Interesting you combined "well written" and some of those choice quotes like "the Star Wars"(wtf?)
Also, why does the graphic read NitroZen, as opposed to Nitrogen? Which is it? Honestly, they should just do the smart thing and hire me to take the place of whoever wrote this press release. >.>
"- A well-known movie director from the Star Wars participates in designing concepts for L.A.W!"
Those a some good weasel words. I wonder who it is, I think we can rule out any of the directors by virtue of them all being either dead, retired or George Lucas. If it was George Lucas they'd have bloody well said George Lucas rather than fed us weasel words. What we're looking for is a "well-known" director who worked on one of the Star Wars films in some capacity but hasn't done anything more relevant to this project since... hmm interesting. Frank Oz maybe? No, probably not, I'm drawing a blank here. Any ideas people?
The game sounds quite good too but for an MMO the devil really is in the details so I'm not going to get excited yet.
@The-JJ: The game sounds good? We learned the name of the CEO, an approximate date that they're not sure of, a mystery guest on development, and there are thing called NIKS after a nuclear war.
If that sounds quite good, I have a million 'quite good' ideas for games.
@excel_excel: I'm sure they didn't do this intentionally, but I decided to make a little trip over to IMDB because I couldn't remember if George Lucas was the director of all the Star Wars movies, or if he had outsourced that role for other films...
...anyways, I searched for "Star Wars" and this is what I got:
Star Wars (1977)
aka "The Star Wars" - USA (original script title)"
So, to be fair, the original script title for Star Wars is "The Star Wars".... also, now that I think of it, the original poster that that I have hanging on my game room wall says "The Star Wars" as well, I had forgotten about that......
/I swear I'm not nearly as much of a fanboy as I sound like. I haven't even played with my action figure in YEARS....
@excaliburps: MMOs are a unique business model because you get the software sale in addition to reoccuring monthly subscriptions. There is always a point when software sales will cover the cost of development and then start generating profit. With the MMO model, you're getting 2 sources of revenue from your customers. Which is likely why so many companies are trying to get a piece of the pie, it's a fucking sweet pie.
@Slust: It is a sweet pie. IF it works. Software sales and monthly fees are a very nice combination but the chances of each depend on the other. You can't have a good subscriber base if your installed base is slim.
The only way to make sure of that is to make your game free for a while. Which a lot of companies doing MMOs are doing now.
@bmacsmith: That's what I was thinking. You need to have Activision,EA kind of funding to be able to make it work.
It's one of the main reasons why a lot of MMOs close shop right away. Sure the premise of the game is good but if something went wrong you have to have deep pockets to be able to retrench whatever it is that's not working...
@Combine: Well the MMO genre has seen its fair share of milking. The Matrix tried a stab at it, so did other developers with Mech aspirations and all...
Hmmm...Former Blizzard employee who worked on the Diablo series that's now working on post-apocalyptic multiplayer online game...where have I heard that before?
Oh well, I'm sure this will be their flagship offering and everything will go just super-duper.
My one request? Use Blizzard's evil energies to turn back time to whenever Diablo II: LoD came out so I can go play that game into the ground with my friends again. These days it's just not the same.
yeah a respec option would be great, i'd also like to see Duriel nerfed. I was playing through the game totally fine, hit level 25 up to 30 and tried to fight him as a barbarian?
No freakin chance. Had to use that infinate loop of scroll of town portal to get past the bugger!
@Primebuster: Duriel is definitely an over-powered boss, but the key is to start collecting and building cold resistance items RIGHT AWAY, from the start, and keeping as many as you can to boost yourself into the max resistance you can. Not freezing with Duriel is very, very key.
I'd really like to see the ability to play at higher resolutions. I installed Diablo II a while back to play it again, but the 640x480 (800x600 with the expansion) resolution just didn't cut it, unfortunately.
@harticus33: It works just fine in Vista for me. No patches, nothing, although I do know that sometimes you have to right click on the icon, go to properties, and then to the compatibility tab and have it run in XP compatibility mode.
I didn't have to, but that might solve your issues.
How about the ability to save the game that actually saves the game.
I stopped playing DII simply because I became tired of saving my game at 2am only to find out the next day that the character was saved, but the state of the world was reset and that level I spent all night clearing is now full again.

"L.A.W (Living After War), MMORPG for adults on life in 2350 after a nuclear war!"
"stylish action MMORPG for adults on life in 2340 after a nuclear war."
If they pay this much attention to detail, 15 minutes in we will have absolutely no idea of the setting at all.
