Anyone know if this is going to be a bargain game like RE4 for the Wii? At $19, I'd pick it up for the multi, but anything over that would be ridiculous. I'm pretty bitter that this game -- one of the most requested back-compat for the 360 -- remains impossible to play on the 360 as we wait for the remake to finally be released. There's no way that's a coincidence. Anyway, it's one of the best shooters around, but if Starbreeze and/or MS were confident that this remake was worth the cash above and beyond the purchase price of the original, I would think they'd let people who already bought the Xbox version to play that while they wait for the new one.
"I'd pay 30$ if it was just a remake, but for the new single play adventure + remake, $60 sounds fair."
The new single-player is essentially the same game with what amounts to a new level. Basically no different than a downloadable mission. The graphics look nearly identical to me (seriously, compare screen shots and tell me where you see a significant difference). So fine, add $10 for the new level and the game's now worth $29 -- $39 if you really want to push it. RE4 for the Wii gave widescreen (which the GameCube version didn't have), a new control scheme and new gameplay options and still managed to sell for $20 or $30.
Maybe you're right. Maybe it's an entirely new experience. One that's worth the same price as a brand new game. But if that is the case, why not allow people with the original game to play it on the 360? I only played through it once on the Xbox. I'd love to play through it again. And I'd love to do that without having to pay $60 for something I already purchased.
@Sloopydrew:
This is both a remake as well as an extra chapter (said to be as long as the original Butcher's Bay) in the Riddick series. So you'd be paying for a remastered version of the original as well as a full standard game on top of that.
Okay, guys. You proved me wrong. I didn't know this was an entirely new GAME. I thought the Dark Athena thing was like a one or two hour extra chapter. If it really is 10 hours or more and an actual sequel that just happens to include the original game, it sounds more like an Orange Box sort of thing and would definitely be worth more than $20 or $30.

@Sloopydrew: Basically, the gist of things: It used to be a "remake with another little chapter", then all the delays, the activision blizzard thing, and such - they took advantage of the situation to polish out Dark Athena into another game on it's own instead of the original plan.

This is excellent news! I loved the game but it wasn't a hit. Never, ever thought we'd get a full sequel. Definitely looking forward to this now. Wow. I went from thinking it was a remake with tacked-on multiplayer to finding out it was a full-fledged sequel in less than an hour. Thanks for getting me up-to-date!
@Sloopydrew: Actually, Dark Athena has Butcher Bay, and another 10+/- hour experience added on - it's not just a single new level [kotaku.com] There are two seperate campaigns. So, according to your logic, that should be about $40 (20 + 20). Now, throw in mulitplayer (approx. $10) and HD-ified graphics (again, approx. $10) and we're at $60. The game looked great on the original Xbox, but these screenshots do look significantly better than that game looked on the Xbox.
Sounds a LOT like The Hidden. Bunch of guys against one who can has a knife and see in the dark. Person who kills The Hidden becomes The Hidden the next round.
@UntrueProphecy: Yup, was thinking the same thing. That game scared the shit out of me, because I could never adjust my eyes to find that bastard. The times that I was the Hidden though...oh was there slaughter. I loved pinning dead bodies to the ceiling. I might have to play this again!

Much improved graphics, animation and AI + a new single player story mode + multiplayer is not worth it for you?

For some reason the above post (the one I'm replying to) showed up in the wrong thread. G-zuz -- I am generally sucking at the Internet today.

$10 for "HD-ified" graphics? Really? So, THAT'S what the "next-gen" fee was all about.

I don't think it would be possible to be worse than The Darkness' multiplayer.
