If you're not smart, you can get smart this weekend on Steam, and for half the price.

All of Relic's recent RTS titles - Company of Heroes (and all its expansions), Dawn of War (and all its expansions) and Dawn of War II - will be 50% off on Steam from now until the end of the weekend.

The whole thing is to celebrate the release of Dawn of War II's "There is Only War" update (which is included if you pick up DowII), but really, we're pointing this out because you can grab the best game of the bunch - the original Company of Heroes - for a crazy $7.50.

<![CDATA[Dawn Of War II Gets A Map Editor]]> When Dawn of War II's next major update - "There Is Only War" - is released sometime during the summer, it'll bring with it a much-needed feature for the game: a map editor.

Called the "World Builder", it'll allow you to "create, edit, and play" on your own maps, which you've built from the ground up. Terrain, objects, nodes, weather, the works. The World Builder will ship with a demo map, along with documentation to help get you started.

While you're stuck with the four basic terrain types from the game - jungle, city, desert and Tyranid gloop - this is free. And by the looks of it, pretty damn extensive.

<![CDATA[Dawn of War II Factions: Meet The Orks]]> This new Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II faction feature is heavy on orks and light on "Whaaagh."

The vid shows of the melee brawling style of the faction, plus some of the spiffy robotic units and vehicles the Orks are so fond of building. My personal favorite is the rocket-launcher squad — but I have to call bullshit on this vid for making it look like a lone rocket-launcher squad can take down what looks like an Eldar avatar.

The only thing that could take one of those things out is another avatar. Preferably one flanked by rocket launcher squads.

<![CDATA[Steam Offering $99 THQ (And Relic) Mega Bundle]]> 'Tis the season for giving (if you're THQ), yeah, but 'tis also the season for receiving (if you're you).

So why not take care of both impulses and treat yourself to the $99 THQ "Collector Pack" now for sale on Steam.

You'll get 13 titles - including Company of Heroes, Stalker, Titan Quest and Dawn of War - for your trouble, at a saving of $120 on their current retail price. If that makes you whimper "too rich for my blood", there are two lesser packs that break the games up: the $60 "Action Pack", which gives you four army-dude-shooter games from the Collector Pack but only saves you $5, and the $50 "Relic Super Pack", which gets you the best games from the Collector Pack (ie Dawn of War & Company of Heroes, along with their expansions) at a $25 saving.

<![CDATA[First Dawn Of War 2 Details]]> Here I was thinking Dawn of War 2 would be officially unveiled next month. I totally overlooked the possibility that Belgian magazine PCGameplay would get the scoop a few weeks early, and be the first to get me all excited over yet another must-have PC RTS. First things first: Relic are bringing some of Company of Heroes' tricks over to the Warhammer universe, with units now able to occupy buildings and also use the same kind of pathfinding and cover AI as that found in CoH. Other important tidbits: both Marines and Orkz will be getting co-op campaigns (though other races will also feature), you'll need to take better care of your men (important squad leaders must be kept alive) and the environments will be almost completely destructable. Excited? Temper this awesomeness with news the game won't be with us until well into 2009.

<![CDATA[Relic Waging Endless War On Humanity With Dawn Of War 2]]> VG247 are reporting that Relic are already hard at work on Warhammer: Dawn of War 2. Makes sense. The first - and its legions of expansion packs - are the best Warhammer games since Space Hulk, and really succeeded in bringing the franchise to life. Still, if true, the good news is tinged with a little sadness: I was really hoping Relic would be doing Homeworld 3 instead (though, hey, they might be doing both!)
