You see, I believe that there is a pecking order in the food chain, and I believe that I can co-exist with other animals, while also eating animals of my choosing along with my vegetables. Biomedically, it is proven that there are some proteins that we need that are given by animals that cannot be given off of legumes and other vegetables.
In short, I applaude some of PETAs actions, and shake my head at some of their other ones.
Had PETA stuck to no fur, I would've been fine with that. But pushing the Vegan agenda is overpushing it.
In short, the KFC Video while killing my waistline would point to irony that their message dies when they become overzealous with their "animal killer" message; especially when humans equire certain proteins offered by said tasty animals.

The truth is that animals provide nutrients that humans need. You can argue that legumes give protein and that other vegetables provide various nutrients, but there are various protein blocks in meat that are not in vegetables.
The human body requires two macro-nutrients for proper nutrition: protein and fat. Carbohydrates directly responsible for a lot of the degenerative diseases that plague Western civilization, including obesity, heart disease, and diabetes.
What is a vegetarian diet typically high in? Carbohydrates. Granted, most vegetarians are healthier than the general population, if only because they tend to cut out a lot of the refined sugar and flour, thus sticking to the *less unhealthy* complex carbohydrates, which are NOT a meat product. The human body prefers the types of fat and protein found in these animals.
Another problem with vegetarianism, and especially veganism, is that it tends to be low in fat. The human body absolutely needs fat more than any other nutrient, and yet vegetarian culture (and mainstream nutrition for that matter) seems to hate fat. On top of that, the fat that vegetarians tend to eat, like soybean and canola oil, is completely unhealthy to the human body.
Aside of which, it is still tasty chicken, and it is still a propaganda film that I will enjoy watching, while eating said tasty morsels.
In fact, I think I will order some now :)

Who's "proven" that? Doesn't it go against those "proofs" that there exist lifetime vegetarians and vegans who have enjoyed very full, active, and productive lives & who's lack of meat consumption has had no detectable negative effect on their bodies, minds, or quality of life?

Protein and fat can be found in the plant kingdom. And you're right; not all carbs are created equal. It's the same with fat. olive oil is much better than animal fat. Every nutritionist knows that. Don't pin heart disease on simple carbs when it's cholesterol that's clogging everyone's arteries.
If you eat a wide array of vegetable proteins, you fill in any gaps and your cells use the material to synthesize complete proteins. You're just cutting out the middle man, er, cow.

That is your opinion. :) And I have mine. The question I would have would be that if you really do think you are superior, would you feel that way if we were both stranded somewhere in the same place at the same time?
My choice of nutrients happens to be more than yours, regardless of whether or not we were stranded. I get my nutrients more easily than you do, and I am fine with that :)
I also am not the stereotypical obese Omnivore that PETA plasters pictures of, as I carry a pretty healthy physique.
One of the flaws I find of the flaws I find of the Omnivore Vs. Herbivore arguement:
In herbivores, the food takes longer to digest, and hence it remains in the digestive system longer. This means a longer alimentary canal, longer than humans have. Herbivores also move slowly, and a good example is the comparison of speed between the omnivorous chimpanzees and other small monkeys and the herbivorous gorillas and orangutans. On the one hand you have lean fast moving machines, while on the other you have large bellies and slow moving larger animals. Check out cows and sheep and compare their body fat with ours. Nor are we like herbivores.
I can understand if you are a cow or sheep in a herd making your arguements as a Vegan.
In comparison:
Our teeth and intestines are those of omnivores, the teeth designed for ripping and tearing meat, and stripping leaves from trees, but also for grinding grains, and our intestines are something between the long and the short. People are able to eat and live on every type of food imaginable from brains to intestines to leaves to roots to ants and grubs.
WE ARE OMNIVORES. And as an Omnivore, I still get my natural fats and B12 and Omega-3 oils
It really amazes me how we try to reduce humans to this binary division: vegetarians and carnivores. We are neither. We are omnivores. We have choices. Our cultures had seasonal and cultural attachements to what we ate. We have now succumb to corporatism and fanaticism for our food notions. We have abandoned our roots to food. We have demonized it and we have commodified it.
Here are some nutrients that Vegans would have a hard time supplementing:
Vitamin B12
Vitamin D
Retinol
C20-22 polyunsaturated fatty acids
You're right though: I don't have to consume ALL of the animal to get ALL of my proteins. I easily recieve all of them though, from all the different kinds of meats that I enjoy eating; along with my vegetables :) (Again, I am an Omnivore.)
The only scales I see sliding are the proponderance of promoting strict Veganism, which still promotes malnourishing certain nutrients from what would otherwise be a healthy body.
You can't save everything, and people will still eat tasty animals.
So think you are superior :) I think it's awesome that the nutrient deficient feel good about themselves :) Meanwhile, this well-balanced (and well fit) Omnivore is going to continue eating said meats :)

quasi-ignorant manner on "Meat is awesome"? It is a more natural means to get said proteins and nutrients when added with vegetables. I don't knock vegetables, but will say that without (or at least the difficulty) of maintaining these nutrients: Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Retinol &C20-22 polyunsaturated fatty acids, that it'd be hard to say that you are fully nourished.
Olive oil vs. Animal Fat: Yet another red herring. The basis used in the articles you pulled from are on the basis of prep cooking. (Olive Oil Vs. Crisco). In any rate, I still will say that Animal fat in meat is still a healthy way of living.
Besides, they sure are tasty! :-p

Listen, I'd have nothing wrong with PETA if they were just an organization trying to get awareness out of animals being treated unethically. HOWEVER, I have no respect for an organization that is so far up it's own ass that it can't see that killing people, terrorizing people, is a whole lot different then the treatment and killing of animals.
For god's sake, if you're a self respecting vegetarian/vegan I'd get myself as far away from the folks PETA as I possibly could and start trumpeting a worthwhile organization that has enough decency to respect human life as much as an animal's.

