@DigitalHero: I actually think he died. There are names scribbled on walls inside houses with RIP all over them. I could be wrong and read into it too much of course. #grandtheftauto
That was a refreshing interview to read. Imagine, someone in the gaming industry involved with massively successful games who hasn't let that success go to their head.
Only a fan of Rockstar's GTA series, but that's enough for me. I loved IV and can't wait for V or whatever they end up calling it. #grandtheftauto
I have to admit, I'm a a little tired of GTA. The same thing has happened for me in every iteration since GTA3. I play through missions until I get a big enough arsenal to just go on rampages, and the missions are so repetitive and similar that I end up abandoning the storyline altogether. The same thing happens to me with every Splinter Cell/MGS game (since the original MGS): I read the great reviews, convince myself to buy it, and then realize a few levels in that I just really don't like stealth games.
My favorite open-world game ever? Spider-Man 2. It's a fucking crime what they did to Spider-Man 3. If they would just patch to fix the awful fucking camera, I would pick it up again in a heartbeat. I tried the inFamous demo, but there's something about an open world game that is so much better when you can just fly or swing around the city. Goddamnit, Spider-Man 2 was awesome, despite the 'catch my balloon' missions. Perfecting Spidey aerial moves while swinging around the city just never got old for me. #grandtheftauto
Can I just say that I am a Rockstar fanboy?! I mean even outside of the GTA franchise, they have created some of the most wonderful games of the past decade. I've been replaying The Warriors, and I'm still awestruck by how much I remember of it. And how wonderful it still is. Bully remains one of my top five games of the PS2, and even stepping back into Carcer City felt eerily amazing.
So to the Houser Brothers, and the entire development teams, here's to Red Dead Redemption. And Max Payne 3. I swear- those two are games that I can not wait to get my hands on. I love that feeling of eagerly savoring every released screenshot of a R* title. #grandtheftauto
@Đipic: That's odd. Vice City is also my only played-to-completion GTA. Even though the story was essentially a non-immigrant-origin rehashing of Scarface, something about that city and its excellent soundtrack kept drawing me back. #grandtheftauto
@ithyphallus, bonks morrigan: Oh, add me to the list of agreeing folks. Vice City was goofy and fun, but had a good enough plot that I was compelled to move on.
It helps that Vice City itself was a lot of fun to play around in, and that the radio was just awesome.
I reserve the title of "best radio" for San Andreas because it was massive, the classic rock was perfectly chosen, and the multiple talk channels were all hilarious. As a whole, however, I regard San Andreas as the worst game in the series.
typical for this site and other american blogs that they purposefully leave out the important detail:
GTA5 is ps3 exclsuive because of the disc limitations of the DVD and that the cell processor offers so much more for devs to make a big scale game like GTA. Houser said it himself. #grandtheftauto
In the manual for Episodes from Liberty City, there's a teaser for whatever is new in GTA. It looks like a movie poster, and it says "Liberty City, it's over!" with a broken heart filled with GTA:IV and Episodes characters. In the bottom corner, it says "Next stop..." and shows what appears to be a snowy mountainside. At the very bottom, it says "Opens March Everywhere". My guess is we'll get an official announcement about GTA: Next in March.
Apologies for the shitty iPhone quality, it's all I have. #grandtheftauto
@Glaiel-Gamer: Well to be honest I think R* still owes Sony a title. When they gave up the GTA IV DLC rights to MS they said that in exchange for that Sony would get compensation in the form of exclusive titles for their platform. I don't remember which game it is (or was) that was announced as 1 of them but unless I'm mistaken there's still one more payment left to make and I don't see why the next GTA couldn't be one of them. #grandtheftauto
@NeVeRMoRe666: Its making them money on the 360 because that's where the dlc is. If it was on the PSN they'd be making money off Sony as well. Even if Sony doesn't get GTAV outright I wouldn't be surprised if next time around Sony is given the dlc instead. #grandtheftauto
@Sparx: It's not so much "given" as it is bought. Microsoft payed them to make the DLC for them. If you're looking for a person to blame the lack of DLC on, it's Sony. Since the start of this generation, Sony has been investing heavily in their own studios and working on in-house projects, achieving great results ie. Killzone 2, Uncharted, InFamous, Rachet and Clank. I don't see Sony going away from this in the near future and consequently, I don't see Sony getting "exclusive DLC" especially when Microsoft is always more than willing to pony up.
With that said, I see the end of exclusive third party titles-GTA inevitably will be for both consoles, but exclusive DLC can and will continue to go to the highest bidder. The days of brand loyalty is dead. The price of funding and creating a game is way too high not to take advantage of all available markets, unless of course, someone pays you enough not to. It's not about owing people favours, it's about what will make you the most money.
@NeVeRMoRe666: Not necessarily. When MS paid that money R* was more or less circling the toilet. They are already in a considerably better situation now and will more than likely continue to get better and more stable until the the next GTA is released. Plus the market is still dictating a platform winner. MS has continued to see their lead slip away as the PS3 nears closer in total sales. That difference in user base could also have been contributing factor in what led to the deal. Obviously R* saw enough potential in Sony to offer compensation #grandtheftauto
@Sparx: "Could have been". But the fact of the matter is that they were paid to do the DLC. The business model for both Sony and MS differ in this regard and hence why one got the DLC and the other didn't.
Also, even if Microsoft somehow had their lead slip away, the market is not mutually exclusive. There doesn't have to be just one winner- it could be argued that all three have largely been a success this generation- the gaming industry is bigger than it has ever been. Even if Sony's userbase catches up, it doesn't make Microsoft's userbase any less impressive. Rockstar would be stupid not to take take advantage of that market, especially considering the demo-graph on the 360.
@starscar.exe: The article says they included a "likeness" - so I guess they made a saxophonist who looks like their dad for the DLC in addition to the saxophone player from GTAIV. #grandtheftauto
