This sort of thing really makes me ponder the differences between males and females. For starters, if there are 50:50 male/female ratio in the world, why is there all this absurd competition over women that leads men to do this sort of thing? (I highly doubt if this guy would be doing this if he had a chance to score with a real woman). We see these articles about men doing desperate things like marrying mannequins and virtual girls, but if men/women were equal wouldn't we expect to see the same thing happen in reverse?
Can anyone chime in on this Love Plus game with regards to how complex the AI actually is?
Wow, you know... That's pretty damned progressive, considering most of the United States won't let you marry another PERSON if they're the same gender. :P
@NeVeRMoRe666: it seems likely, especially with the press invited thing. if it's not marketing for the game, it's almost definitely an attention seeking gambit of some kind.
I don't know how he will consummate his relationship (and would rather not) but whatever floats his boat. The sad thing is that he is dooming himself to a relationship with something that can never love him back. If he ever meets an actual women, he will have to explain that he is already married... To a video game. The divorce might get messy. Imagine, losing half your possessions to a video game. His new girlfriend might have to plot to kill her instead. How durable is a DS cartridge?
Suddenly, the chapel doors break open in the middle of their vows only to reveal another DS dating sim, a guy version, on the floor.
It shouts; "STOP THE WEDDING!!! Nene, I love you, I always have!"
The bride Nene DS stutters to her groom; "I-I'm sorry. I love him." And so it falls out of his hands and slides on the floor and out the chapel doors along with the other DS.
All of DS Nene's family side hand-helds power off in a pitiful shame.
The grooms family side seating had always been empty.
So, and this line of thinking was completely brought on by my fiancee Joy, not my original though (she forced me to say that), but, does that make every other player of Love Plus that has selected this girl committing adultery?
I explained to Joy that the game doesn't connect to the internet, and therefore doesn't communicate with other instances of the game; each copy of the game contains an identical, although separate, copy of this girl's programming.
She argued, even if they don't communicate, the digital coding, on the binary level, in each copy of the game for this girl, is exactly the same; essentially making this girl and every other player of the game who has chosen her an adulterer. Ever watch Ghost in the Shell? I'm fully aware that this girl lacks self-consciousness, but for argument's sake, there could conceivably at some point in the future arise a conflict in precedent based on this event. Discuss.
@Dallas Peterson: Twins = clones. Does that mean that if two twins get married to different people, that they're polygamists / polyandrists?
No. Know why? Because they're different people... I use the same line on clones. Clones are different people, they're not the same people. They're just based on the same stock, that's all. They'll be incredibly similar, but not exactly the same because, at the very least, their experiences are different.
As for this, this is just a gigantic joke for now. In 50 years, there will probably be legal marriages to AIs accepted worldwide or nearly so.
