Sega: Wii Is "The Most Expensive Board Game On Earth" |

Sega, I thought you had learned your lesson when you decided to address the issues which took you from #2 to zero within ten years, but clearly that's not the case at all. Don't forget, you people still can't make a new Sonic game without some wacky, stupid gimmick or some new shitty friend and the same broken camera we've been cursing for the last 5+ years.
But props to biting the hand which again has brought you more money on -one- game then when you were on your own. Now take that cheeky behavior and use it on your game development and when you can get back to the point where every single game you put out was no less then a sold 'A' title, you can talk crap.
Oh by the way Billy Hatcher was the last good platformer you put out. Remember what system that was on? That's right.

That is why I like about a lot of Wii software. You get a lot of great fun instanteounsly (especially with friends) instead of investing a lot of time to get it. (Not to say that all Wii software is like that. There are games they requires a lot of time investment such as Zelda, Okami, Metriod Prime 3 and Resident Evil 4.)Moreover you don't have to spend a lot of money. Games like Wii Fit, Mario Kart, Smash Bros., and Wii Sports you get fun straight right out of the box.
This was apparent when I was at the mall the other day where a Wii booth was set up and I saw girls, moms - people of all ages who don't normally play video games with wide smiles on their faces having fun with Wii Fit, Wii Sports, and Mario Kart Wii. If the game was Halo 3 or Resistance 2 they would have walked on by.

The Wii has good stuff. Wether people choose to actually see it or not is up to them...

I made the same mistake a lot of commenters here are have made with their Wiis, and sold my initial DS. Then I had to buy another one. I wonder how many of the people who sold their Wiis will be kicking themselves a year from now, when the really good third party games start rolling in? Because we know they're coming. Mad World, The Conduit, Monster Hunter 3, and NMH2, and that's just what I know off the top of my head.
It's true I don't turn mine on right now as often as I'd like, but look at all the games on other systems coming out. There's just too much to play, across ALL other platforms. Hell, I've been ignoring Fallout3 in favor of Dead Space, just so I can get the shorter game out of the way first. I haven't even touched LBP or Resistance 2 and today I have to add GoW2 to the pile.
I'm sorry, but saying the system is bad or a waste of time due to a lack of third party support is ridiculous. The support is coming. Unlike the Dreamcast, the Wii has been highly successful, successful enough to live through this drought of crap and come out the other side with a real game library.
And hey, if it doesn't, at least it helps me with weight control.

Don't get me wrong, my DS sees more play-time than any system I own. I'd just be cautious in making that assessment.

We are already seeing the results with the failure of EA Casual, it may be not a really huge deal, but it´s a sign of what happens when you take too much serious this all casual gaming thing.
The Sega guy has a really valid point, i own a Wii, and most of the time it could be spend on it, i prefer to use it on my 360 or PS3, same thing to my little brother, he´s 12, but he prefers to play in the HD consoles more than the Wii...

Isn't the Wii's attach rate similar to the PS3's? Doesn't that mean they're selling a whole lot of games? Because they're selling a lot of games, don't you think that Nintendo will be able to sustain their strategy?
You know, maybe you would play your Wii more if 3rd parties actually gave a damn about you and not the casual market that Nintendo has locked up for themselves on the Wii.
11/07/08
3rd parties do give a damn... they just do so via the 360 and ps3. They have more options there to grab our interest than with the wii.
11/07/08
I remember a month or two ago, one of the big third parties basically announced that they screwed the pooch on the Wii and hadn't supported it because they expected it to fail. When it succeeded, they had nothing prepared to sell for it. Now we're starting to see games like skate it, Mad World, Monster Hunter 3, Muramasa etc.
The truth is that third parties are selling better on PS3 and 360 because they have not even been trying to succeed on the Wii except with cheap bargain bin titles meant to cash in on the market Nintendo has created.
11/07/08
I came to that conclusion while watching companies like EA turn out shovelware for the wii, and Dead Space and Mirror's Edge for everything else.
And there are some third parties who don't want to be hindered by old technology. they would rather push their games forward on the vastly more powerful consoles than hinder themselves on the wiis limited capabilities.

Newer technology does not make a game fun. Accessible, easy to use controls, with rewarding gameplay mechanics make a game fun. This is not a CGI movie industry, but a GAME industry.
The old hardware is still capable of cranking out beautiful games, like Mario Galaxy, Okami etc. I prefer art design to realism. Of course, I still enjoy playing 2D games, which were supposedly supplanted by 3D. Let's hope that graphics don't supplant gameplay!

I never said anything that could lead to this conclusion. It's just the truth that 3rd party devs are eager to push forward with more powerful technology. They aren't as excited about the wii not because they can't make good games for it, but because they can't do a lot of things they can achieve on the 360 or ps3 with the wii.
Such as Dead Rising 360 vs Dead Rising wii. Devs like to look forward.

New and more powerful hardware doesn't just mean better visuals.
You can do a lot more with it, such as have a ton of effects overlapping to improve immersion, process more things going on at once, allow for more complex things to happen.

Yeah, it's like releasing Star Wars Monopoly.
"What do you mean everyone's played our board game? Reskin it and sell it again!"
