Hey. Hey Mike. How about you wait to see what the storyline is when the game comes out? I'm not saying things are going to radically shift in the comic world (though it's likely the event will be over by the summer), but it seems that it would be fairly hard to follow a storyline that's happening RIGHT NOW in a game that has NO RELEASE DATE.
For instance, an unspecified title was leaked last month called 'The Return of Bruce Wayne.' I'm going to go out on a limb and say that DC probably isn't going to keep the developers of a game about their IP in the dark, particularly with bold claims about following the storyline. Or, you know, the fact that Jim Lee who does all the designs for the game is a VP for DC. That sort of thing helps a lot, I hear.
Just saying, for the sake of journalistic integrity, you might want to look into these things.
Am I the only one who would be happy if Dick just stayed Batman for good?
Partially because his tenure as Bats has been excellent so far, partially because all the changes it's brought about have been interesting and seem like they'd be really hard to undo, but mostly because I'd like to see a comic book company have the guts to actually COMMIT to something for a change.
@Thoughtwanderer: No, it won't. Especially since they went out of thier way to make sure that readers know Bruce isn't really dead, the DCU just thinks he is. I like that Dick is in the new Justice League in a few issues here. I only hope, after Bruce does come back, that they don't just have Dick say, "Okay, guess I'll go be Nightwing again." I hope they actually do something different and interesting with him.
I love Nightwing. Far and away my favorite character in comics. Love love love the costume, too.
Such a shame that DC never knows what to do with him (well, Chuck Dixon did) and usually just made him into a pussy to emphasize how much of a bad ass Batman was.
However, I hate the way they made his costume look in this game. Nightwing has never have the blue thing be a bird. It's always been that aerodynamic shape...thing.
@MR. FAP☆FAP! 。◕‿◕。: They're channeling the animated series, but I'm with you. The standard black 'n blue he was wearing for the last 15 years before he put on the cowl (again) is the best.
Grayson and Drake are among my favorites as well, and I really like what they've done with them these last few months.
@chrismoke: I heard it's pretty great anyway. Well, at least some of the books related to the events are great.
Basically, it's like this: Black Lanterns are like Green Lanterns, the Sinestro Corp, the Red Lanterns etc. Where Green is willpower, Yellow is fear, and Red is rage, Balck Lanterns are (I think) death. All Black Lanterns are dead characters in the DC comics universe (that exist on whatever Earth is the main DC comic Earth).
Some notable Black LanternS; Hank Hall (Hawk), Ralph Dibny (Elongated Man) and his wife Sue, Arthur Curry (Aquaman), the corpse of Boston Brand (Deadman) and the parents of both Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson. That last one is creeping me out to no end.
The character models look crisp but the animation/collision looks like crap. I mean, picture 8 looks like something you'd see in a side scrolling fighter - generic character model A hits generic character model B, B performs standard height impact animation.
10 is another good example, Beast Boy's running pose reminds me of one of those old games where the character's feet are animated at a rate indicating much faster forward velocity than the character is animated.
@cap-n-crunch: He WAS my favorite back when Chuck Dixon was writing and Scott McDaniel was drawing back when the book first started. It was amazing then. After that rotating creative teams really fluctuated in quality. I'm hoping something interesting happens to Dick after Bruce comes back besides just "Guess I'll go back to being Nightwing again now."
@cap-n-crunch: I don't know, I'm pretty curious about that. He's gone through a lot of mental anguish, but he hasn't really killed anyone or done anything crazy yet, so he could go back to being Robin... especially when he will probably get proven right, that Bruce IS still alive..... they could kill him though. That's solve the whole too many Robin's running around problem. Maybe make Dick into Red Robin in honor of Tim and he could be Batman's partner as opposed to just a sidekick. That could be a bad idea though, I dunno, that's why I'm not paid to write the books, I just read 'em. :)
@ShadowOdin of dubious snowiness: But, he's not actually dead. Most of the characters in the DCU just think he is. That was the whole reason DC did what they did, so the readers would know he's not dead and not feel like it was a cheap death when he comes back later.
