As I am writing this I am watching the clock slowly tick down on the Diablo Battlechest for $27.99, wondering whether or not I should just go ahead and make the purchase or spend hours sorting through my collection of over a thousand PC CDs and DVDs, searching for the copies I already own. Today Amazon.com is all about Blizzard's big games, which makes sense considering Blizzard isn't exactly known for their small ones. The Deal of the Day is the World Of Warcraft Battlechest for $26.99, which is nice considering the expansion alone still goes for $30 in most stores.

As of this posting we just missed the Diablo Battlechest, but who wanted to play crappy old Diablo anyway? Everybody? Oh. Whoops. Well now we have The Burning Crusade expansion for WoW for , followed by what? The Frozen Throne expansion to Warcraft III by itself and then the Warcraft III Battlechest? Left up to me it would have been The Lost Vikings all day long, with an ever-rising price to punish latecomers for their lack of urgency.

<![CDATA[ Nintendo Gold Box Deals Hit Amazon Friday ]]> Planning on buying any Nintendo games soon? Put the brakes on, pal. Amazon's teasing us with big savings on nine — count 'em, NINE! — Nintendo... things for this Friday, June 27. They say it's a "first time ever" kind of thing. They'll be given the Gold Box treatment that's sure to help you scratch that video game consumption itch. The specifics from Amazon are...

  • At 12:01 AM PST the first deal will be the Gold Box Deal of the Day. Its special discounted price will be available all day only on Friday, June 27 (or until we run out.)
  • Starting at 6:00 AM PST, the second deal will be featured as a Lightning Deal. This special price will be available for the following two hours.
  • Each of the eight remaining deals will also be Lightning Deals. Starting every two hours that follow at 8:00 AM, 10:00 AM, 12:00 PM, 2:00 PM, 4:00 PM, and 6:00 PM PST, and 8:00 PM each deal will be available for two hours after it begins.

I'm predicting a Wii Fit blowout! Okay, that's less than likely, but maybe I'll get a few bucks off that copy of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess I never got around to. What? I'm busy.

Nintendo Icons [Amazon - thanks, Spencer!]

I happen to prefer my games to remain unmolested by the unwashed masses, but GameFly's little blow out on used titles like Mass Effect, Devil May Cry 4 and Burnout Paradise, each just $19.99 shipped, is tempting. Mint cases and manuals are certainly attractive, even if your cooties are going to be all over the disc. Many other wicked cheap "AAA" titles await you. Via CheapAssGamer.

<![CDATA[ For the Frugal: Big Savings on PS Git-tar Games ]]> For a limited time, like the McRib, PS2 gamers can grab up the Rock Band Special Edition Bundle for $99.99. Also, today only for PS3 gamers, Musician's Friend's Stupid Deal of the Day is Guitar Hero III for $49.99 — half off.
Rock Band Special Edition Bundle gets you the whole shooting match, game, drums, mike, git-tar, etc., and ordinarily lists on Amazon for $159.99. They don't say how long this crazy mad special is going on, natch. But it's effective now.

Harmonix flacked it as a great idea for a Father's Day gi — OH, SHIT.

Just a sec, brb.

OK, got that resolved. Anyway, Harmonix touts it as a nice Dad's Day gift but we got the release on Friday, meaning they're counting on some real late shoppers. The release also flacked the upcoming Rock Band Track Pack Volume 1 for PS2 and Wii, a 20-song pack dropping July 15 for $29.99. You'll get songs by Boston, NIN, Stone Temple Pilots, and 30 Seconds to Mars, among others.

<![CDATA[ Haze Gets Bargain Binned ]]> Well, that didn't take long. GameStop's weekly ad reveals that the games retailer is moving copies of Haze for the low price of $39.99, a $20 drop from the suggested retail price it launched with less than three weeks ago. That could be very telling of its retail performance if GameStop is already slashing prices on the game, but publisher Ubisoft may be behind the move to get rid of some copies of the PlayStation 3 shooter. Even at forty bucks, I'd find it hard to recommend, but you'll have to decide for yourself.

<![CDATA[ Gears of War, Mass Effect On The Cheap ]]> Attention, frugal gamers! Amazon.com has slashed prices on two Xbox 360 exclusives, Gears of War and Mass Effect, each ringing up at $34.99 USD, a fairly impressive savings. Sure, you could wait a few weeks and pick up the more complete Gears of War package, but this one's slightly cheaper! And Mass Effect features virtual orgasmic rape, from what we've heard. <![CDATA[ Sega Superstars Tennis Double Faults At Retail, Now Just $19.99 ]]> Sega Superstars Tennis 2? Hahahahaha! That's a good one! With the game just five weeks old in North America, GameStop is already slashing prices on Sega and Sumo Digital's Sonic-filled answer to Mario Tennis, with Sega Superstars Tennis bottoming out at $19.99 USD for the Wii, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 2. The Nintendo DS version? Just $14.99 USD.

If you're in need of a GTA IV hype deflection shield or you're now willing to bite at this price—even I am, despite my bitterness about a lack of Space Harrier or Cosmic Smash Guy—you can pick it up in-store or online as of right now.

