I really think the PSP 2 will see more download only games but the PSP2 needs a new hardware for the games and I say it will be the Mini Blu Ray because Sony use it in the PS3 plus Sony camcorders and so I could see it in the PSP2 plus with 15 gigs on a duel layer I could see that coming in handy.
I also think that would allow the PSP games to work in the PSP2. Plus at the same time this would be harder to crack plus harder to pirate too.
It also would be great for country's that so not have great online.
Mini Blu Ray? How much do you want this thing to cost? Manufacturing costs would be through the roof.
A much smarter idea would be to have a built-in HDD for downloadable games and sell new games on a MS Pro Duo. And they should have some kind of UMD serial code verficiation system that will allow you to download (free of charge obviously) all the old UMD games you own for your new system.
This seems like a much more likely solution than the creation of a new type of disc format and disc drive for the PSP.
What would it even matter if Koller said the PSP 2 would have UMD? It wouldn't even need to be true. Sony told us the PS3 would have two HDMI ports and a built-in router too, but nobody gives a damn about that anymore.
I agree. Obviously someone somewhere is breaking an NDA. You'd kind of think there would be a unspoken code between these guys and the hardware developers to keep things quiet in general, but like I said earlier, it's easier to get headlines by spreading rumors than it is to make a good new game.
And why in the hell would Dave Perry know? Perhaps I'm confusing him with someone else, but doesn't his guy have a history of periodically surfacing with some tidbit or rant in an effort to draw attention to himself?
Unless they give us free internet connections with every PSP bought, i dont see how they can remove UMD. Maybe a revised version, but thats as far as it goes.
On top of download kiosks (which would rock, btw), they could also theoretically releases the game on a standard CD/DVD which you could rip to your PS3 and upload to your PSP.
I know that is a longshot, but just throwing out options.

I guess things are slow over at... actually, where IS David Perry working these days? And why isn't there a new MDK following right behind him?

Or if hes only hearing it from people working for Sony, those people have broken NDA.
Either way, its not cool for him or his buddies inside.

Instant relevance can be achieved through unfounded rumor.
Apparently, that's the route Dave is taking, since it's easier than making a good new game.

Hmmm I think "Handbags at dawn." would be more appropriate.
SONY will just go into No-Plans mode.
"We have no plans to drop UMD support from any potential future iterations of the PSP."
