RTW makes Crackdown...people love it...want a sequel...
RTW makes APB people are slightly excited but want Crackdown 2 also...
RTW takes 3 years ( and counting) to make APB, declines to make Crackdown 2.
Now not alot of people really care for APB and Crackdown 2 is being made by a diff dev ( which apparently pissed off Dave Jones) and is now making another MMO no one wants....
*facepalm*...
Great business decisions RTW...great business decisions...
@Koztah: I agree that the term MMO needs to stop inherently meaning MMORPG... but I still think APB is competing with them. Even though it's a different genre, it's still (presumably) pay to play, and people will have to decide which MMO they want to give their $15 a month to.
@ShaSt One: Well it has turned out that even good MMORPGs can't seem to stand up to WoW and some have even had to close down, like overhyped Conan Online
Unless it's Crackdown Online, I couldn't possibly care less. I've played enough MMOs in the past five years to last the rest of my fucking life, and I seriously doubt RTW is going to be able to change that. =/
@Koztah: Vastly different games, vastly different experience. The only constant being the large amount of players and the subscription.
If it forces me to pay a subscription for the "privilege" of playing online with a bunch of people I will undoubtedly hate? It's the same kind of game, and it's something I'm not willing to pay for. =/
If you hate everyone, then don't play online. Or go outside. Cut off your phone. Delete your e-mail and forum accounts.
Otherwise, you're likely to find people you like in MMOs, and team up with them to hunt down and kill the people you hate in a persistent world, for everyone to see. And that's worth a sub.
Incidentally, if it's a different genre of game, it's going to attract a different crowd.
Most of your WoW raiding crowd with their 0.5 second reaction time (I believe that was what global cooldown was) isn't going to be interested in a game that makes them think and fight on their feet.

MMO = Massively Multiplayer Online
A variety of genres can go after this. RPG. FPS. RTS. Puzzle.
A game like Everquest is in competition with WoW. These are both RPGs.
A game like Puzzle Pirates isn't. It's a puzzle game.
A game like Planetside isn't. It's an FPS.
A game like Battlefield Europe (WWIIO) isn't. It's a war sim.
Likewise, APB isn't. It's an action game. In the same way that GTAIV is not in competition with Final Fantasy XIII. Different genres.
This perception that MMO = MMORPG is precisely what Realtime Worlds is trying to trash.

Only broke people.

If you want to succeed all you have to do is make a game "Like Wow, but free"

just because one game is monopolizing the market doesn't mean nobody should try making something new
that's like saying the Rebel Alliance shouldn't have challenged the Galactic Empire because everyone before them failed
speaking of which, SW:TOR will be the best MMO in history
followed by APB
followed by Toon Town Online

Shortening the abbreviation to MMO is the problem here.
APB itself is a MMOAG, not an MMORPG. So it's like saying you wouldn't want to play Planetside because you've had enough of Everquest.
Vastly different games, vastly different experience. The only constant being the large amount of players and the subscription.
