I have no problem with this game going to the Wii as well as the PS3. It's just that making it exclusive to the Wii would really piss me off, considering all entries have been on Sony platforms (save SB2:Heroes, which was on the Wii as well as the PS2).
In all honesty, I just wanted it to be on a region-free platform, I just know that Capcom couldn't care less about appealing to importers.
- due out in 2010 in Japan
- set in the Battle of Sekigahara
- Producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi said the decision to go with this battle was made early on
- new generals
- most real-time cut scenes for the series
- cut-scenes are based off of storyboards that were done by an anime company
- set more than 3 skills for each character
- personal traits of characters will come into play more
- expect an extremely high quality Wii game, compared to most other Wii titles, says Capcom
- 60% complete
Great. It won't be coming to the US, so I'll be importing it. Boosh. Glad to hear Capcom had the interests of people who like to legally import games in mind with this.
Capcom i know i have said some bad things about you before for releasing Devil Kings 2 and Sengoku Basara x in japan only and for not releasing MH 3 for PS3 as well.
Although it won't be release over here i want you to know that
I FREAKING LOVE YOU FOR MAKING IT FOR THE PS3 AS WELL >:3

@blue_monkey: Monster Hunter Freedom Unite 3 is coming for the PSP sometime in the near future and will likely feature some of the improvements that MH3 brought.
From what I hear though, MH3 isn't all that great in comparision to Monster Hunter Freedom Unite.
Great to hear that that Capcom is gonna focus on reusing things from the previous games instead of advancing it.
To think they would handle Sengoku Basara just like Koei handles Samurai Warriors.
They are being awkwardly similar.
@the7k: For crying out loud. Would the Wii Whiners please sit the rest of this generation out and let the rest of us that enjoy good games regardless of platform get on with our lives?
@Lezard: If the Wii can actually do this series justice, I'll take it all back.
I say this knowing that I won't have to take it all back. Sengoku Basara 2 was one of the most visually impressive and chaotic titles of last gen. Similarly, Sengoku Basara 3 will be one of the most visual impressive and chaotic titles of last gen.
@gojikan: In a game like Sengoku Basara, yeah, it is.
Imagine if Final Fantasy XIII looked like Final Fantasy XII. In a game as deep and complex (sarcasm) as Sengoku Basara, graphics are pretty much the only thing it can improve upon.
I expected to see some of the most incredible looking wooden/steel AT-AT Imperial Walkers ever in this game. Now, I know it's going to look exactly like the game I've already played over and over again.
@gojikan: Are you an idiot or are you just unfamiliar with the game?
Whenever Koei port their last-gen games to current gen it means quite an improvement in the other areas that are not just graphics.
To make things simple.
These kinds of games are all about toy amongst thousands of enemies. PS3 and 360 actually let more people onto your screen because of larger draw-distance.
I agree with Gotta.
I have been reading Kotaku for a long time, and you act like the guy who likes RPGs and all these japanese games, but suddenly, when the games are announced for the DS and Wii, they are bad according to you. It happened with MH3, it happened with DQ 9 and 10, it happened with the new Shin Megami Tensei game, and is happening now again.
Stop with the hating and become a real gamer.
@ashdown: There's something about most of those games though. They weren't just 'Good Games'. They were 'Good Games for the Wii.' (Except for MadWorld, which is just mediocre regardless of the console.)
A game should transcend whatever console it is on.
When someone asks you about The Conduit, you shouldn't have to say "Yeah, it's a pretty good shooter considering its on the Wii." You should just have to say "Yeah, it's a pretty good shooter." - except you can't. The 360 and PS3 have much, MUCH better shooters. Games like Bioshock, Killzone 2, Halo 3, Call of Duty 4, Resistance, and many many more. Why should I choose No More Heroes when I can get Ninja Gaiden II, Devil May Cry 4, Uncharted, Prince of Persia, Grand Theft Auto IV and many other action-adventure games on rival platforms? Why should I choose Tatsunoko vs Capcom when I can choose Street Fighter IV, BlazBlue, King of Fighters XII, Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe, and all the many fighting games available on XBLA/PSN?
