The fine folks at Jay is Games have put together a list of the best "casual games" they've played this year and there are tons of lovely gems hidden within.

I've only gotten my mouse pointer dirty with a couple of them, such as Dice Wars/kdice, Line Rider, Nest of Maoi, flOw, and Word Sandwich, but further exploration has turned me on to a ton of free fun.

Go on. Take a few minutes out of your busy work day to bring productivity to its knees. Find your new Flash gaming addiction. Save yourself a couple bucks on the imminent Xbox Live Arcade/PlayStation Store future hit. Haven't you earned fifteen minutes off?

<![CDATA[Hot Flashes: Kdice]]>

You might remember that back in July I wrote about Dice Wars, the Risk-esque Flash game of global domination played out with stacks of dice. The free Flash game consumed my weekend, keeping me away from my blogging duties. Well, it just happened again, as I've just now had the unfortunate opportunity to come across Kdice.

What's Kdice? It's the multiplayer version of Dice Wars that is equally and dangerously addictive. It's a simple, point-and-click strategy game that you can play at work instead of putting together those TPS reports. And, at the risk of getting shitcanned from this job, it's the game I just spent the last 30 minutes with, wiping the floor with the chumps you see eating my virtual dust in that pic.

Mmmmm. That's some tasty global domination.

<![CDATA[Dice Wars, Like Crack In Flash Form]]> This is a call for help. I am addicted to Dice Wars. Let me give you some back story. When I was in college, instead of going to parties and talking to girls, I hung out with a group of fellow nerds on the weekends, ate Kentucky Fried Chicken and played a ridiculous amount of Risk (or NHL 94 on the Genesis). While I don't necessarily miss the people, I miss the fun.

That's probably why I'm like a skin and bone crackhead for Dice Wars. After giving up the nerd hangouts, and the fried chicken, all I have left is some speedy approximation of those nights playing Risk. Dice Wars isn't exactly the same thing, merely a randomized hexagonal map with some simple, but deep, turn based strategy. We don't normally talk about freeware or Flash games, but I'm willing to make an exception to get you kids hooked on a little weekend "fun".
