Speaking to Microsoft Games Studios folk at E3 this week, we heard nothing but glowing reception to the game. Universal acclaim we did not expect, so I was personally curious about the Kotaku readership's opinion of the demo.

Looks like some of you have already weighed in with your opinion in the comments of the original post, but for those who've spent a bit more time with part one of the planned epic adventure, tell us (dammit) what you think of the Too Human demo.

<![CDATA[ MadWorld - Black, White, And Red All Over ]]> After wowing the assembled press during the demo of Devil May Cry challenger Bayonetta, the folks at PlatinumGames pulled out a demo of another of their upcoming titles, MadWorld. MadWorld places you in the role of Jack, a brutal killer with a chainsaw for an arm. Varrigan city has been taken over by a mysterious organization known as "The Organizers", who are pitting the city's citizens against a series of mysterious foes in a deadly TV show called Death Watch. Jack must tear his way through hordes of enemies, killing them in creative and humorous ways, earning points to unlock powerups and mini-games as he progresses. Designer Shigenori Nishikawa's plan is to make the violence so over the top that it's humorous, and from what I saw he seems to be succeeding, to a point.

Over the top brutality is key in MadWorld, with the splashes of blood as you impale your foes on signs, slam them into spiked walls, or toss them against the side of a speeding subway car is the only real color in the game. Other fatalities included using two knives to lift an enemy over your head, tearing him in two, and tossing a guy into a dumpster which slams shut, cutting him in half.

All of this brutality took place over the course of 10 minutes as a pair of television commentators provided a humorous play by play of the action, judging your violence and arguing over when exactly one of your victims died. I'm thinking that most of the humor of the game will spring from the two disembodied voices, as without them the demo I saw would have been simple senseless killing.

Once Jack killed enough people an elevator opened up, leading to the level boss. As our hero moved forward to engage a giant creature with a spiked ball, the demo ended. Poo.

MadWorld worries me a bit. While the stylized black and white graphics looked spectacular and make for some excellent screenshots, I'm not sure how well it will hold up over the long run. I really liked the movie Sin City the first time I saw it, but it just didn't hold up over subsequent viewings. On top of the graphical issue, the killings were pretty repetitive, even in the short demo we saw. Three guys slammed into a spiked wall, two guys with street signs through their skulls...amazing the first time you see it, sure, but the shock quickly faded, leaving "okay, what else?" sort of feeling.

Is MadWorld going to be a revolution in over-the-top violence, or a case of more style, not enough substance? What am I, Dr. FutureMan?

<![CDATA[ Lego Indiana Jones Demo On Xbox Live ]]> Despite my excitement over the whole melding Lego with Indiana Jones business, I've somehow managed to hold off picking up Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures. I've had the game in my hands several times for several systems, but for some reason I've always balked before getting to the register. Not even Crecente's review could help me decide. Now I get a chance to find out if I was right or wrong to hold off as a demo for the game hits Xbox Live. Presumably the same demo that was released for the PC in early May, the Xbox version weighs in at 619MB, so be sure to measure that sack of sand correctly before swapping it out.

<![CDATA[ Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm Gameplay, Demo In July ]]>
GameSpot's latest episode of their weekly On The Spot show has Namco Bandai marketing manager In Joon Hwang showing off the PlayStation 3 exclusive Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm in action. The game basically takes the fighting from the previous Ultimate Ninja titles and moves it into a 3D arena. The game features 25 characters (*sigh*) along with support character who drop in to help out.

It looks great, but how does it play? We'll know soon enough, as a playable demo will be coming out around E3 in July, initially available exclusively to Qore subscribers and then released to the unwashed masses a couple weeks later.

Update: Good old YouTube. Thanks Kumuasata!

<![CDATA[ Tales Of Vesperia Demo Hits Asia ]]> Here's some good news, bad news, and then good news again! The first good news is that Namco Bandai's Xbox 360 exclusive Tales of Vesperia now has a demo up on Xbox Live. The bad news? Currently the demo is only available in India and Asia...but do not fret! There is no fretting! Users in other regions who just so happen to have a Japanese Silver account set up are more than welcome to download the demo and fool around with the title. The icing on this Oreo good-bad-good cake? The demo only weighs in at 278 MB, and it runs in good old English, so no battling with the squigglies. Sweet!

<![CDATA[ NCAA Football 09 Demo Live ]]> Get a taste of this year's football action a bit early with EA's NCAA Football 09 demo, now available for the Xbox 360. New features in the latest version include the new, more-realistic Break Away Animation Engine promising more control and fluidity on the field, a new college-specific tackling engine, more realistic sidelines, and - best of all - user-influenced mascots after touchdowns. Joy!