<![CDATA[ Preorder Age Of Conan And Get Early Access For $5 ]]> aocboxpre.jpg The release of Funcom's Age of Conan is a little over a month away, and preorder offers are in full swing across North America, Europe, and Oceania. Players who preorder will get exclusive in-game items, such as the War Mammoth and Killer Rhino mounts (accessible after level 40), and a special storage belt dealie. As a special bonus to those who reserve themselves a copy, Funcom and Eidos are offering a three-day head start, where you'll be able to play the game before those suckers who didn't put down some cash, all for the low, low price of 5 USD (or 5 EUR). What, you have to pay? Not quite sure what world that makes sense in. It doesn't seem to be referring to the $5 you put down for reserve either. You get 30 days free play in the box, why make players pay $5 for the first 10 days? It boggles the mind, but hey...a head start is a head start. Hit up the Age of Conan website for details on participating retailers.

AGE OF CONAN GETS READY FOR LAUNCH

Pre-order programs now available in all Western territories offering three day head-start in Hyboria

DURHAM, North Carolina - April 16, 2008 - Funcom and Eidos today announced that Age of Conan pre-order programs are now fully available in all major territories including USA, Germany, France, Spain, UK, Oceania and the Nordic countries. Conan fans and MMO gamers are already raving about the incredible pre-order items, including the War Mammoth and Killer Rhino, and today Funcom goes one step further to confirm that pre-ordering Age of Conan will grant players early access to the land of Hyboria.*

Ever since Funcom and Eidos started the first pre-orders in early 2008, the program has received great feedback. The exceptional Age of Conan Collector's Edition has topped the charts in numerous online retail chains for weeks, including being #1 on several all-format lists. The most eager fans are therefore urged to order their copy of the Collector's Edition immediately as it only comes in one print-run.

Funcom now also confirms an early access program which will give customers a chance of a head-start in Age of Conan. Funcom reveals that American, European and Oceanic players may enter Age of Conan as early as the 17th of May. Mere weeks away, early adopters can now live, fight and explore in Hyboria, as well as getting an essential head-start before the hordes invade.

"We are very pleased with the reception Age of Conan has had in retail and we naturally hope that the early interest and our early access programs will materialize in an eventual success," said Morten Larssen, VP Sales and Marketing of Funcom. "The positive indications are naturally an honor, but they also bring a great responsibility. As we prepare the roll-out, we know our servers will be put to the test. We therefore hope potential players will aid us by signaling their interest as soon as possible so we can scale our servers and services accordingly."

Age of Conan launches on May 20 and is consistently mentioned as one of the most anticipated PC games in development. It has received more than 25 magazine covers and more than 15 major awards including numerous "Best MMO of E3" awards and the "Best Online Game of Show" award at GC 2007. Age of Conan is a key title in Microsoft's Games for Windows lineup, as well as a showcase title for nVidia.

For a list of participating retailers or to get more information about the game, please visit: www.ageofconan.com

* The early access program is only available with certain retailers; a participant list can be found on the official Age of Conan website. The early access is entirely voluntary and opens up on the 17th of May for Oceanic and North American gamers and on the 20th of May for European gamers. Pre-loading of the client will commence in advance. You need to pay a nominal 5 USD / EUR fee to take advantage of the offer, which includes client download and 10 days of subscription. When the early access offer expires you must enter the physical retail box gamekey to continue playing.

<![CDATA[ Amazon Hands $50 To HD DVD Suckers ]]> OK, folks. We're almost entirely passed the debacle that was HD DVD. But we thought that we'd betterlet you know that Amazon is offering $50 of credit back to those who purchased HD DVD players before February 23, 2008.

But if we're reading the fine print correctly, there are two super cool things about this deal. First, you don't need to give up your HD DVD player. It's simply free money. Second, there is no start date to this offer, so if you bought an HD DVD player from them when the technology hit the market, you should still be eligible for the rebate.

Here's the full offer from an Amazon email.

Dear Amazon.com Customer,

As someone who purchased an HD DVD player from us before February 23, 2008,* you might like to hear about a special offer available from Amazon.com.

New technologies don't always work out as planned. We at Amazon.com value our customer relationships more than anything and would like to support customers who purchased these players by offering a credit good for $50 off any products sold by Amazon.com.** Just use promotional code PROMO CODE HERE when checking out. The code is valid through April 9, 2009, so you have plenty of time to use your credit. Purchases from third-party merchants on our site are not eligible.

In addition, we'd like to share some of our top offers on Blu-ray discs, HDTVs and other high-def technology and remind you that the Amazon.com Marketplace is available to sell items you might not want anymore as you upgrade to new ones. Also be sure to check out our monthly Amazon.com Early Adopters Delivers email to find out about the latest technology.

* On February 23, 2008, the last manufacturer of HD DVD players announced it was ceasing production of those players.

** Offer cannot be used to pay for special-order titles, e-books or downloadable e-content, wireless service plans, gift certificates, gift-wrap, taxes, or shipping and handling charges. $50.00 promotional credit is per HD DVD player purchased prior to February 23, 2008—up to 10 units for a maximum credit of $500.00.

