They got 14 points before Bill crashed the bus. Needless to say, when I saw it happen my heart was broken. Desertbus was really fun to watch when I happened to have time, with those guys and gals all goofing around in the room and all. I wish I could have donated, but maybe next year, when I will probably have a job.
@dracosummoner: Don't think so, but a lot of other webcomic artists heavily support Childs play, whether it be by just putting in a plug on there news page or by having a merch sale and putting all the proceeds towards Childs Play.
I know this is frowned upon here. But it's a slow news week for you guys isn't it?.You guy's might as well, kill someone and throw a copy of GTA4 on their corpse.Tip the cops of about a possible murder.Get the scoop on video game violence leads to murder. And post it up here so I can read about it.
Shit, it's Sunday, I have nothing to do.Even fapping feel's weird on sundays.
@Sam Fister: wtf? Raising over $100,000 for Child's Play IS an important post -- and 100% gaming related. This is something called a "blog" ... the editors post what is interesting to them in order to share it with more people.
@jayntampa: if by "hard news" you mean the very same news being recycled by the hour, then yes... :P I <3 cnn though
@Sam Fister: I'm with Jayntampa here. "News" doesn't have to equal something tragic or specifically console related. This affects us all as gamers, and it's for a hell of a good cause.
Even jokingly suggesting they kill someone and throw a copy of GTA4 on their corpse just makes you look like an insensitive dickwad.
@Owen Good: Thanks for the DBfH post. A correction, though, LoadingReadyRun is in Victoria B.C., not Vancouver. And Victoria is not a suburb of Van either, given there's water between the two. :-)
@Nimlygos: Oh...I checked back a ton of pages, and the FAQ, and figured if it wasn't there it must not be anywhere. Why the heck wouldn't it be in the FAQ? :|
@WhiteMÃ¥ge: I was actually reading an article on this in this months Game Informeror. I am not sure if Penn and Teller really came up with it, but the point of the game is to simulate a real life bus driver driving from Phoenix to Las Vegas with no stops on a 8-hour bus ride. Nothing interesting is supposed to happen. It may be on a game title Smoke and Mirrors on the Sega Cd. (At work so not much time to look it up)
Actually, they managed 14 points this year, until Bill (one of the drivers) crashed it, ironically, while trying to sing the song "Don't Stop me Now".
Their previous record was 6 points from year one.
-edit-
In fact, there is a video of his crash on youtube [www.youtube.com]
@Rachel Fogg: Really, I prefer the much slower paced game of "Halflife:Uranium 232". It only takes 68.9 years for the first decay, its the second one that's a killer.
I thought it was actually driving a REAL desert bus from Tucson to the end of the country, with exploding fuselage of the refuel vehicle and all!
Turns out though it was just an actual playthrough of a video game. Which took me 4 clicks on the WebCam and a YouTube search of "Desert Bus" to figure out....
After watching almost a season of the show, I came to the realization that Penn and Teller were ridiculously hypocritical. For instance, they spend time in one show arguing how the use of statistics and numbers to prove a point is BS, but they use statistics and numbers to prove their points. They also show that anyone can bend the truth to suit their argument, something they do quite often.
Basically, the show is an attempt to win over the audience through swearing and nudity, while their arguments aren't exactly sound and the people they attack are generally so stupid and worthless to begin with, attacking them becomes redundant.
Would still like to see Penn chew out Jack Thompson, though.
@CowLion: They pointed out that they have an agenda in an a couple episodes. They talked about how they are biased specifically. I mean how can you not be. I would love to know where you saw them say statistic are bullshit. I mean what statistics were they talking about? Some random poll done by a religious group or a variety of polls done by respectable groups. I mean sure believing everything authority figures tells us is a little risky, but we have to do it. If we don't we couldn't trust anyone and nothing would get done. I would say though the majority of the stuff they dubunk is completely right. I have disagreed with a couple (gun control), but I still liked the reason why they wanted less gun control.
@CowLion: While they do some questionable editing at times for the sake of good television, Penn and Teller have always been up front about their bias. All they're trying to do is make you think differently I'm guessing they attacked something that was a little too close to home and then decided you didn't like it anymore? That was it wasn't it?
@Cartman86: That is what's great about them... They don't fake objectivity... They're just honest about being biased, and if more "news" organizations would do the same, the world would be a better place... Really...