Why should I choose one when I can have several, and many times those several transcend the quality of the one?
Yes, the Wii has great games. I think no one can really argue that with a straight face. Does the Wii have enough good games? Are those good games even good enough? I enjoyed Tatsunoko vs Capcom, but I sure as shit ain't gonna trade Tatsunoko vs Capcom for BlazBlue. That's the problem.
@the7k: Comparing No More Heroes to any of those games just shows a clear lack of understanding of what the game is on your part. Why is it that every game MUST have something to be compared to? Do you sit there and go, "OH MAN THIS GAME IS NOT AS GOOD AS GAME B. POINTS OFF. I CAN'T ENJOY THIS."
As for Tatsunoko vs BlazBlue, again, you're showing a lack of understanding. They're both very good, but they're both for completely different audiences within that genre.
Here's a question for you: Why should you compare any game to any other except for a need to reassure yourself that you backed what you believe to be the right horse? There's no point to sitting there comparing anything. Why should I play any new Castlevania when Symphony of the Night was already made? Why should I play any 3D fighting game other than Virtua Fighter 5? Why? Because the games stand on their own and need to be understood on their own.
The only problem is you. You're holding yourself back at every turn.
@Ueziel: I somehow get the feeling that most of the people who were interested in Tatsunoko vs Capcom were also the same people who were interested in BlazBlue, Marvel vs Capcom 2, and all the other 'Manic Fighters' out there.
People need to be able to compare similar things. Imagine if when someone asked you about Ninja Gaiden, you tried to break down everything that it was. Wouldn't it be so much easier to just say "It's a lot like Devil May Cry"?
People need to be able to classify and categorize things. When money gets involved, people are going to need to know if one game is worth the price of admission over another. No one wants to spend a load of money on something that is similar to something they've already played but not as good.
Tatsunoko vs Capcom was fun. I'm just glad I wasn't the one who imported it, and I'm glad I got to play it before I re-bought another Wii. If I had bought a Wii just for that one game (which is exactly what it would have come down to, considering I've already played the hell out of Metroid Prime 3 and Fire Emblem), I'd have felt mighty damn ripped.
@the7k: Not really because it's not like Devil May Cry at all. The games play out almost entirely differently and have completely different feelings in terms of characters and tone.
When someone asks me what a game is like, I explain what the game is like, even if it takes a bit.
Also, the US version of Tatsunoko is looking to be quite a bit better than the JP version. On top of new characters and online, we're getting a much more polished game in general.
@Archaotic: Just stop hating the Wii damnit.
I know from most of your post you generally hate the Wii and prefer the PS3, I mean, preferences are fine, but if the Wii is getting all this shit that your interested in, just curb your hate a little and give it a chance.
I guarantee you that technology has advanced with the Wii, and so can games from the hardware present. Also I guarantee that if you look past inferior graphics, you can get some enjoyable experiences.
I know from remember way more comments from you then I should how you feel a lot on this subject, but I'm just saying man, stuff on the Wii can be good too, and being on a PS3 doesn't mean the game would automatically be the greatest shit ever.
Also I'm not a stalker, my memory is just abnormally good at remembering random things.
@D Mitsuki : Gotta have guts kid!: I see no point in playing a game like this on the Wii. The PS2 is dead. I don't want to play games that look, play, and feel like PS2 games anymore unless they're on a handheld.
When a third party develops a game like this on the Wii, it's because they're too cheap or too lazy to make it on the HD consoles. I own my Wii for Nintendo games, not lazy third party games created because Japanese developers are too busy wasting their main development funds on "Western-focused" shit.
And honestly, is it seriously too much to ask for a Dynasty Warriors-type game with ONLINE co-op? Koei's too lazy to do it, so I was hoping Capcom would step up to the plate. I was wrong.
@Archaotic:
I agree with Gotta.