The demo weighs in at 1.44 GB, one meaty chunk of collegiate football action to tryout before the full game hits next month.

<![CDATA[ Devil May Cry 4 Demo Now Available On PC ]]> Yup, Capcom have released a demo for Devil May Cry 4 on the PC. It's around 800MB, gives you the option of going through a ten-minute level or taking on a boss, and should give you around ten minutes of good times. They're saying it runs a little faster on PC, which I can kind of see, but I can definitely see that it looks a lot cleaner. Even if you've already played it on 360 or PS3, it's worth a look, if only to let Capcom know that, yes, we appreciate the fact they're still porting games like this to the PC.

<![CDATA[ Bad Company And Civ Revolution Demos Hit Xbox Live ]]> The promised demo of Battlefield : Bad Company is now live on Xbox Live, alongside a demo of Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution, giving gamers a lovely choice between creating and destroying. The Bad Company demo comes in both single and multiplayer flavors, with the single player giving you a taste of story-driven sandbox gameplay, while the multiplayer portion lets the more competitive among us battle it out in the objective based Gold Rush mode of the game.

The Civilization Revolution demo also contains both multiplayer and single player gameplay, and while I am no expert I am going to go out on a limb and say there is some civilization building going on.

Both demos weigh in on the hefty side, with Battlefield at 1.5 GB and Civ at a slightly more modest 1.25 GB. Enjoy!

<![CDATA[ Ninja Gaiden II Demo Is Mostly Up In Europe ]]> Rejoice! The Ninja Gaiden II demo that came out last week in Japan is now unleashed on the moderately Western world! It's Europe's turn today, with the demo now available everywhere Europeans live in large numbers with the exception of Germany, who must have been naughty. I can only imagine that Microsoft's Larry Hyrb typed out this post on his blog, hit publish with a stick, and then dived for cover for fear of the backlash of angry U.S. and Canadian fans, desperate to get their hands on what seems to be the last Ninja Gaiden game Itagaki will ever create, now that he's angrily stormed out of Tecmo.

Hopefully the demo will be available to the rest of us by the end of the week as promised, though with the game being shipped to stores today I doubt it really matters all that much anyway.

Said demo is due to be released throughout all regions, but as of right now there is no ETA on when that's going to happen.

And for all of you heading to your Xbox 360 to log in to your Japanese account, make sure you upgraded that baby to Gold first...Silver users will have to wait a few days before they can start the download...as I just discovered minutes ago. Stupid Silver account, making me look bad.

We'll let you know as soon as this becomes available to the western world.

I've been playing it all day. It's great. Notsomuch for the gameplay, which is standard stuff, but definitely for the charm. If you're not the type to trust my recommendation, however, (though really, you should, I'm a nice guy) anyone with a PC (Linux included) or Mac can grab a demo of the first episode, take it for a spin, see how it feels. <![CDATA[ Bad Company Demo Coming June 5th ]]> Those of you who weren't fortunate enough to get into the closed beta test of EA DICE's slightly controversial Battlefield: Bad Company will get their chance to step into the boots of B Company in early June when a combination single / multiplayer demo is released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The multiplayer will consist of the Gold Rush game mode on the Oasis map, while the single player will get players acquainted with the colorful characters of B Company. The demo will be up on both Xbox Live and the PSN on June 5th, though people who preorder the game with be able to access the game a week earlier on May 29th. Hit the jump for the full press release, or head over to the Battlefield: Bad Company website for more on the preorder incentive.

Gold Fever Hits an All Time High With the Upcoming Battlefield: Bad Company Single-Player and Multi-Player Demo

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—You've been drafted to 'B' Company! DICE, a studio of Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:ERTS) today announced that a demo for its highly anticipated summer release, Battlefield: Bad Company™ will be available on Xbox LIVE™ Marketplace1 and PLAYSTATION® Store1 on June 5. Players will land on the battlefield as part of the 'B' or Bad Company, a wayward band of soldiers more interested in the pursuit of gold and personal financial gain than following the rules. Gamers will get a sneak peek at how tactical destruction changes the way shooters are played, both offline and online in the single player and multiplayer demo.

Players can also gain early access to the demo by pre-ordering the game through participating retailers in North America and Europe. More details on this special pre-order campaign can be found at http://www.battlefield.com/badcompany.

