@ryan2107: Yes, one of the most profitable companies in the WORLD is a sinking ship. Profits declined this year, but making profits in this economy, heck even in a good economy BARELY makes Nintendo a sinking ship.
By your logic no one should of been working at Microsoft or Sony's game divisions because they weren't making any money until this year.
Sad. She was the only bright spot on Nintendo's team. Cammie Dunaway and Reggie Fils-aime are some of the most annoying people in the games industry. Not as evil as Kotick but annoying none the less.
@Adhominem: Yeah, you have the straight-up asshats like Kotick, then you have the "Ohmigod will you just SHUT. UP." people like Cammie and Reggie...
It may be irrational, but I can't stand either of those two. MS's Greenberg is another "winner".
Denise seemed the most straight-talking of the whole bunch - managing to mostly avoid corporate claptrap and with a delightful sense of humour capable of ticking off nerd journalists without appearing evasive, rude or otherwise an asshat.
Drat. I liked her. Her responses on IGNs "Nintendo Minute" were more direct than one would normally expect from the normally reserved company and its executives.
"and we look forward to continuing to deliver great Nintendo experiences to people of all ages as we head into this holiday season".
Cammy Dunaway is now an insensitive jerk.
Any time an executive staff member leaves a company, there is a real danger of the stock price taking a hit because analysts and investors tend to freak out about that kind of stuff ("Why did she leave? Is she losing confidence in the business? Should I sell?"). So you will ALWAYS see a company rep say something to the effect of "we are still shipping products, everything is great, nothing's changing, business is still growing, etc.". They have to say that to reassure Wall Street that everything is still ok.
Yes, it's spin, but it's the kind of spin that can save a company millions of dollars.
@Knoxximus ver. 5.66: If Kotaku had an editor, this press release could have looked like this...
Nintendo of America's executive vice president of Sales & Marketing, Cammie "Smile Machine" Dunaway has made a personal decision to spend more time with her family. We wish her all the best in this next chapter of her life." <<<
Too bad such a fantasy editor doesn't exist in real life. Just imagine what they could do with Tim Rogers' verbal diarrhea. ;-p
This Denise Kaigler gal is a true master at avoiding spilling the beans. If I had a game company, I would contract her immediately and she would be the very first person to know the most secret of all my secret projects. She's just a fortress for that, unnassailable. And what's more, she manages to do that without being a arrogant prick.
@nico1606: She wasn't be shady. Nintendo of America folks just won't give out those kinds of facts. She and the rest of the people working the event were there to express the idea that the game is fun and coming out soon. Which doesn't mean I'm not going to ask, of course.