Also, by your logic, the Wii should not have any third party games, just Nintendo games, and that proves that you are very inmmature and/or stupid.
@gantou: WotS 3 is a start, but it's not going to make up for this generation's lack of a real HD Samurai Warriors, Yakuza, or Sengoku Basara.
@Fernando Paramo: My dislike of Dragon Quest is because I don't like Dragon Quest. It has absolutely nothing to do with what platform it's on, I haven't liked those games since the SNES era.
I don't think the Wii doesn't deserve third party games, but I honestly and truly prefer playing games on the other consoles because the Wii's control scheme and I do not get along. If the Wii was getting VERSIONS of games? Great. But I just don't like to see it get third party games at the expense of what could've been an excellent HD entry. Especially for a game like this, where the Wii adds NOTHING to the equation except for repetitive arm strain.
Don't worry, when Natal and the Sonymotes come out, I'll be saying the same damn things about those. I don't like motion control, and I never will.
@Archaotic: Dude, really, just listen to what you just posted. (or read, or whatever)
If a company wants to make a Wii game, they are lazy. That logic just is saying nobody should make Wii games sans Nintendo.
I can think of some games I would like to make this second, and some of them could use the Wiimote and nunchuck. With Wii motion plus added in, I would really like to develop for it.
The PS2 isn't dead, it still sells and so do it's games. That's because those games do one thing more then Wii, 360, and PS3 combine. They make you have fun.
There are no games like God Hand for the PS3, or Okami, or SotC (although soon their may be), or Killer 7, or any of those things. When development cost that much their also never will be. With the fall of low development cost also comes the fall of fun games outside the scope of big budget games like Gears of War. Gears of War is fine, but I love God Hand SOOO much more.
Really, you may be fine in a world were everything is super expensive, probably won't pay off, and lead to only bankruptcy and less and less people taking chances or venturing outside the "it sells" box, but I'm not. And when you have a current gen, low development cost unique platform, you get games that would otherwise be impossible, and they are good.
Every console has it's place, the Wii can do tripple AAA all across the board, including graphics, but it can also do cheap but fun experiences, if you can't see the sheer amount of good in that, then you need to stop everything your doing right now, and go play God Hand, Killer 7, and Gitaroo Man.
If after playing all those you can still say only expensive super pretty games should exist, then maybe you have just lost that gamers heart that was playing ugly NES games back in the day.

@D Mitsuki : Gotta have guts kid!: I'm not saying the Wii has no games worth playing. I LOVE No More Heroes. I love Mario Galaxy, and I love Brawl.
But in this specific case, it all comes down to the fact that the Wii offers NOTHING for these kinds of games (DW, SW, and the like). It can't do more sophisticated AI, it can't do more complex level design, and it can't do better animation. All it can do is the PS2, but with slightly better textures. It's not like the controls are well-suited to the Wiimote, considering how complex and mashy the DW and Basara games are. Yeah, you could use the Classic Controller, but if that's the case, it's LITERALLY just a PS2 game.
If I wanted to play an upscaled PS2 Warriors game, I would play the 360 port of Warriors Orochi, which is exactly that. I don't want that. I want those games to EVOLVE. To grow more complex. To actually become SLIGHTLY accurate war simulators, with complex enemy movement and action instead of swarms of cardboard dolls that die in one hit without so much as attempting to defend themselves.
Yeah, it's insane wishful thinking considering the fact that Koei IS a cheap company, and they make most of their money off of being a cheap company, but I'm allowed to dream, damn it. :[
@Archaotic: The idea that you think DW or Basara would ever "evolve" into some huge complex war game is kind of ridiculous, man. It's missing the point of the games and why they're made in the first place.
And to say that the controls "aren't well-suited for the Wiimote" is pretty dumb too. It has plenty of buttons for what those games have. If you can't make a game work with 6 buttons or less, your game isn't worth playing.

