@Pretty Pink Pwnie: Yes, but, you see, this is a sports column, which means it is a column about sports games, which means you're off topic. #ncaafootball10
"Few experiences have been more gratifying than taking over a two-star doormat, storming the Top 10, and getting that "Where'd They Come From?!" headline in the next week's NCAA news."
I was going to post a video of my "doormat" school's alma mater, but there's not a video of it on YouTube.
I find it funny that people are so offended by this "condoning of hate words" or whatever you call it, when the actual acronym relates to the people fighting AGAINST the grenade spammers, not the grenade spammers themselves. This means that it is simply, in my opinion, Infinity Ward throwing in a humorous acronym a-la-Team America. #nsfw
@Eastwing:
This is the silliest arguement Ive heard. "They're not calling these people FAGS, theyre calling THESE people FAGS.". Oooh well thats...NOT different. It doesnt matter who they are calling fags dip. A large scale company selling a major product should not be calling ANYONE a fag. #nsfw
Anyone lumping all the negative criticism against this viral into one pile should take note of MO's point. Sure the Internet is hyper-sensitive but large companies should already know this and act accordingly.
Also I doubt that Broken Lizard really wants people to look to Team America as a model for social and corporate behavior. Nice try though Eastwing et al. #nsfw
@Modus_Operandi: Ok I agree on review of my comment that I am pretty much saying that, which isn't what I meant really.
I just meant that the "fags" wasn't actually directed at anyone, it was simply being used in a sarcastic manner because of its association with grenade spamming, rather that as a derogatory word.
That said, if infinity ward themselves have pulled it, I suppose it wasn't that anyway, so I'll retract my first comment completely.
(And yeah I know, even if it was sarcastic humour, it shouldn't involve words that are offensive with large, influencial companies) #nsfw
@Doozerhunter: Seriously? In a game with war crimes, terrorist attacks, and whose whole point is to kill other people? They get sensitive over some guy swearing and interjecting humor into the multiplayer aspect? That is all kinds of messed up. #nsfw
People are dropping there pre-order because of this. Who cares I think in your mind you will regret dropping it and getting it anyway. Its been two years since the last game and a week and a couple days and you are dropping it. Sad. #nsfw
@grantanamo: Congratulations! First post and you've already split the board into 2 camps: the 95% of everybody who fucking hates you for being a fucking idiot and the other 5% who jumped on the Duke bandwagon back when Duke actually was a threat to win it all. #sports
Chill out, people. There's truly more hideous crimes in the world than some people creating satire. If you're so against the word "fag" -- which I'll note was never stated or written by the parties involved, just implied -- then you should probably stay away from the Internet. It's (thankfully) a place for crowd of people that doesn't cry bloody murder when someone makes an allegedly offensive remark.
Last I checked, no one threw a hissie fit over Film Actors Guild in Team America. Learn to have a sense of humor about yourself, my god.
Oh, and claiming to cancel your order of the game over this? Haha, not likely. I'm sure you longtime CoD players are totally done with the series because of this "outrageous personal insult." Get over yourselves. #nsfw
@Lethal Dosage: Man, if you're against racism, you should just stay out of America. If you hate sexism, just stay away from big groups of men. If you hate violence, don't get shot.
And yes, I've been playing COD 2 and 4 regularly since the launch of the 360 and, yes, I cancelled it. And yes, I know at least three others who did. #nsfw
@lionkitten: Nice job putting words in my mouth and comparing a joke PSA to real life violence.
Good for you on the "cancellation". Way to be thin-skinned enough to not take a joke that's likely not pointed at you.
I hope you cancel your cable TV tonight so South Park or Sons Of Anarchy never has the chance to personally offend you. Keep on fighting your good fight and I'm sure, in due time, no one will be allowed to attempt humor ever again. #nsfw
Those without a thick skin won´t make it in this world anyhow (see: Natural Selection).
It takes a special kind of moron to be this politically correct... You know, the type that listens to inflammatory reverse-racism and calls it ¨truth¨ (see: Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson).
As far as I recall, I never held any whips and I couldn´t care less what race you are or whatever happened centuries ago. I will use the word gay, fag, spic and nigger and will only stop once all this idiotic politically correct wave goes away.
If you can´t see through someone´s intentions when they speak, then you´re probably too fucking stupid (and taking too much space). #nsfw
Geez. People will bitch about anything. Grow some fuckin' balls, man up, and take it on the chin. I'm from the south. People pick up on this because I have a southern accent. They talk shit to me all the time about being a redneck, screwing my own family, and all kinds of stereotypical crap. But I guess 'cuz none of those things are a specific word directly used to insult a minority in this country, then it's A-OK!
It's perfectly fine to insult me for being from the South, but if someone cracks a fried chicken and watermelon joke at a black guy or uses the word "fag" to insult someone, hoooooooly shit. PC Police come rollin' in and everyone is up in arms.
But you know what - they're just people talking shit, so who gives a fuck? I don't let it bother me. And it's funny, because there's a lot of intollerance and bigotry 'round Kotaku, but no one seems to care as long as everyone agrees to it.
