Problem A) There's no port on the back for using a Wii AV cable forcing you to fish out standard connectors. Sure most people will have some somewhere but not everyone has spares just lying around. Plus if you shelled out for Wii component cables they're a bit useless with this. Minor problem but could have been solved very easily by just extending the Wii AV plug on to the back.
Problemo B) Those Nunchuck cable wraps, those things only look easy to use if you have free space below the stand on either side (hence why the video demonstrated it on a chair). Seems like they'd be annoying to use if you had it on a flat surface (as you're likely to). Again minor problem.
At any rate I'd rather have a regular Wiimote charging stand. My Wii isn't in a place that could easily accommadate something bulky like this and I just wrap my Nunchucks wires around themselves and stick them in the drawer above the Wii.
Also Kotaku, get your tech monkey to work on whatever bit of code is removing blank lines from initial comments. Editing my posts to reinsert them is getting tedious.
@TaggarT6: Nice. I don't understand why so many companies failed to test their chargers to make sure they actually were useable. The one I have doesn't work unless you take the strap off of it and almost every one I've seen (including the one in this article) fail to take the strap into account. How hard could it be to add a small slit that the strap can go through?
Nice concept. If it's less than 35 I'll bite. :| Why can't Nintendo just release an official charger, or are they really trying to stimulate the battery economy? Utilize that USB port and get a Wii to USB adapter with a built-in Wii Remote battery. DO IT NINTENDO.
My only complaint about their ordinance is that there likely isn't a matching one for movies that are rated R or NC17. Consistency is good, and a lack of it at least raises the suspicion that this is aimed more at video games than objectionable content in general.
The ESA's freedom of speech argument seems silly, given that the CTA ought to have some right to control the advertisements that appear on its vehicles, but I'm not familiar with the legal red tape that most public institutions seem to be cocooned in.
@ubiquitous: This was my first thought, when I read this I thought of all of the busses and vehicles I've seen through the years with sexually suggestive advertisements plastered all over them. There's nothing you can find in video games (rated M) that you won't find in most R rated movies today, and nudity in video games is far less common. Just another mark on the bedpost of government and media censorship.
Tobacco or alcohol ads? Well for one thing, tobacco ads are illegal in the US. As for alcohol ads, way to dictate morality.
And when did video games fall under the same category as alcohol and tobacco? Did I miss something or is it now the Bureau of ATFVG? Are they now conducting video game raids in Chicago?
I smell another few hundred thousand of Illinois taxpayer money going to lawyers and the ESA.
Actually, the fact that we need to discuss if this is ok or not is one of the main problems why society nowadays villanize violent games this much.
Games HAVE to be treated just like any other media... so if you can't advertise pornographic movies on a bus, you shouldn't advertise M-rated/ Adult Oriented games too.
It's a very simple concept. Public spaces has to be free of adult oriented stuff because children will be around to see it.
@Bokusatsu_Tenshi: I would argue that an M is more akin to an R-rated film. Sure, don't advertise an NC-17 movie on a bus, but I would wager that they have no problem with ads for R-rated films.
@Bokusatsu_Tenshi: No thats bullshit. They can advertise R rated movies, but not M rated games? R rating is the same classification as M, it does not mean it is pornographic, or equivalent to a snuff film. How many AO games are even advertising? Seen any billboards for Virtual Jenna? So if they can put an add for 300 or The Hangover on the side of a bus, they can put an ad for GTAIV.
Kids aren't fucking ignorant, and seeing a poster of Niko Bellick is NOT going to make a 5 year old shoot his parents.
@Kocrachon: You both must now battle. IN THE THUNDERDOME!
@Kocrachon: Haha, yeah, I've had this avatar here for approximately a long time. I changed it in my profile some months back, but for some reason it never took outside of the profile... Sorry! Gir rocks, anyway.
@(Hollow) svenhoek: Kids ARE ignorant. Very ignorant. And very impressionable. That's the fear with the M-rated ads, justified or not. Get rid of R-rated movie ads and everyone should be happy.
I'd liken the family -slaughter dealio to insanity over ignorance..
@crewwolfy: Ya but its ridiculous to assume that seeing an ad for GTAIV is going to incite any type of lawless behavior, so long as the ad is appropriate. Niko putting on a glove is hardly inflammatory. The only part of that ad that people got in an uproar about is the Grand Theft Auto part, because Hilary and people on TV say it r bad. Sure its mature, and not something a child should play, but is that an excuse to limit advertising? Because it says its name? I mean fuck, the news stories on this topic showed VIDEOS of the game being played. The ads dont even show in-game screenshots!
HYPOCRISY MUCH!?
I need a fucking cigarette, writing about this shit gets me infuriated.
@(Hollow) svenhoek: The interesting part that I just thought of comes in with this snippet of the rules:"The ads cannot be legally obscene, sexually explicit, depict nudity or portray graphic violence nor can they incite lawless illegal action."
I must wonder if at some point the CTA could claim that having a sign showing some hot lady in a low cut top that says "GRAND THEFT AUTO IV" could, in fact, be considered an ad that condones/suggests/supports stealing cars?
I'm not saying I think it is an at all legit reason, but as the name of the game itself is an illegal act, promoting the game would, in at least some vague screwy terms, also be promoting the act...
Just wait for all of the ads for "Heist" to get pulled when banks everywhere get flooded by robbers...
I find it quite ironic that the CTA just a few weeks ago stated they were considering another round of layoffs and service cuts to free up some slack after incurring massive debt under the Blagojevich administration.
At the same time, us Chicagoans are here awaiting another fare hike for the most expensive "Public" transit system in the country while learning that the CTA is telling a company that wants to give them millions of dollars in ad revenue to go pound sand. I think I can call that Dramatic Irony because Daley never listens to his audience anyways right?
Rockstar needs to learn that they only way they are going to get their "Lewd" cartoon ads on CTA property is by helping members of CTA's board of directors with their Martha's Vineyard mortgages.
@Patient: I am always, ALWAYS, in desperate need to perform cunnilingus or fellatio. Its my job man, gotta pay the bills.
But seriously, every point you made is truth, and its a shame that people in positions of power are too fucking stupid/ignorant to understand this. Whats even more infuriating is that people in positions of power who do think like you, are normally out-shouted in the media, so their opinions aren't heard.
@crewwolfy: The public as a whole, or some parts of the public.... People don't have a right to limit eachother's speech either, even if the majority is against the speech.

CTA property is indeed not public, the first amendment angle is not going to fly unfortunately. Anyone who thinks that CTA property is "Public" is obviously not a Smoker, Film maker, Skateboarder, Graffiti artist, Musician, Self employed merchant of cheap Chicago memorabilia, Hungry, Thirsty, Tired, Gum chewer, Mother of a hungry newborn, Nudist or in desperate need to perform cunnilingus or fellatio.
