What could they possible be afraid of?
Modern Warfare 2? pfffttt that thing is going to sink faster then a sack full of kittens in the Mississippi #socomusnavysealsfireteambravo3
@Two Flush Dump: Yeah, let's get real here. They don't wanna go up against a juggernaut like Modern Warfare 2 and get overshadowed. Just admit it Sony. #socomusnavysealsfireteambravo3
@Black-Dog-Howls: FPS gamers are really... Weird. They jump from game to game regardless of the platform in order to get a head-start on that game's community. #socomusnavysealsfireteambravo3
@sonicsurge: -but Socom is a semi-tactical slow third person shooter. Modern Warfare 2 is a speedy(but definitely not twitch) run and gun shooter. #socomusnavysealsfireteambravo3
Man on Phone-Yes hello I would like to call in for a date on a game.
Operator-Yes what game?
Man-Ah yes, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories
Operator-We're sorry but the game has been delayed.
Man-WHAT?! NO this can't be. No! My heart...its failing me
Operator-Would you like an ambulance?
Man-No I'm fine but you might need to get a swat team for Konami...

@Malaysia Isachargin:
Well considering that the original SH is difficult to get (unless you can download off of PSN) then assuming you have a PS2, I'd recommend buying one of the others first. SH1 and SH2 are good but graphically dated, which may bug you. SH3 still looks fantastic even now, and is very good (it was my first). SH4 is...a little iffy on whether you should start with that. SH Origins on PSP was really good, but the PS2 port suffered.
Overall, I wouldn't start out with Shattered Memories to be honest, even though that's what the developer's are trying to do (pull new people in). Still, if you start with SH: SM and think you know the story, etc. and then attempt to talk about SH to people, anyone who has more exposure to the series is going to chew the hell out of you. Same thing happened with people who started with Origins, and went into forums, etc. with a naive view of SH.
@Malaysia Isachargin: In Europe at least they recently reissued SH2 and 3. Great value (I think they were like €25 each or something really cheap like that) and definitely worth buying if you can find them.
@Silent Predator fell on bad days: I worship the early Silent Hill games, but I'm still hopeful about each new iteration in the series. This looks like it might have some potential. I'll certainly wait till I've actually played it before passing judgement.
@Cerabret100: really? every fiber of your being? I'd hate to see how you feel about genocides, nuclear warfare and things that actually make a difference to the world. Do you grow extra fibers for that?
I bet one-eyed Fidel Castro will blame it all on the Americans!
Just kidding! I'll buy and preorder it just because Obsidian is behind it.
Besides, Obsidian have always tried to deliver story and ambition rather than a polished, complete game. Perhaps this delay will help them achieve both.
I'm still intrigued, just a little disappointed. I guess it was for the best. But I fear I'll be too busy playing everything else coming out in 2010. games that I think everyone has been waiting for a long time.
@Bloatus: Yea I'm thinking the same, yet I'm still annoyed as it's already been delayed once before but let's hope that Obsidian use this delay to their advantage and really put out a top notch product and hope it's not just so SEGA can implement some crappy form of DRM.
I hope this works out well for Obsidian. The upcoming holiday season is looking to be incredibly packed, and Alpha Protocol would probably get lost in it all.
@hatebobbarker: And the Game of the Year edition for Fallout 3 for me, since I've been waiting for all the DLC to be out and in one package before playing it again with mods.
I think this could be *great* news. Every other Obsidian game has been rushed out the door somewhat unfinished/unpolished. It's great to see that Sega is giving them the extra time they need to polish this one.
for notes, See: Kotor2's unfinished ending and NWN2's sharp decline and storyboard cinematics using in-game models posed. Also, lack of Description text on many items. The first chapter of the expansion had higher production.
@Rakkoon: Very true, though in my experience a delay of game just makes me crave it more. I am disappointed, however, that I won't have this game on my roster of games to take for a spin this fall.
