Despite people continually dismissing the Wii, it's a great piece of hardware for both serous and casual gamers. The biggest problem is the plethora of (often full priced) terrible third party games. There *are* great games, you just have to know which ones to go for!

Single Player:
Muramasa The Demon Blade
The Conduit
Metroid Prime Triology

older but great: Twilight Princess, Mario Galaxy, Prince of Persia: Rival Swords, Resident Evil 4, Fatal Frame 4 (unfortunately only in Japanese - English translation underway!)

You know, the new Super Mario Bros for the Wii is making me finally want a Wii. That and of course Mario Galaxy. But some of these other games look really good too, especially RE: Darkside Chronicles, and Muramasa: The Demon Blade. I also want to get Fatal Frame 4 for the Wii, and the new Silent Hill game for the Wii. But now that it's gone down in price, I might considering finally getting one.

While I'm no friend to Gamestop, it does bear noting that Dead Space Extraction is 20 bucks on Black Friday.

And for you cheapos who haven't yet played it, No More Heroes is a must play that can be found easy and cheap anywhere.

You guys forgot the Bit.Trip games on WiiWare! I played the demo of Beat, and it's fantastic! I didn't want to stop playing it! So, I guess I should buy it at some point...

From what I've heard, each game has a different play style & different controls, and they're very challenging! And the price is great at 800 Wii points per game ($8).

Maybe in the future, Kotaku should do a seperate list for Wii retail games, and downloadable games. But, then, I guess you'd need seperate lists for every console.

@PSWii2008: I played Bit.Trip Void for the first time tonight - it's stupendous, especially on a nice, bassy surround system. I play the Bit.Trip series more than any other WiiWare games in my collection.

Regardng MySims Agents - my daughter has played all of the MySims games thus far, and this was the best one to date. She was completely sucked into this one for hours on end (and then after my kid went to bed, my wife would stay up to play it!). Lots of things to do, and the humor is great, and also enjoyable for adults.

Just a reminder. This isn't meant to be a list of games you should buy. It is meant to be a guide for those looking at which games they should and shouldn't buy.

If you are considering a game for the Wii, look at the list, read the review, then make up your mind.

What you shouldn't do is break our commenting rules and get off topic or start talking about whether this is news.

I think I may regret asking for a new sound card and PC case over a Wii. Looks like it finally has enough games to make it worth it.

Just off this list: Dead Space, Muramasa, New SMB, Contra ReBirth, A Boy and His Blob and Little King's Story. They all look really good.

I think I am going to break down and pick up a Boy and His Blob to play over the holidays. I was a huge fan of the original and the fact that it's getting next gen love is enough for me to finally pick it up.

I just hope I don't break any Wii controllers like I did with my old NES controllers over running out of jelly beans.

Also I am depressed, as I am just getting a PS3 for Christmas, and not much else, and I want half the things on this list as well...

The PS3 has really come into it's own and is no longer "the console that gets the crappy ports." Revel in the fact that you'll be playing Uncharted 2, Killzone, and inFamous while your friends will be exercising on the Wii Fit. ;)

@ttocs: @Fine Leather Jackets: Oh I have a Wii (and Wii Fit actually), my problem is that I have no money to buy anything, at all, and all my gifts are going to be mostly accessories for the PS3.

And I don't really have much money to buy the games myself now.

@Cptn.PaxtonAstypalaea(Corsair): For once, break sequence, the first is great, but I know a lot of people didnt reach the end as tbh, it did get a little tireing.

the second is a rollercoaster ride of pure balls to the wall action!
well, not pure action, there are like, 3 puzzles, and they take the whole of 30 seconds to complete, THEN ITS BACK TO ACTION FASTER THAN A MOTHERFUCKER!

@Cptn.PaxtonAstypalaea(Corsair): When I first got my PS3, goozex.com was my best friend. I traded in all the 360 games that I never wanted to play anymore and got old PS3 games people didn't want to play anymore. You're hopping on the PS3 bandwagon late in the game, so luckily for you, most gamers are getting rid of the big hits you are going to want to play (MGS4, inFamous, Killzone 2, Uncharted 1, etc.)

If trading on that site isn't your thing, there's always used games at Gamestop and/or trading in games.

The same real men can also afford the Wii to get in touch with their inner child. Also because they can afford a Wii, along with the PC.

360s and PS3s are for teenagers who still depend on their parents' money.

The playing as Leon and Krauser is awesome sounding. But yeah that 'scripted' event was a bit crap. Surely they would leave something like that for when a zombie gets too close to you? Look great though, unfortunatly Dead Space did so much more with 'on-rails' #residentevilthedarksidechronic...

here is the thing. Dead Space Extraction was one complete story, but I didn't so much care. I like the gameplay in RE Chronicles 1 over Extraction. Then there is the issue of the graphics, the Darkside Chronicles from the videos I have seen wins here. Sure Extraction had good character models but the water effects and bosses were sad and low poly compared to the RE counterpart.

I think it's a case of potaytoe potahtoe.

I like how you can shoot EVERYTHING in a RE on rails shooter, in dead space none of the environment responds to your weapons fire. Also you have to constantly spam that "telekenisis" button which gets really repetitive.

The weapons in Extraction were pretty uninspiring also.

It was an ok game but I really wouldn't put it above the RE games in any sense of the word except maybe that it had 1 long story. Even with that, I love the RE lore and secrets even if they are in little snippets, it makes it feel like more than one game.

Extractions story I didn't care about as much, the characters were pretty typical and sounded like they were trying to swear to be cool.

RE characters leave more to your imagination and don't try to act as much so don't fail as much with switching accents etc.
