I'd be more interested in this game if it had co-op indeed. Competitive multiplayer is cool, but sounds like it could get old fast. But co-op would keep me coming back. #deadrising2
@jgibson75: Here here! Multiplayer is fun and all, but there are a great many players that prefer co-op with a remote friend over having to listen to a prepubescent kid scream "Pawned!" every kill. Too few games now have solid co-op modes. MW2 =( #deadrising2
@jgibson75: Yep, I was only excited about multiplayer in this game because I thought it was co-op, now that it's been revealed as competitive only, I feel like I've been let down. Co-op was the only thing I thought the first game was lacking, and I figured that a lot of other people felt the same way, and voiced their opinion enough for Capcom to get the idea... I guess I was wrong. Here's to hoping the single player doesn't disappoint as well... #deadrising2
@Taggart6 once shot a man just to watch him die.: I'm with you on the co-op. But instead of having potentially idiotic AI (remember, this is Dead Rising), why not just have a spawn room (ie, closet, bathroom stall, whatever). You jump into the game and come out of the closest one to the host. Add a little customization to the main character so you don't have 3 identical guys running around and you're good to go. #deadrising2
@The Moof: The NPC would work the same way. Rather then be controlled by AI, they would wait in the safe area. When a friend wants to play, they could select one of the NPCs the host has already saved. Each would have different strengths and weaknesses that could at another layer of strategy to the game. As the host saves more NPCs there are more options for a friend on which to choose.
Case in point, it sounds like this game will have a crafting mechanic, so maybe one NPC is really strong and carry lots of stuff but can't handle firearms and weapons well. Maybe another NPC is a mall guard and has higher firearm and endurance stats put sucks with melee weapons and health. And so on and so forth. #deadrising2
@Taggart6 once shot a man just to watch him die.: I almost feel like they are intentionally leaving this feature out. The demand is definitely there. I don't want to hear any dev BS about ruining the feeling of playing the game by allowing you to play co-op.
You know what feeling I like to have when I'm playing games - fun. Playing co-op is fun. I'll take that over any other emotion the developers are trying to make me feel by facing me with a horde of zombies and redic, over the top plots. "We really want you to feel a sense of foreboding terror while you are trying to unlock the Megabuster by driving over tens of thousands of zombies"
No thanks, I'll take co-op please.
Chances are there will be people in the room watching me play at some point anyway - they might as well pick up a controller and help out instead of yelling at me to use a specific weapon. #deadrising2
@Taggart6 once shot a man just to watch him die.: Hell, just give it the GTA MP treatment. Instead of straight up co-op, which I'm all for, give us MP games where we have missions to accomplish, like rescuing survivors or collecting food...or something more imaginative than that. Something that might not have direct impact on the main story line. And make it so those game types are accessible from inside MP, perhaps through interaction with specific areas of the map and when those areas are being used for specific MP games they are off limits to everyone else.
Then there's always the option of having a Free Roam mode where the players can just run around with no limits to where they can go. This way you could have 4 people playing the mini-games while however many others the game could allow for are out and about killing off zombies to their heart's content. #deadrising2
People wanted ragdolls. They got it.
People wanted casino. They got it.
People wanted more zombies. They got it.
People wanted multiplayer. They got it.
People wanted a sequel. They got it.
I remember people used to say "I don't care what it is, just get some form of multiplayer on Dead Rising." And after getting everything else they asked for you would think they would be happy. But they are not. They want this, they want that. Since people are getting what they want they are starting to behave like spoilt brats.
Why can't you these spoilt brats thank Capcom for the hard work, money and thought they put into this multiplayer mode?
Hard work for a game that won't even be appreciated by Japan. That's a lot for a Japanese company to do.
And what did you expect? A game which has a focus of "Killing-a-shit-loada-zombies" would obviously have a multiplayer game mode in that style. Co-Op would be nice but this doesn't mean Co-Op won't exist. This looks like some fun Zombie killing with friends. Including the awesome looking singleplayer, the first games creativity and achievements. This game is my game of the year.
@Dan2593: I agree. I am glad to be getting a sequel to the first game at all, which is probably my favorite zombie game of all time. Even if the multi is fairly bare bones compared to people's expectations, at least it's there. It really didn't even have to be. The game would've stood on its own legs with no multi at all.
@Dan2593: People complain because they are the consumers. You're not complaining because you're satisfied with the product being release.
There are those who aren't willing to make the purchase because they're not satisfied with the end product.
We can all politely ask, "Hey Capcom, would you mind adding a co-op mode in your game? I would really appreciate it, and will then purchase your game," but, that won't put any pressure on the gaming industry. Are we, the consumers, spoiled brats? Or are the manufacturers just rotten parents who neglect their kids?
so far i'm not hearing about a free-roam co-op where and bunch of friends and I just drop into the Vegas strip and kill zombies. goal or not goal oriented, i just want that mode and so do many zombie game fans too - hence why L4D is so popular.
on top of that, i'm not getting word of whether or not they got rid of the entire time mechanic which seriously crippled the first Dead Rising in that you didn't have time to explore the mall and rescue people. you had to follow that sweet path through the washroom vent in order to beat it on time to then unlock the sole premise of the game which was to freely roam and kill zombies, and i bet more than half of dead risers didn't get to the true ending to do that (including me). playing through the game once or twice is nice, but to do everything you had to beat that game maybe 4 times and that didn't help with awful survivor AI (climb the fucking ledge!).
please please PLEASE capcom, don't stick to stubborn design philosphies and at least make a mode that is an enjoyable, casual experience of being in vegas with 60,000 zombies, find weapons, find hidden stuff, do hilarious things, zombie strippers, all in the company of friends. that's what my and many brain-dead zombie enthusiasts' sick dreams are made of.
i wouldn't mind paying $5 for that mode! even if it was a scrapped concept but was still left on the disc! :3!!!!!!!

@ithyphallus, lazy beareaucrat: I'm with you on co-op. I want to kill zombies with my friends ... then sacrifice them to survive ... only to become a zombie myself!
@ithyphallus, lazy beareaucrat: I don't get why people bitch about the time limit. It was one of my favourite parts of the game and it make perfect sense in the context of the story. Besides I got the true ending on my first playthrough. Please Capacom don't ruin the game for those of us who actually like a challenge.
I don't think I would play that too much. I would much rather have a free roam kill zombies however you want type of game. But no doubt that will be fun. Still kinda want to run around and kill zombies with a friend.
@TaylorEatWorld: I know how you feel, I'm a little sick of competitive multiplayer, I just want a game with an amazing co-op. Dead Rising could have been it, but oh well.
@TaylorEatWorld: same here. when i heard that Dead Rising 2 was in the works i had high hopes for a 2-4 player open world co-op. my dreams have officially been shattered...
@TaylorEatWorld: I kind of understand where you're coming from, but at the same time I think this is somewhat exciting - they could have done what was expected with this (like a co-op multiplayer run, or a deathmatch, etc), but they went in the most absolutely weird, batshit crazy direction possible.
It really suits the game, I think, and I'm glad they're taking the risk.
I'm going to make an official prediction. This time next year, there will be a new meme from Dead Rising 2. Oh, but that's not all. It will be a quote, from the new hero, Chuck. And I will even go one further.

Thats a bright yellow leather motorcycle jacket. Come on.
Unless you are currently located in the land of the rising run seeking vengeance against a small army of sword weilding thugs OR you actually race dirtbikes for a living, that is not really belong as a worn article of clothing.