If you've purchased an HD DVD player from Amazon and haven't received this email, contact them immediately. Apparently it's good for the Xbox 360 peripheral.

Whereas most would simply rent a game that they intended to return, GameStop would prefer you to buy a game and forget to return it.

But if a retailer offered us a no-haggle, one-week return on all their titles, such would be commendable to the point of throwing parades in their honor. <![CDATA[ Stranglehold Collector's Edition (PS3) Is $40 On Amazon ]]> 51Q21PR9GGL._SS400_.jpgAmazon has a nice deal going on Stranglehold Collector's Edition for PS3. It's just $40 if you order today (which is $30 off retail). Some of you may remember this as the version with a Blu-ray movie of John Woo's "Hard Boiled." And some of you may also remember that the movie was original region protected, but Midway gave and made the movie region free after fans complained.

So in other words, this deal may be decent for our UK friends as well (and even you Ash, to pick up while you're in the States). It's odd not to hear from Ash in his night notes, isn't it? Not that Luke "kangaroo boxer" Plunkett isn't great, but I for one am eagerly awaiting the tales of Mini-Bash experiencing Tex Mex cuisine, American Santa and buxom Texas ladies.

<![CDATA[ COD4 Is Just $39.95 On Amazon ]]> As part of Amazon's "Video Games 10 days, 10 deals" sale, Call of Duty 4 is deeply discounted for both the Xbox 360 and PS3. On either platform, it's just $39.95 to land a copy (and, of course, you get the free shipping on orders over $25). While the game has already sold a boatload of discs, many late adopters (OK, maybe just me) will find themselves making a very reasonably priced purchase in the very near future. Wait...since when is $40 "reasonable"? Oh my god, we've been brainwashed!

<![CDATA[ Want to experience Rapture on the cheap? ... ]]> Want to experience Rapture on the cheap? How about the slightly less expensive? BioShock is Amazon's current lightning deal, meaning, for the next 90 minutes, shoppers can pick up the Xbox 360 version of the game for $39.99 US. We don't expect it to drop to that price at regular retail for some time, so snap it up already! Thanks, budget minded tipsters.

<![CDATA[ CompUSA Shutting Down Retail Stores ]]> compusa.jpgRetailer CompUSA will be closing its 103 brick and mortar stores, giving gamers one less physical option for getting their hands on software, hardware and accessories. Reuters reports that the Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim sold the retail chain to Gordon Brothers, who will oversee the liquidation of store assets. That could mean slashed prices on video games, computer hardware and consoles. CompUSA hasn't quite been the destination of choice for core gamers, so I doubt most readers who aren't currently employed at a location will have many tears to shed for the store. However, frequent visitors may be able to find some deals in the wake of store closings.

<![CDATA[ AMEX To Sell $300 Elite Bundle, $50 Rock Band ]]>

As part of their annual MyWishList deal, American Express will be selling a limited number of Xbox 360 Elites starting next month for $300 with five games includes.

The deal, for AmEx cardholders only, will include the Elite plus copies of Ultimate Alliance, Project Gotham Racing 3, Madden NFL 08, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 and Forza 2. Only 150 of the bundles will be available on Dec. 11 at 3 pm. and 7 p.m. I'm not quite sure if that means a total of 150 or 300 of the packs.

At noon on the same day, MyWishList will feature 100 Rock Band special editions for the 36o at $50 a pop. Not bad, not bad at all.

<![CDATA[ Search for Game Deals On Amazon.com ]]>

The generically named Brand Name Coupons has put together a great little page with links to items on sale on Amazon.com. It's divided into categories and then each category has links for items ranging anywhere from 10% to 90% off. Quickly scrolling through I found deals on Psychonauts, New Super Mario Brothers, Lost Planet and others. While every entry may not be that special low, low price you were wanting, there's enough there that you'll probably find something you're looking for, even if you didn't know you were looking for it. if you want to scroll though everything on sale, click the 10% link and it will take you to a page with everything that 10% off or more. Also included is a link to the Amazon UK version of the same page. Good luck and happy clicking!

<![CDATA[ PS3 After Market Nosedives ]]>

Before the Playstation 3 hit, the console was selling for $2,000 to $3,000 a pop. The day the console hit, the average price of a Playstation 3 on eBay was $2,900.

But as of Saturday that price had already dropped to closer to $1,100. That was short-lived. The question is, would you stand around in the cold and rain for two to three days for less than $500 profit?

<![CDATA[ $100 Xbox 360 Confirmed (Pretty Much) ]]> CHEAP ASS TARD PACKRemember that $100 Xbox 360 Core System rumor I posted? Remember that all Microsoft-based rumors are true?

Amazon is running a special weekly promotion, for the next four weeks, in which they'll sell one hot item at a very low price. But here's the rub, that item must be voted on by Amazon customers. This week, it's Xbox 360 vs. Amazon Prime membership vs. Mongoose mountain bike vs. Barbie. Clearly, the Xbox 360 is going to win, as it has an 85% share of the votes at time of publish.

Customers can buy the cheap ass Xbox next Thursday starting at 11 AM PST. Amazon even has some handy buying tips to help improve your odds. Good luck! You'll need it.
