Week in Games: Devil May Cry 4 Edition

We've got some good titles coming out this week ready to steal my hard earned money. Devil May Cry 4 is definitely on my list and I'm kind of curious about this Assassin's Creed game on the DS. I've been playing a bit of Culdcept Saga and found myself oddly addicted. I guess it's the tabletop gaming nerd in me rearing its geeky head again. What's on your list this week?

Contest Prizes All Around!

Chin up, contest losers! Bandai has decided to console all the contest finalists with prizes. That means that every finalist not only gets internet fame, but also a freebie. Don't expect this for future contests! Here's how it will work: All finalists will get a copy of Culdcept Saga. The top six finalists will get a signed poster (Sorry, no unsigned ones). The top finalists will get the signed posters and the signed CD. But since, we're really mean, you'll need to jump through an extra hoop to get your stuff. So, here's how you claim your loot: Count up ALL the votes for each finalist and send them to kotakucontestATkotaku.com. Don't forget to include your name and address and which finalist you are. Failure to do this by midnight tomorrow night will result in ME getting your FREE STUFF. Congrats everyone, hugs!

Finalists Too Good, Contest Tie

What. A. Contest. Talk about some incredible finalists for out Culdcept Saga sign contest. The voting was so close — too close, actually! We don't do this often (so don't ask in the future!), but it really is too close to call the winner. There are only a few votes that separate Finalist #1 and Finalist #5. Asking for a Kotaku Editor vote didn't help much either! So, tell you what Finalist #1 and Finalist #5, send me your address to kotakucontestATgmail.com, and we'll try to either A). Divvy up the prizes or B). Get more prizes from Bandai.

Nice work and congrats!

Pick The Best Sign

Voting time! We've picked ten finalists for you, Kotakuland, to select from. Now, that means voting for ONE finalist, not two or three, but ONE. Put the finalist's number in order for your vote to count. Also, dip into little Mr. Critic territory and we'll ban your ass. M'kay? The winner will get Culdcept Saga stuff that includes the Xbox 360 game, a poster signed by the game's producer Kohei Takeshige and the soundtrack signed by Takeshige and composer Kenji Ito (who worked on some big Square games in the 90's and is now part of the Super Smash Bros. Brawl composer superteam). Much love and respect to all who entered. As always, the quality of entries impressed the crap outta us. (And we're super jaded!) Voting ends tonight at midnight Mountain Time. Okay, onto the finalists and their INTERNET FAME:

Make a Sign, Win Signatures (Wooden Entry)

Don't forget! We're giving away Culdcept Saga stuff that includes the Xbox 360 game, a poster signed by the game's producer Kohei Takeshige and the soundtrack signed by Takeshige and composer Kenji Ito (who worked on some big Square games in the 90's and is now part of the Super Smash Bros. Brawl composer superteam). Reader Matthew sends this:

Sometimes in life you just don't know what game to play so I made this sign to at least give you directions as where to play them and put it up in my apartment complex. I made the sign by using a CNC mill, the hardest part was getting the depth of the companion cube edges right with the proper curvature. And the best thing about the sign is whichever way you decide to go you have chosen wisely.

Wowzers! Look. At. That. For those interested in entering, here's the contest: Make a game related sign, put it outside and take a pic. Send your entries to kotakucontest@gmail.com with the subject line "Sign." Contest ends January 23rd. For those people without calendars, that's tomorrow. Remember, even contest losers get INTERNET FAME. Think about it.

