Its incredible that a gaming store could thrive in this economy. You would think that games would be among the first things cut out in these times, I know I've had trouble affording all the new releases...

@Apocalypse15: some ex-gamers have actually returned to gaming because even in times of recession.. people will still look to some form of entertainment for escape from their woes. people think "hey if i spend 30 bucks on this used game and play it a few weeks.. i save gas money and whatever else by not going out." i cant say i disagree with that way of thinking.

@Wolfers: Same here... I stopped going to one of my four GameStop's within 5 miles of my house, and started going to the Game Crazy that was just 1 mile away. That was about three years ago, and I have been working there for the last year of that time. I understand that not all of them are as bad as the ones near me, but I still don't go to them. Hopefully as the Game Crazy chain continues to grow the both trade in prices, and used game prices will get better for each chain.

@Woden501: i had the same experience 4 years ago.. i cant say that im not a little excited about the expansion to 1000 stores in the upcoming year.

I heard Funion's and Mountain Dew sales were also up for the quarter.

Some sections of the economy seem to be recession proof!

@Frologic: @Shinta: I hate to do this as I really don't like GameStop, but I must defend them on this issue. They do this because they can't trust their customers. It is simply too easy for someone to grab a case with a game in it, and walk out of the store. If they didn't pull the games out of the cases then people would constantly be doing just that, so unless you would like them to have to raised their prices even further to pay for the stolen games you need to just accept that they pull the discs out of the cases when they are displayed. It's sad that we can't trust the average US shopper to not shoplift, but you can't blame the company for trying to protect itself and its product.

@Woden501: I'm with Shinta. I just shop elsewhere for new products, that I know are new. While they might do it to protect themselves, they are trading one abused system for another. I've had plenty of friends who've ended up with scratched 'new' games.

@Woden501: i know exactly what youre talking about. people walk off with our empty cases all the time actually. so yeah.. either you have to come in the store and have nothing to look at... having to constantly ask us if we have the game. or you can come into a store like walmart and not be able to look at the back of the case if you want to see how the game looks (and yes i know most people here know because they read kotaku.. but think about the other kajillion consumers that arent nerds like us).

I congratulate them on their sales in this economy.

I wag my finger at them for their way at getting these sales.

It's a shame that big box companies like this need to pressure their customers into pre-orders and rely on Used Game sales to drive them so hard. Ackk.

@Envoker: you do realize preorders are done so companies dont order 2 million copies of a game that sells only 200k? seriously... from a business standpoint.. it sucks hard to buy a million games at $55 a pop only to sell half. each time it goes down... youre losing money.
