The news came today during a keynote speech from Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada at the Montreal Games Summit, where he spoke about how the company is addressing global markets, Develop reports. The purchase of Eidos is apparently playing a big part in the Square Enix's plans, with the new title marking the first time separate businesses in the company's empire would be actively collaborating.

The new title "would be the first collaboration between Square Enix and Montreal," said Wada. "We would like to be able to create a new title that is made by the group as one."

Unfortunately there is little information available about this new title, and with how quiet Eidos Montreal has been about their other two high-profile titles, I doubt we'll be seeing leaks any time soon.

<![CDATA[Video Games Are The Forefront Of Futuristic City Design]]> Shanghai in the year 2027 glimmers with life, setting the Huangpu river ablaze with reflections, in this image from Eidos' long-awaited game Deus Ex 3. Are video games the cutting edge of imagining future cities?

Deus Ex 3 is a prequel to the other two Deus Ex games. In it, you're Adam Jensen, a private security officer working at a company that develops biomechanical augmentations for the human body, just one stepping stone towards the nanotech augmentations of the other games. Jensen witnesses an attack on his company, and has to investigate. Besides Shanghai, the game will take you to future versions of Detroit, Montreal and two other cities.

Here are some more bitchin images:

<![CDATA[Fuel Your Preconceptions With This Deus Ex 3 Concept Art]]> Thanks to the Viking warriors at Gamereactor, we have our first good look at how Deus Ex 3 is shaping up. Not the game itself, mind you, it's far too early for that kind of business, but this concept art should at least give you an idea of the tone Eidos Montreal are shooting for. First thing we noticed? There's sunshine! Second thing? Somebody's been watching a lot of Blade Runner.

A sniff of plot details accompanied the art. Seems you'll take the role of a Mr. Adam Jensen, who works for Sarif, a biotech company. Jensen goes to work one day, Sarif gets stormed by bad men, everyone is killed except...yes, Adam Jensen. The rest of the game sees you on a quest to find out what happened/avenge the deaths of your white-coated colleagues.

<![CDATA[Deus Ex 3 Guy Says Deus Ex 1 Was "Kinda Slow"]]> Deus Ex 1 was a masterpiece. Deus Ex 2 deviated from Deus Ex 1's formula, and failed as a result. So what's Deus Ex 3 going to be like? Well it sounds like it's going to be faster, for one, with lead game designer Jean-Francois Dugas telling Edge the first Deus Ex was "kinda slow".

There weren’t enough exciting, memorable moments. It was aimed more towards a simulation rather than a game experience.

Before you reach for the straw doll and large, rusty pins, know he's talking about the game's pace, not necessarily its complexity, as Dugas also says that aside from the PC, other formats for the game are yet to be decided, as "console-isation isn’t about dumbing down features. If we’re to go console we will want to keep the complexity alive".

<![CDATA[More Deus Ex 3 Details Emerge]]> Well, looks like PC Zone was saving up its 200th issue for Deus Ex. It's the cover story in the latest edition, which has already landed in subscribers' mailboxes and hits newsstands on Oct. 9. The writeup also features the first screenshots of the game, which CVG scanned and uploaded (above).

"Deus Ex 3's vision of the future sees holographic screens flicker atop ferries moving back and forth in front of the Shanghai skyline, now split into two layers with the rich on the top and the poor in perpetual twilight below," says PC Zone.

The preview says Eidos Montreal promised a "powerful, layered" plot for the game, a prequel set in 2027. Eidos also said it's mindful of reaction to the second game in the series and promises that its mistakes won't be repeated. If you're not a subscriber, CVG has written up a pretty good digest of its high points.

<![CDATA[PC Zone To Expose Deus Ex 3 Conspiracy?]]> Things have been a bit quiet on the Deus Ex 3 front, but the news that the original game was to be made available for free from Gametap seemed to suggest that something was coming down the pipe.

If this blurry, phonecam-quality picture is the real thing, UK games mag PC Zone will be lilfting the lid on the game in its 200th issue, out later this month.

The photo popped up on the Gaming Age (NeoGAF) forums and it certainly looks like the right typeface. The issue is on sale on October 9th, so there is plenty of time for the whole story to leak out before you actually have to buy the thing.