Make Sign, Win Signatures (Portal Entry)

We're giving away Culdcept Saga stuff that includes the Xbox 360 game, a poster signed by the game's producer Kohei Takeshige and the soundtrack signed by Takeshige and composer Kenji Ito (who worked on some big Square games in the 90's and is now part of the Super Smash Bros. Brawl composer superteam). Reader GcRayden sends this:

I made this sign out of a whole bunch of different pictures from google images, some from portal, some not. Although the person in the picture looks like its the one from the portal pictures, its actually from a fire sign. Most of the other icons came from portal wallpapers. After a few hours of working on this sign my girlfriend got home and we drove to the local bakery to take a picture. We were going to put it on the bakery door but then we found another, better place to put the sign, on the bakery sign in the parking lot. I thought this would be a better idea because of the message that was on the board at the time. The meaning of the sign is exactly the same of the title, applying that the cake is a lie, and if you dont listen then you might get hurt. I spent alot of time on it so I hope everyone likes it! :D

Oh we do. And we've even put another pic of it after the jump so people will know what you are talking about! So, here's the contest: Make a game related sign, put it outside and take a pic. Send your entries to kotakucontest@gmail.com with the subject line "Sign." Contest ends January 23rd. Remember, even contest losers get INTERNET FAME. Everybody wins! More »

Make a Sign, Win Autographs (Mongoose Entry)

We're giving away Culdcept Saga stuff that includes the Xbox 360 game, a poster signed by the game's producer Kohei Takeshige and the soundtrack signed by Takeshige and composer Kenji Ito (who worked on some big Square games in the 90's and is now part of the Super Smash Bros. Brawl composer superteam). Reader Shawn sends this dozy:

I call it Mongoose Crossing (go figure)

I made this sign not long After I read the original Contest post.
It was fairly easy to make, I went into Halo 3's Forge and picked up the mongoose and held it to the sun on Valhalla.

From there I used Saved Films to take a screen shot of said mongoose. Then using Photoshop I took the mongoose and applied it to my XING sign made previously.

the mongoose crossing pictures were taken in the back yard of my friends house with a Large pasture in the background. I felt the pasture was fitting due to its wide open spaces(Valhalla), and that the Mongoose is an ATV. attached are the pictures i took hope you and the Kotaku readers like it!

And thanks very much to a friend of mine named Allbowdown, he was a great help in the process of making this Sign.

Thank you Shawn and thank you Allbowdown. So, here's the contest: Make a game related sign, put it outside and take a pic. Send your entries to kotakucontest@gmail.com with the subject line "Sign." Contest ends January 23rd. Remember, even contest losers get INTERNET FAME.

Make a Sign, Win Autographs (ICO Entry)

Friendly reminder time! Reader Andy sent us along this doozy of an entry, writing:

I had no idea what to do, so I took a stroll through my games last night and saw ICO, and figured it'd go along nicely with the crossing sign. After about an hour or two on Photoshop and 45 minutes with Office Depot's worthless printing staff, I got this gem.

Protip: The language beneath the picture is the one spoken by its characters; it says "crossing".

So cool. Here's the contest: Make a game related sign, put it outside and take a pic. Send your entries to kotakucontest@gmail.com with the subject line "Sign." Contest ends January 23rd. Our memories live forever.

Make A Sign, Win Autographs

So yes, we're giving away Culdcept Saga stuff that includes the Xbox 360 game, a poster signed by the game's producer Kohei Takeshige and the soundtrack signed by Takeshige and composer Kenji Ito (who worked on some big Square games in the 90's and is now part of the Super Smash Bros. Brawl composer superteam). In Japanese, the English loan word "sign" means "signature." So here's the contest: Make a game related sign (not a signature, but a sign), put it outside and take a pic. Send your entries to kotakucontest@gmail.com with the subject line "Sign." Contest ends January 23rd. Good luck!

Culdcept Saga Demo Shuffles Onto Xbox Live

Culdcept is one of my all-time favorite PlayStation 2 titles, and next month it's getting an Xbox 360 sequel, Culdcept Saga. Quite popular in Japan, Culdcept combines the board game real-estate collection mechanics of Monopoly with Magic's monster card battles to create something I can only describe as geektastically blissful, and it will be that much more awesome when the 360 version introduces four-player online and the ability to customize your avatar with unlockable items. *squee!* It's much easier for you to try it out for yourself than for me to explain it, so clear off a good 620megs or so off of your 360's hard drive and download the demo. If you don't like it you aren't my friend anymore, and I want my lawnmower back. You've had it for months now, and you live in an apartment so it doesn't even make any sense. Freak.
