We didn't know about System Flaw.

That game, Nintendo DSi owners, will be the first retail release to claim the title of first DSi-only, the first to be packaged with said warning. System Flaw from Storm City Games is billed as an "innovative, action shooter" that uses the DSi's built-in cameras to" turn your surroundings into the playing environment, and your DSi into a weapon against attacking enemies."

And it hits next week, shipping to retail on October 27. Monster Finder is due until next year. My humblest apologies for the error. You'd think I would've known.

For further details on the first DSi-only game and screen shots of alien invaders attacking coffee cups, hit up the official site.

<![CDATA[Gabe Newell "Gearbox" Poker Game Was "Tall Tale"]]> The story Kotaku ran yesterday regarding the origin of a poker game deciding whether Valve's Gabe Newell or Randy Pitchford could name their company Gearbox was a "tall tale," Pitchford told Kotaku this morning. I regret presenting it as fact.

The story in question originally ran on Joystiq, which presented a lengthy e-mailed anecdote from Pitchford that purportedly answered the question of how Gearbox got its name. The story of riverboat gambling was extraordinary, and one I mistakenly took as true.

Pitchford told me today that his intent was to entertain, not mislead. I regret not trying to confirm the story with Valve before publication.

Over Twitter, he wrote: "Enjoy the Tall Tale about the Gearbox name? Read it on Joystiq and give them love! Kotaku too :)"

Apologies to Valve and you readers for presenting a tall tale as a real one. We're all for a good yarn, but didn't mean to mislead anyone.

<![CDATA[Stranglehold PS3 Delayed (Again)]]> We're not sure exactly when we'll see Stranglehold for PS3, but it's been pushed back from a soft date of September 17th to ??? within 2007.

Following rumors that GTAIV was delayed for PS3 programming issues, it brings to question, again, the merit of releasing the same games on multiple next get systems. The Xbox 360, Wii and PS3 are a pile of incompatible hardware. And something tells me that most $30 million game developers would like to see their return on more than one console.

UPDATE: Midway just forgot to attach a PS3 release date with their latest release. Stranglehold is on schedule for September 17th release.

<![CDATA[Correction: NPD Corrects Numbers, Jumps Zelda to Third]]> damnstraight.jpg

A bunch of Kotakuites pointed out yesterday when I did the NPD numbers dump for top games sold in December and 2006, that the group somehow forgot to combine the Zelda Gamecube and Wii numbers for their All Platforms list.

Well, the NPD Group must have been listening, because they just sent out a correction that not only adds Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess to the top ten, but places it at number three, just under Madden.

Top 10 Titles - December 2006 INCLUDES ALL PLATFORMS
Madden NFL 07 - Electronic Arts 1.9 mm
Call Of Duty 3 - Activision 1.1 mm
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - Nintendo 1.1 mm
Cars - THQ 874.0 k
Need for Speed: Carbon - Electronic Arts 871.6 k
360 GEARS OF WAR - MICROSOFT 815.7 K Includes Collector's Editon
PS2 GUITAR HERO 2 W/GUITAR - ACTIVISION 805.2 K Includes Bundle
Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy - LucasArts 792.3 K
WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2007 - THQ 731.6 K
Tony Hawk's Project 8 - Activision 713.9 K

Pretty impressive.

Correction 2:: NPD just sent out a second correction pointing out their first correction had the wrong number for total Zelda sales. I've corrected the item

<![CDATA[Correction: Guitar Hero 2 on 360]]>

See any wires, boys and girls? I sure as hell don't. All I see is a bleary-eyed drunkard holding the ugliest fake guitar I've ever seen, playing Guitar Hero 2 on the 360.

Guitar Hero 2 for Xbox 360 [Major Nelson]

Ed's Note: It looks like there's a wire there afterall, see it, it's right there at the bottom being all obscure and such. While the big MN didn't actually point this out until after Florian's post, I'm not sure why Florian didn't notice it. Though on first blush I didn't either. Maybe Flor has been dipping into the same G&T that made Major N so bleary-eyed. Sorry for the confusiong and here's hoping for an official wireless controller down the line.

<![CDATA[Correction: Xbox 360 Price Cut, Not So Much]]> sosorry.jpg

Yesterday, we ran a story about stores in Japan "slashing" prices on the Xbox 360. This was not the case. The price cut is in fact a standing offer for a variety of items in certain electronics stores. Sofmap, and several other stores, offer a discount if you sign a contract with an ISP, an offer that is apparently tacked on to many popular electronic goods for sale in a store.

While the Xbox 360 is available at a reduced price, it does not appear this has anything to do with how well the console is selling in Japan.

The photo used in the post was sent in as a tip, and Kotaku s Japan editor posted it using his own experience at the Sofmap store in Osaka and the wording on the sign as background.

Brian spoke with Sofmap folk a few minutes ago and was told that the campaign did indeed start on launch day and that there are no plans to limit or end the campaign anytime soon. They also confirmed that they still have plenty of 360s in stock.

We regret the error.