@Ueziel: I'm fully aware it's wishful thinking. It doesn't change the fact that I prefer to play games, especially extremely complex games like Sengoku Basara (it's based on the DMC engine) on a more traditional controller. I'm not insane for just preferring the gameplay, visuals, and controls on the other two systems over the Wii.
I don't hate the Wii, dude, you know that. You know I want Galaxy 2 as much as anyone else. But when it comes to third party games, especially ones that could easily be done on another console, it's just not the system for me.
@D Mitsuki : Gotta have guts kid!: I still think there are a myriad of ways that the PS3 and 360 COULD benefit the Warriors series, if Koei only had the drive and budget to make it happen. More complex level design, WORKABLE AI (it doesn't need to be super-skilled, just actual AI instead of what it has now), better animation, maybe even some physics. All of that would improve it better than the direction the series is taking now, which is to not change at all.
@D Mitsuki : Gotta have guts kid!: I think it is safe to say that all of us who wanted a new Sengoku Basara game wanted a game that would truly be awe-inspiring. Something that, just like Sengoku Basara 2, was simply a site to behold in its time.
See, the thing is, as much as I love Sengoku Basara, it can only go up. The gameplay isn't super complex, it's just a hack n slash. Thus, all we can really hope for are graphics that would make Michael Bay weep like a baby.
Can the Wii pull it off? Thus far, I haven't seen it.
It would also help if Sengoku Basara came to a system that, ya know - WAS REGION-FREE! That's my main issue here.
But hey, whatever. I'm just a grumpy old man. To me, this is just Capcom saying "Yeah, we're going to make a new game, but we just don't feel like making any new, visually impressive assets - we'll just use all the old ones!"
@Lezard: Maybe I'm just sick and tired of seeing games on ALL platforms being dumbed down, simplified, and having corners cut in the name of higher profitability without any of that benefit being passed down onto the consumer.
If you don't agree with me, that's fine, but I am just as allowed to feel that way as you are to disagree.
@Archaotic: OBJECTION!
You sir have just contradicted your previous evidence.
TAKE THAT!
It clearly states in the court record that you said
"Maybe I"m just sick and tired of seeing games on ALL platforms being dumbed down, simplified, and having corners cut in the name of higher profitability without any of the benefit being passed down onto the consumer."
This directly contradicts your next statement that "The HD consoles are advance enough over the last generation that I don't mind that."
What this would mean is that you in fact do not care if something is dumbed down for profitability as long as it is convenient to you personally. This makes you a hypocrite!
Take the scenario that you were a PS2 user, and the PS3 was available, but PS1 games were still being made. The same statement you last made could then apply, but it goes against the first statement you made, meaning that you in fact simply just want everything made on the two consoles you personally prefer, and do not give two shits about "advance technology."
Yeah I saw some Phoenix Wright on the "were suing Nintendo/Sony" thing, so I got in the mood...
@Archaotic: If companies kept putting out PS2 games of the quality of Persona 4, I'd have no problem playing PS2 games for as long as they keep making them.
Seriously, there's a part of me that hopes Atlus announces either Persona 5 or Shin Megami Tensei IV as a Wii exclusive just so I can watch your head explode.
@Archaotic: You are arguing with hardcore Nintendo fans. Just stop doing it now, it's not worth it. It never is. They always pull out the "You're not a real gamer!" line if the Wii & DS aren't your favorite systems & you can never win an argument with one of them.
I own all 3 of this generations' game systems and i'm not afraid to say that motion control is pretty much s*** in my opinion. I don't find it to be "a whole new experience" & I certainly don't feel it makes games any more fun to play than they already were.
So as a fan of this series, I gotta say i'm also a bit dissapointed by the fact that it's not making the transition into HD (PS3 or 360 would have worked for me). But as a fan of the series, I also have to sadly admit I'll probably buy this game day 1 as it has minimal motion control stuff.
@Archaotic:
AI, level design, and animation... while more horsepower helps in powering that, that really isn't dependent on the hardware, but the humans who are behind the game development.
I mean, seriously... has there been ANY game this generation that truly was an advancement in AI, level design, or animation? None that I've seen. Just prettier graphics. Not that it's a bad thing, either, but it doesn't make for a better game.
Oh, better online structures, too... but I don't see why the current XBL and PSN couldn't be done on Xbox and PS2.

And to say that the controls "aren't well-suited for the Wiimote" is pretty dumb too. It has plenty of buttons for what those games have. If you can't make a game work with 6 buttons or less, your game isn't worth playing.

They will never be realistic, do you know what happens when one man fights 3 men, let alone 5000?
The AI is dumb FOR YOUR OWN GOOD as well, once you have 5000 intelligent enemies coming for you, your going to need a lot more then the square button.
As long as the generals exist in the game it wont become anything like a war simulator. Lui Bui wouldn't be Lui Bui that way, anyway.

If you don't agree with me, that's fine, but I am just as allowed to feel that way as you are to disagree.

I just don't want to play PS2 games anymore.

Seriously, there's a part of me that hopes Atlus announces either Persona 5 or Shin Megami Tensei IV as a Wii exclusive just so I can watch your head explode.