As an 9-year vegetarian that does not support PETA, I sympathise with everything RatsOffToYa has said.
Meanwhile, Kotaku fuels the fire by putting up these hot button issue posts on a weekly basis because they've seen previous articles on these subjects lead trails of hundreds of comments (which lead to advertising dollars.)
I have never had a rational discussion with a meat-eater that ended with them convincing me that mean eating is necessary, or even that it is good.
The "instinct/evolution dictates my behavior" arguments are bunk. The "fat/protein source" arguments are bunk. The "dominion over lesser beasts" arguements are bullshit, and anyone who feels that way should be ashamed of themselves for having allowed society to have robbed them of their compassion.
The only argument you have left is "no one's gonna tell me what to eat," to which I say "grow the fuck up."

I really think it's because it's easy to support them. Because they're the only people you have behind you and it's easier to just go along with what they have to say and do.
Which, I think, goes against the whole idea of vegetarianism. Doing the harder thing because it's the right thing to do. Which makes you seem even more the hypocrite to me if you support PETA.

I guess I just get heated because I've had a lot of vegetarian friends, and all power to them, but we would get in to arguments.
My whole thing, why I never did it, if I believed in the cause, was that I would have to go Vegan, because I think vegetarianism is a cop out. And, I know I couldn't survive as a vegan.

Here's one huge fact to consider before even considering that humans aren't meant to eat meat. HUMAN BEING HAVE INCISORS!! Hello!! Look I love animals. My cats are closer to me than my own family. I would do anything to protect them. I do not support animal testing facilities that have inhumane conditions for their animals. I do not support whaling as whales are quickly becoming extinct.

People have teeth? Good now we can eat. But doesn't mean we HAVE to eat animals is all I'm saying. I've been vegetarian before and I'll go vegetarian again later probably. It's not about just stopping eating meat altogether but it's good to atleast try and minimalise the killing of animals SOMETIMES out of respect.
I don't see the point in your argument either, basically we kill cos we can and cos animals do. But animals also fight eachother and kill there own species for mates so now are the police out of line to stop me killing people because animals can do it you know.
animal research rarely gives the same results it would on humans so it's pointless. No animal research is humane as testing drugs with bad side effects damages them and keeping them locked up in small cages with nowhere to move around is inhumane,.
I never condoned it if you read my posts. I just said I see why it happens and people should understand it too. We kill animals by the millions yet a few people deaths makes us act like PETA are worse than what we do.

What is your justification for a lion eating a zebra? How about a wolf tracking down a deer? Those heartless gators that sneak up on poor innocent water buffalo should be put on trial as well.

They don't need justification as they can eat animals but that's because they are animals and not quite as smart. But just because they're not as smart doesn't mean they are inferior or are you saying smart people are superior to regular intelligence people?
actually I do, we kill animals and take advantage of them (even have them as pets just to make us happy) because we view them as inferior. If I had a pet human people would go ballistic (and I know it's not appropriate). Face it your basing your views on hypocrisy though, we can kill millions of animals but a human dies and we need revenge (but not for the animals).
I'm not with any group, it's you who's been brainwashed by society to believe everything in society is right. We have corrupt governmants, mass slaughter of animals, wars for oil and yet I say I can see why peta kills people (because they kill millions of animals) and suddenly I need my head checked. Whereas every species on the planet weeds out the sick and weak, we hold ours back and send our healthiest out to kill each other.
While other species are able to exercise the conecpt of "natural order" when hunting and gathering, we see people who seek to cut off the populace from a major food source.

I know that PETA can be a little extreme some times but they do a lot of good for animals and animal rights. Animals don't have anybody to defend them and are treated so badly. If you all only knew the horrors that go on in the food processing plants it would make Res. Evil and Silent Hill games look like Ravin Rabbits.
So as a PETA member and Vegetarian, you guys should show some compassion. No one is hurting you by trying to stop the cruelty degraded towards animals.
They're {and I} just trying to make the world a better place to live.

I can't say I agree with PETA at all. They want more ethical treatment of animals? That's all well and good, but what's the point if they're to be killed anyways?
They want everybody to stop eating meat? Screw that. Eating meat is an instinct, not eating meat is a choice.
There are a lot of whackjobs within PETA (you may not be one of them). It's known that PETA sets up a lot of acts of animal cruelty for their use as shock material.
Plus, do you recall how they actually suggested people to eat whales instead of cows, chickens, and pigs? I thought it was a joke or a dream... but it was real.