Players who missed their opportunity to participate in the closed beta get a second chance to experience the intense multiplayer Gold Rush mode on the Oasis map while the single player portion starts gamers at the beginning of their 'B' company career. The single player portion of the demo sets the stage for players as they're introduced to the humorous and sometimes irreverent set of characters that make up the 'B' company. As gamers embark on their quest for gold, they'll experience the same classic Battlefield gameplay including access to numerous vehicles, weapons and open maps as well as the new tactical destruction that only Battlefield: Bad Company can deliver.

In stores on June 25 in North America and June 27 in Europe, Battlefield: Bad Company is developed by Sweden-based developer DICE (Digital Illusions Creative Entertainment, www.dice.se). The game will be available for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and is rated "T" by the ESRB and "16+" by PEGI.

<![CDATA[ Too Much World For A Fallout 3 Demo ]]> There are several reasons not to have a demo for your game in this demo-hungry period of gaming history. There are time constraints that come into play, not wanting people to know your game sucks before it comes out, and in the case of Fallout 3, just too much world to hack off a piece.

"When you build it as one thing, there's no way to portion off a section and have it stand on its own without putting the whole game in the demo, which we're just not going to do," said Hines. "And it doesn't really capture the fun of a game like an Elder Scrolls or a Fallout, where you can go where you want and do what you want. So no demo, sorry."
It's like eating a strawberry off the top of a cake. Sure, it tastes great, but there is no way you'd know how the whole cake tastes just from eating a strawberry...and what if you're allergic to strawberries? Instead of picking it off and moving on, you'd assume the whole cake has strawberries? And what if you took an analogy too far? That's when you toss out three new screens and hightail it out of there.

<![CDATA[ Talking To The Iron Man Demo ]]> You'll notice long periods of silence in this video of my play through of the Iron Man demo on the Xbox 360. Those were moments when I was genuinely enjoying myself enough that I forgot I was filming it. Despite said enjoyment, I'd have to say that if I weren't an Iron Man fan, I probably wouldn't have been moved to buy the game after a single play through. To controls take a great deal of getting used to, the bits that let you use special moves to take out vehicles and turrets are simply jarring interactive cutscenes, and I could certainly see Tony's running dialogue with his computer JARVIS (Just A Rather Very Intelligent System) growing stale quickly. You're watching my second play through here. On my third I actually took things slow, and the flight controls grew on me quite a bit. Oh, and you can upgrade a couple of the systems in the suit...just not the one I was attempting to. The demo contains three game modes: Carnage Race, Deathmatch Derby and a Ragdoll stunt. Here's a little bit about each mode:

In 'Carnage Race' players fight against the clock to score points within the given time period by causing as much damage as possible to their environment and opponents. 'Deathmatch Derby' is an arena-based derby with one simple objective - destroy or be destroyed. And finally, Ragdoll stunts take center stage in 'High Jump,' where players must drive their car down the ramp as fast as possible to launch the driver through the windscreen high into the sky to slam into the metal net.

Sounds like a smashing good time! Anything with the words deathmatch and carnage in it is always intriguing to me. Want it now? Download it here.

<![CDATA[ Alone in the Dark 5 Tech Demo ]]>
Here we have a nice little piece of tech demo video showing off some of the features of the upcoming Alone in the Dark 5. Our lead character gets all McGuyver-esque, strapping things together with sticky tape to create new weapons or using it to stick things to the ceiling. Pretty crafty! I particularly like the shooting of the corpse to create a blood puddle that will distract the enemies long enough for you to pick them off from a distance.

<![CDATA[ A Million Downloads For DMC 4 Demo ]]> dmc4boxmil.jpgCapcom dropped us a line late yesterday to let us know that the Xbox Live demo of Devil May Cry 4 reached one million downloads back on the 9th of February. This means that the demo averaged 25,000 downloads a day since its release on January 24th, making it one of the fastest downloads to reach the million mark in Xbox Live history, as well as the first demo released this year to reach such a lofty number. Now to see how many of those demo downloading peoples actually went out to the store and picked up the game. Me? I rented, skeptical that the game was simply more of the same. Enjoying it so far, but not quite "buy" enjoying it.

<![CDATA[ PS3 Lost Planet Demo Yanked Due To Technical Problems ]]> Normally this would be the part where I ask you how you're all enjoying your PS3 demo of Lost Planet, but hey, not many of you were, and that's the whole point of this post. No sooner had the multiplayer demo launched on the PlayStation Store last week than complaints started coming in from users unable to connect to lobbies and get multiplayer games going. Obviously these problems were widespread enough for Capcom to pull the demo entirely, and even if you have got the game working, sorry, the servers are down too until a new version of the demo's released. Not the best of news for Capcom, then, but at least they seem to be able to see the funny side of things.