Now granted I don't read comic books or really know where one story stops and another alternate one picks up but I remember watching a special or something where Grayson was dead and there was another Robin who took his place. I'm assuming that was an alternate storyline?
@KofreZ: wasn't that just a bait and switch, that todd was hush? But hes really not hush? I don't remember now. All i know is it better have all 12 clayfaces.
@chrismoke: I honestly dunno how they retconned it, because these characters keep dying so much they might as well put them in coffins with revolving lids.
While I prefer Marvel, I'm just happy to see a serious take on a console MMORPG. Plus, it'd be fun to take the current Blue Beetle out for a test drive.
@AlKusanagi: While I'm sure you can't play as him because of the way the game works, LORD I hope he's at least a character in the game, that'd be awesome. I'm still sad his book got cancelled. The new Blue Beetle is seriously the best new comic character in the last 10 years.
@ichiban1081: Yeah, the kid(Damian) was born WAAAAAY back in the 80's graphic novel Son of the Demon, and then dissappeared until Talia showed up with him a year or two ago. He's basically been raised by Ra's al Guhl's league of assassins and is kind of a prick. He's a hard to like character which throws a nice monkey wrench into the usual Batman/Robin dynamic, creating fun tension. Even though he's like 12 he sees no reason why he shouldn't be Batman and Dick can be Robin since Damian is Bruce's biological son. He feels he should be inheriting everything including the position of Batman. Makes for some fun back and forth between the two characters.
@ichiban1081: Oh yeah, and Bruce "died" (the DC universe aside from Tim Drake, thinks he's dead, but he's either lost in time, or living miserable lives over and over depending on what effect Darkseid's Omega Sanction had on him) in January's Final Crisis 6, while helping to stop Darkseid.
Bah! Dick's Batman now. Should be that way in this game, especially considering they have made claims that they want this stuff to be semi-canonical and fit right in with the comics and tie into the stories.
That is of course unless... Yep, Bruce will be back by the launch of this game.
Wonder if and how they'll implement Damien into the game.
@Duin: Well, they delayed Batman & Robin issue 7 because something happening is the Dec issue of Blackest Night relates to it, but has to come out first, might be related to Bruce coming back. I'd be interest in how Damian is implemented into the game as well as the comics after that as well. He's a fun character and brings some nice tension, I hope they make good use of him.
@presto117:
I'd really like to see the Sinestro Corps War story at some point in the game. Fighting Superboy-Prime AND the Anti-Monitor would be pretty amazing.
I actually just read the first 5 Batman and Robin issues with Dick as Batman and Damien as Robin. I thought it was awesome that they brought back Jason Todd.
@TJH518: Yeah, it's been pretty cool, and (as with all of Morrisons Batman stuff brining back all the old Batman continuity) they brought back the fact that he had red hair he dyed black in the old days. The red hair makes him look a lot like Rorshach from Watchmen without his mask on, and knowing Morrison's references to Alan Moore's works, I'm sure it's not coincidence.
@fearing: I just read the last issue of the year. I love what their doing with the story. Just leaves you wanting more. They can take this series in a interesting direction.
I don't like this. I'm not sure how this will work well in terms of keeping the MMO area up to date with the comics.
You're looking at alot of planning between the writers, artists, designers, programmers, and managers and etc; and this is in regards to thousands of IP characters.
I hope they are able to make it work, but I think its just too ambitious.
@Taggart6: I don't always drink beer, but when I do...: Yeah, I don't really think it's possible. I'd imagine they'll probably have various events that'll be related to comic stories, but probably comic stories that have finished up recently in the comics, or something along those lines.
@fearing: The coordination needed to make it succesful is just massive. With out a centralized system in place to funnel and monitor the overall story ideas I just don't see this working.

It's his biggest claim to fame within the DC Universe, you know, aside from that whole "Batman's first sidekick thing".

He doesnt seem to be the same Tim Drake from Batman and Teen Titans. What do you think they will do with him when they eventually go back to Bruce?

Notable exception would be spawn since he technically ia an undead.