A good example would be any post even remotely related to religion. As soon as a religious article gets posted, the internet hate machine churns up, and the comments are flooded with "Flying Spaghetti Monster" post, people ranting about how "stupid religious idiots" are ruining humanity, and all sorts of lovely remarks filled with hate and malice towards a collective group of people.
I dunno about you, but that seems a lot like religious intolerance which is very much in the same vein as this whole fiasco. Granted, I can't go comment-by-comment and say all the people commenting on this video are the same posting on the religious articles, but I read Kotaku enough to see quite a few regular names and know a number of people are at fault.
As a religious person, I don't exactly enjoy reading comments that are ignorantly bashing my beliefs which are something very important to me. But hey, I deserve it 'cuz I believe a bowl of pasta created the universe, right?
But you know what? I just deal with it. Why the fuck am I going to let some random assholes on the internet get me up in arms because of some stupid crap like that? Further, why even acknowledge their behavior by dignifying them with a response? So I don't.
Yet when it comes to something like this, everyone and their mother wants to act like it's some huge atrocity that just makes them sick to their stomach. So Infinity Ward is saying grenade spammers are a bunch of fags. Okay. Got'cha. Cool. It's immature, lowbrow humor. Maybe you laughed, maybe you rolled your eyes, but why make a big deal about it?
I'm sure you can argue that, "Ignoring it simply propagates the notion that it's okay to say it!" . . . Yeah, and? Your point? You could ban these words, make them illegal to speak, and incur harsh punishments on those who say them, but you're not going to change anything. It's inevitable. Like how saying gay and retard are now synonymous with something considered dumb or stupid.
And even if you could censor it, you're not going to change what people think and what goes on in their minds. By restricting and limiting it, people may act proper outside of their homes, but it's not going to change what's on the inside. And in that respect, it's a bad thing. Who wants to live in a world where everyone masks who they are and how they really feel for the sake of being PC?
If I was a gay guy, I'd rather know 2 people in my social circle think of me as a "gay ass pounding fag" so I can not associate them, rather than live in ignorance and happy at the fact that we've all got our PC masks on. And the more liberated people are to speak their minds and express who they really are, the better you can be at picking who you do and don't wish to associate with.
As I mentioned earlier, I'm religious, but I also believe in freedom. Want to be a muslim, agnostic, atheist, etc? More power to you. For those of you who aren't Christians (and God knows there's plenty of you on this site), how would you feel if this was still the 1900s and you had to pretend to be religious and maintain and act a certain way to save face in the community? As a non-Christian, you probably wouldn't like it very much.
Yet, that's essentially what being PC is. Instead of following a religious standard, now everyone feels they need to adhere and abide to a set of legal standards on what should be and isn't acceptable. But why? Everyone should just be who they are and act the way they want without some group calling the waaambulance on 'em because something they said made this other group feel bad.
As I stated at the beginning of this rant: Grow some balls. Stop letting every minor thing in this world upset you and how you find it "disgusting" that people act a certain way. Don't like it? Don't get involved with it. But acting like it's some huge atrocity against mankind is just ridiculous. #nsfw

Insulting someone because of theyre from the South is ignorant too but the difference between that and calling someone a "nigger" or a "fag" is simple. If youre from the South and youre called a redneck you might not mind it so much, even though it still annoys you, because no one ever tried to kill you JUST because you were from the South and you never heard a group or person scream it out with a violent intent soon to follow. Thats the difference. Again youre trying to equate your personal encounters to this and that doesnt hold. Sure everyone has been made fun of or picked on at some point in their lives over their own personnel style or beliefs but few people are attacked soley because of this. Thats why those groups of people are called minorities. It doesnt take a pair of nuts to brush off bigotry it takes a pair of nuts to tell that someone to cram it. #nsfw
@xAngelGabrielx: At which point did I condone lynching and hate crimes? The majority of my rant was focused on how being PC is merely a mask for one's true behavior in most cases.
I understand the need for certain groups of people to stand up for what they believe in and support causes and movements for equality. At no point did I ever include part of that in my rant. I fully realize the importance of people's civil liberties and rights and would never think of stopping them.
But blowing a fuse and freaking out over something as insignificant as using the term "fag" in a non-derogatory fashion? That's just being petty. And that's mostly what my rant was about.
As I said, I come across religious intolerance a *lot* on the internet, but most of the time it's just people spouting off stupid crap. So I just turn the other cheek and walk on by. However, if I ever felt like I was being attacked, persecuted, or in any form of danger because of my beliefs or I felt people were trying to oppress and stop me from having said beliefs (in the same vein as what you mentioned) that'd be another story entirely, and I doubt you'd see me sitting idly by. There's a big difference between the two.
As for my comparison, your reaction is exactly what I'm talking about. When someone says fag, it's a "hate crime". When I get ridiculed for having an accent, what's the big deal?
Having people crack jokes about you having sex with your own family, living on some backwoods farm with a banjo and a shotgun, and having people assume your intelligence level is that of a 1st grader is hardly funny the first time. Let alone after you've heard them THOUSANDS of times.