<![CDATA[ ]]> clubsml.jpgTHE CLUB - OK, PC owners, you can quit with the sad-puppy-eyes. Your version of a demo for Bizarre's The Club is now available at pretty much every major spot you'd normally visit for demos. It's just under 2GB, and since nothing's changed since the PS3/360 one, it's still a hoot.

<![CDATA[ DS Download Stations Infested With Eco-Creatures ]]> ecocreaturesscreen.jpgOh yeah, Nintendo has those Download Station thingies, don't they? Majesco reminds us of this fact by announcing a playable demo of their upcoming ecologically friendly RTS Eco-Creatures: Save the Forest is now available at any of 10,000 download stations across the the US. I don't think I've ever actually used a DS Download Station in my life (lies!), but Majesco seems to like them.
"We are excited that Eco-Creatures now joins the ranks of Cooking Mama, Cooking Mama 2: Dinner with Friends and Cake Mania as a phenomenal game launching with the support of a great demo available through the Nintendo kiosk program," said Gui Karyo, Executive Vice President of Operations, Majesco.
Eco-Creatures is set to launch on March 4th, so you have from now until then to find a Download Station and determine whether or not that news should excite you.

Majesco Entertainment Announces In-Store DSTM Demo For 'Eco-Creatures: Save the Forest'

Pre-Release Demo Now Available for Play at Retail Locations Nationwide

EDISON, N.J., January 28, 2008 - Providing Nintendo DS™ fans with the ability to try before they buy, Majesco Entertainment Company (NASDAQ: COOL), an innovative provider of video games for the mass market, today announced Eco-Creatures: Save the Forest will be featured in approximately 10,000 Nintendo DS™ Download Stations at major retail locations nationwide this January through May. Eco-Creatures is the only game of its kind that promotes environmental awareness by tasking players with defending the unspoiled forest against dangerous industrial encroachment.

"We are confident that anyone who tries Eco-Creatures will be compelled to pick up the full version once it ships and help save the world from ecological disaster."

Eco-Creatures: Save the Forest is a real-time strategy game in which players use the Touch Screen to control units of woodland creatures—named Ecolis, Ecoby and Ecomon—to protect the naturally beautiful Mana Woods and recover the polluted land. All creature types have unique skills that must be strategically managed. With proper nurturing, they can evolve to learn new abilities that help complete the game's more than 40 environmental missions. As players grow their woodland army, they must plant new trees to revitalize the woodlands and prevent deforestation.

Eco-Creatures also includes a creative Land Make feature that lets players build and play their own maps. In addition, the game supports two-player play via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection and up to four players via Wireless Single Card download play or Multi-Card play.

Eco-Creatures: Save the Forest will launch March 4 for the Nintendo DS at a suggested retail price of $29.99. For additional information, please visit www.majescoentertainment.com.

<![CDATA[ Super Smash Bros. Demo Booth Video Marathon ]]> If you just can't get enough of Super Smash Bros. footage, this is definitely the post for you. An SSBB fan in Japan has taken a video camera to his local gaming concern and started filming random battles between players on their SSBB demo station. Currently he has sixteen clips uploaded to YouTube and is updating them regularly for your viewing pleasure. He seems to be uploading them pretty quickly so by the time you read this there are likely to be a few more. Hopefully these demo stations will arrive in the states soon so we can experience it ourselves instead of enjoying it vicariously through overseas shaky cam footage.

Now is your chance to actually step into the shoes of Dan Carson, the New York City construction engineer, as he finds himself at ground zero of a Nazi invasion of the United States in an alternate timeline 1953. The demo clocks in at a healthy 1.2GB, taking you through the initial invasion of New York and ultimately leading you to a lovely splash screen detailing what you get in the full version of the game. <![CDATA[ Street Fighter IV, Playable Soon ]]> 3253.jpgStreet Fighter IV isn't just ready for sexy, 2D meets 3D videos, but for real gamers to actually play. Project Manager Natsuki Shiozawa announced on her blog that SFIV will be playable (at some level) at the AOU 2008 Amusement Expo this February in Japan's Makuhari Messe. You know Makuhari Messe as the home of TGS, and there's little doubt that after the media day on Feb 15, fans will stand in crazy-absurd lines for a little Shoryuken action.

