    On a more serious side, you can clearly see the two figures on the top left and right of the image are the monsters from the first game, or atleast references to them, look at the arms.

    Shouldn't the alien runes spell out alien words that then have to be translated? For example, if I Romanize hiragana, I don't get English words ... I get Japanese words with English letters.

    @jayntampa: if you pay keen attention in the original, and read the associated comics/watch the film then it becomes fairly clear that the marker was manmade, to some degree at least... And the alphabet is that of Unitologists who follow the mythos of the marker written by Altman. This is contradicted though as in the anime it says that noones managed to translate it yet, but yet, people driven insane by the marker continue to write garbled nonsense in it everywhere...

    @exion: They had no time to directly say it because everyone was busy dying from Homicides, Suicides and Necromorphs, but it was heavily implied that the Marker or the Hive Mind was responsible for the hallucinations, and the people who see these hallucinations are the people who see this language.

    Also worthy to note is that the first Marker was not man made, but rather found. The second is a replication, completely man made. The language and information held within is supposedly the key to life beyond death, and although that has basically formed the Unitology religion, I think they don't understand what it actually means, which is to say Necromorphs.

    @excaleranth: indeed, the whole religious aspect of it seems, to me at least, like a huge misunderstanding from an entire community who'd rather believe something entirely ridiculous with little evidence in support of it... kinda reminds me of something closer to home, but... lets leave that one alone.

    This is implied by the disdain the regular crew members seem to have for the unitologist "crazies" on board.

    The original Marker is still shrouded in mystery, though I suspect we'll discover more about it either through the story in the sequel... or perhaps written in the unitologist code on the wall.

    @excaleranth: Exactly.

    It's like people using Nordic runes for English ... you're really just appropriating another language. The runes in Dead Space are not human in origin. And, if it's just people writing things out in them, it's pretty juvenile.

    @deanbmmv: I see a very tasteful representation of The Birth of Venus by Botticelli depicted in creatures associated with the sea. The Zephyrs are represented as blue lobsters wielding green snappers, and the Horae represented as pelican beaks offering up... other pelican beaks. Venus herself is represented as two narwhals with a frog wielding a guitar as the famous horn.

    I just bought Bioshock, Dead Space, and Mass Effect today as part of Gamestop's buy-two-used-games-get-one-free sale. (Grand total: $39.40. Not bad, if I do say so myself.)

    I won't have time to play any of them for a few weeks due to academic stress, but I had no guarantee, when I asked, that Gamestop would be repeating this offer around Christmas. I already played Bioshock and loved what I played of that, so here's to that and the other two games.

    @dracosummoner: Excellent choices on all of those. I never sold my copy of Bioshock, loved Dead Space and have been replaying ME in preparation for ME2. Have fun with your new-used games.

    @Manuel Calavera, Reaper Supreme: Maybe, but I don't think the Cameras were all along those metal bits. Also the shape of the grill kinda suggests to me is is Supposed to be viewed through (there's a couple "holes" about where the eyes should be), suggesting that is where the camera placement would be...

    @Cptn.PaxtonAstypalaea(Corsair): They're way too thin, though, and it would make blasting legs off of skittering monstrosities pretty difficult, nevermind fixing complicated machinery on the ship (which is the suit's apparent purpose)

    Dead Space is to horror games what Uncharted is to action games in my opinion, taking heavy influences from all of the bests in each genre but making them feel fresh and exciting again, absolutely fantastic.

    I wonder if we'll be on another ship, or on a planet base this time, or maybe everything's went to shit and a marker somehow got to Earth creating an alien zombie ridden Earth... So awesome...

    I can only hope that Dead Space is longer than the first one, as I beat it in a quick 8 hours. And I'm really hoping for more variations in the enemies, different mutations & creatures and whatnot. Dead Space rocked my socks, but for some reason ... the replayability just wasn't there for me and I parted with the title not too long after buying it on the day of release. I now regret parting with it, and have been considering downloading it as it's $19.99.

    Yup same here.
    In 1st one it felt really cheap the way they simply painted "old" models black to create more dangerous xenomorphs at the end of the game.
    That didnt work well for me, it just killed some of the immersion.
    Otherwise it was a superb survival horror game. Cant wait for DS2.

    I just hope that it will stick to it's roots and not going like RE series into arcade mode, or like Silent Hill into well... shit mode.

    @Tacticalspoon: lol... I bought the hardback edition of the DeadSpace graphic novel... during the biog section in the beginning of the book there's a typo where it calls the unitologists Scientologists... I bust a nut laughing.