But at the end of the day, you shrug it off and don't worry about it. And that's what more people should do. Instead, this video calls annoying grenade spammers "fags" and a few hundred people come to the rescue saying it's a terrible injustice and Infinity Ward is now a bunch of hate mongers.
If you don't like it, don't watch it. Hell, you can even go so far as to not support the game. Good for you! But to act like every man, woman, and child on this earth should be appalled by it because so dictates the laws of being PC is quite ridiculous.
@Modus_Operandi: They're minorities because they represent a minor demographic compared to the majority. Not because they've been attacked and persecuted (although minorities have been attacked and persecuted for that fact, it doesn't make them one-in-the-same). Still, a lot of what I said above applies to what you wrote as well. So hopefully that adds some clarity to my argument. #nsfw
@Kanji08: Here's an idea: why don't you man up and stop using other people's bigotry as an excuse for your own? The fact that people make fun of you for being from the South does not justify you calling someone a fag. It's still derogatory and you're still a dickhead. #nsfw
@Modus_Operandi: Obviously you're not from the South, or at least you're an extremely lucky southerner. You think we don't get persecuted? We may not get lynched or otherwise violenced, but as soon as I say I'm from the south on many websites or clubs or any sort of "intellectual"-ish thing, I get ostracized. The south thing isn't TOO bad, though... it's being a Christian that really sucks. I remember leaving an entire forum, even though I really really enjoyed the intelligent community and conversation, mostly just because they were almost all British atheist dudes and they would hardly listen to a word I said. And yes, words like "intolerant" and "homophobe" (and I never said anything about homosexuals) were thrown around a lot. What I'm saying is that the difference isn't so pronounced as you may think. Intolerance of gays is steadily declining every day, and honestly racism hardly even exists anymore in most places. Eventually they'll both be at about the same level as all the OTHER stupid ignorant crap and on that note I have to go to work! Heh.... didn't mean to write so much there. #nsfw
@Kanji08: I am not outraged, only disappointed. I also have 'a pair'.
It's like this. I am black and gay. I get enough crap from gamers on LIVE. I don't need the same brand of shit from developers and their marketing department. Maybe I'll buy the game, maybe I won't but IW could have created a funny video without 'going there'. #nsfw
DISCLAIMER: Had to wait 'til now to reply to all these comments due to Gawker being screwed up over the weekend.
@klip_twings: I'm not "defending" the use of this language. I find the whole thing to be immature and petty. What I'm calling out is all the people completely blowing it out of the water and act like everyone in the world should be appalled by it simply because they are.
As I stated time and time again in my previous posts, there's a LOT of things that directly insult me and my beliefs, but I just let it go. And that's what I'm saying. In no way am I trying to convey that these things shouldn't upset me. In fact, it's quite the opposite - They do upset me, but that's life.
When you crash on your bike and scrape your knees, what do you do? Brush it off and get back on the bike. Not run inside, cry to mommy, and ask her to kiss it all better. Sure the scrape hurts, but you get over it and move on. There's far more important things to worry about than something that petty.
And that's ultimately my point. You have the right to dislike this just as much as others have the right to laugh hysterically at it, but in no way should you feel like a great injustice has been done to you over something so insignificant.
Life happens, shit happens, and people piss each other off. We all deal with it and move on. You can still be offended by it, but there's no reason for you to make a big deal and cry over it.
@Rocketknight: Maybe you should reread my post and actually comprehend what I'm saying before you call me a bigot and a dickhead. People like you completely overreacting is exactly why I felt obligated to make these wall-o-text posts.
@mindloss: I can't tell if you're being serious or sarcastic. If you're serious, I hope you reread my previous entries a bit better and realize that verbally assaulting/insulting people simply based on a stereotype (being black, gay, or *GASP!* even from the South!) is the same regardless of what group they're bashing. In fact, your generalization that people from the South are "generally racist and homophobic" really just proves my point beautifully.
I'm in no way saying people from the south have had to endure the struggle that minorities have had to, but simply that stereotypical insults are the same regardless of which group you're insulting.
@Quipp: I agree with your statement completely. Your reaction is completely normal and justified. In fact, this in particular: I am not outraged, only disappointed. I am black and gay. I get enough crap from gamers on LIVE. I don't need the same brand of shit from developers and their marketing department. is beautifully stated.
That pretty much sums up EXACTLY how I felt (obviously under different context) when I saw EA's terrible viral marketing schemes for Dante's Inferno (It's about Hell! Lets get the Christian Fundamentalist up in arms and all pissed up to start controversy! LOL!). It's like, really? Christianity gets bashed enough on the internet as it is without some company's marketing department tossing fuel on the fire. So I can definitely share your sentiments.
Hopefully, what I wrote above makes my original goal/argument a bit more clear. I've read your other posts on this article and you make some fine points. I'm not saying people shouldn't be upset over this. Merely the level with which people overreacted was completely out of hand. You, on the other hand, don't fall under that category. #nsfw

EA should invest in new IP and revive their experimental IP like Mirror's Edge. It will pay off them in the long run.
For example, EA has created exclusive IP for xbox 360 but what about PS3? they should either go all-multiplatform or balance it out. #ncaafootball10

#nsfw