As for me, stuck in the cold, lonely Midwest, dreading the release of SFIV after getting pwnd in SFII by Gizmodo's Jason Chen last week. All these years I thought that Chun Li was invincible.

<![CDATA[ Devil May Cry Demo Hits This Month? ]]>

The sharp eyes over at IGN have spotted what may be a juicy bit of news over on the Devil May Cry 4 fansite. If you click on the option to download a DMC4 widget, the site loads up an example picture which shows that the demo for the game will be hitting the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 on January 31.

Of course, as IGN also points out, this could just be bad placeholder text for the widget example. But with the game hitting just a week into February it doesn't seem like too far a stretch for that demo date to be right.

<![CDATA[ Sega Drops The Club Demo On 360 ]]> Curious about Sega's upcoming shooter The Club? Own an Xbox 360? Then you are in luck, as Sega has announced that a demo for Bizarre Creations' unusual foray outside of the racing genre will be hitting the Xbox Live Marketplace in Europe and Australia at 9 a.m. GMT tomorrow morning. Players will be able to step into the shoes of Renwick, the tough-as-nails NYPD detective who gets in too deep while investigating the titular organization. Run your man through the prison environment alone or with a friend via split-screen multiplayer. Now as of this writing (early in the morning) the demo has only been announced for Europe and Australia, I've a feeling that as the day rolls on we'll hear this is hitting North American 360s tomorrow as well. Or we'll cry. Just a little.

SEGA to Release Exclusive "Renwick" version of Demo for Intense Action-Packed Shooter, The Club, on Xbox LIVE Marketplace

LONDON (January 7th, 2008) - SEGA Europe Ltd. today announced that from 9 a.m. GMT on Tuesday 8th January, an exclusive demo for the exciting new shooter, The Club™ will be available via download across Europe and Australia on the Xbox LIVE® Marketplace for the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft.

Developed by industry revered development studio, Bizarre Creations, The Club™ mixes cutting edge high definition visuals with hyper-addictive score based challenges to deliver the most intriguing and innovative shooter of early 2008.

The demo features:

* The Prison environment; a disused crumbling, tomb-like Federal Penitentiary, lying in a remote region of one of the less glamorous Rustbelt states.
* One playable character exclusive to the Xbox LIVE® Marketplace version of the demo (Renwick, a tough, no nonsense, NYPD Detective whose investigations brought him too close to The Club™).
* Single player modes 'Sprint' and 'Time Attack'.
* Multiplayer split-screen.

As one of eight misfit gladiators players must fight in a shadowy underground blood-sport run by a secret group of sick millionaires. Each character has their own reasons for being in The Club™ - some are there against their will, others to experience the ultimate high. Whatever their reasons what unites them is the need to kill quickly and skilfully - a challenge those who download this demo will experience first hand.

UK Official Xbox 360 Magazine - "The rules of The Club are simple: you cannot break your stride. You cannot stop. You must be the perfect killing machine. This is Space Invaders for the Quentin Tarantino generation. Welcome to heaven."

<![CDATA[ Circle Of Doom Demo Looms Over Xbox Live ]]> A playable demo of Kingdom Under Fire: Circle of Doom has found its way up onto Xbox Live today, and I am scared to download it. It's not that I don't have the 1.2GB free space on my hard drive, or that I lack the time to sit down and play it. It's just that they took my beloved action RTS and neutered it into a hack and slash action RPG, and I can't bear to look. It's like being called down to the morgue to identify a loved one, only reversed. You guys download it and tell me if the coast is clear. The two stage demo shouldn't take you too long to work your way through. Does it retain the KUF look and feel? Is that really out-of-place guitar metal still there? Over the past year I've offered my opinion on the playability of countless games, and now it's your turn to do me a favor. Take one for the team!

<![CDATA[ Dark Messiah: Elements Demo Casts Spell On 360 ]]> PC action RPG Dark Messiah of Might and Magic is coming to the Xbox 360 in case you missed it, and today Ubisoft has unleashed a demo for the game onto Xbox Live for your playing pleasure. The demo not only features the first map of the single player mode, playable as either a Mage or a Knight, but also a multiplayer map that allows players everywhere to get a taste of multiplayer RPG combat across all four player classes. The demo runs something like 689 megs, and is currently downloading to my console in the other room. Looking forward to the promise of Dark Messiah (hopefully) without the general bugginess of its PC predecessor, which was one of the only games I ever just gave up on playing due to glitches. Also be sure to check out the newly launched www.darkmessiahelements.com for the latest game info and flash-animated flame effects. Awesome!