<![CDATA[Eidos Montréal Working On Thief 4]]> Eidos Montréal's website clearly states that the studio's first two projects will involve reviving successful franchises. The team is already working on the highly anticipated Deus Ex 3, and now a recruitment post on their website hints at their next AAA title.

Eidos-Montréal is proud to announce the recruitment for our 2nd "AAA" project... A hint! The title begins with the letter " T "
Both Thief and Deus Ex were Ion Storm creations, and with studio head Stephane D'Astous only recently removing the T from the Thief logo from his Facebook profile, things look good for a sneaky sequel to one of the best stealth-action franchises ever. Eurogamer got in touch with Eidos and was given a "no comment" on the whole situation, but in light of the circumstances I'd say Thief 4 is a pretty safe bet. Yum.

<![CDATA[Spector Only Has Three to Five Games Left In Him]]> deusex-top.jpg

Sounds like famed game developer Warren Spector is winding down. In a recent interview with Eurogamer he bemoaned the amount of energy it takes to make games these days and said he probably only has three to five left in him before he shuffles off this mortal coil.

"Game development requires an intense amount of energy," Spector, who is 52 years old, told Eurogamer in an interview published today. "It requires a level of focus and dedication and belief and confidence and time. What it means, in an ideal world, I may work on five more games in my entire life. More likely probably three given how long they take."

Spector went on to cast doubts on Deus Ex 3, saying that he hasn't yet spoken to Eidos Montreal about the game and that he's concerned about how it's going to turn out because it's a "delicate" game style.

Sounds like someone gets grumpy during the holidays.

<![CDATA[Deus Ex 3 Rifles Through Lara Croft's Things]]> An interview with Stephane D'Astous of the newly opened Eidos Montreal story reveals that Deus Ex 3 is being built on the foundation of the latest Tomb Raider games. The studio is using the Crystal Dynamics Tomb Raider engine that was so handy in transforming Lara Croft's series into something people wouldn't be embarrassed to play as the foundation for the third installment of the popular series. The reasoning?

We chose the Crystal engine because we plan to help develop this engine more and then share it back with the rest of the company, the other Eidos studios. Having that technology from the start gives us a great advantage and foundation for our coders - there are no doubts about the approach, and we have few uncertainties.
Plus it also saves a hell of a lot of time trying to develop an engine from the ground up, and that's good because I've wanted Deus Ex 3 since Deus Ex 2 came out. Snap to it, developer boy!

<![CDATA[Deus Ex 3 Teaser]]>

Feature the interesting tagline "Who we are is a stepping stone to who we can become", this Deus Ex 3 teaser doesn't really give us much of a sense of what the game will be about, other than it will be a Deus Ex sequel... and I suppose that's all we need to know.

<![CDATA[Eidos Montreal Confirms Deus Ex 3]]> Eidos has thrown wide the doors to its new Montreal, Québec development studio, and despite their promise to deliver AAA titles, their first game has absolutely nothing to do with roadside service contracts. Instead they has announced that they are hard at work on Deus Ex 3, the next title in the critically acclaimed FPS / RPG hybrid, rumored since May. Gamasutra spoke to Eidos Montreal GM Stéphane D'Astous, who once again lied about AAA titles.

"We're only working on AAA, major titles. We're going to be developing only major AAA games, using only next-gen technology."
Deus Ex 3 is excellent news and all, but until I get a game about sitting is a musty office fielding emergency road service calls, there is no AAA game.

<![CDATA[Joust 3D Cancelled, And Other "Secrets"]]> Ahh, Sufer Girl. We don't know who you are, but we're really hoping you aren't a guy and that these mental images crossing you with Cameron Diaz (from back when she was hot) with a future, desperate, heroin-strung version of Scarlett Johansson aren't for naught. Now you tell us that Midway had planned to make 3D versions of all their classic games in the early 2000's, and that this Joust screen is proof of the project's cancellation. Then you listed 17 other games, many confirmed since by Google searches, that existed, were canceled and no one knew the wiser...until you swam to shore.
