First up is “Characters you never knew had the same voiceover” from GamesRadar. Charlie Barrat lays out 21 examples of voice actors doubling up dubbing duties. Most of them I knew about – Princess Peach & Cortana, Marcus Fenix & Bender, etc. – but a few of them really surprised me. Like Princess Daphne and Smurfette being voiced by the lady that plays evil stepsister Anastasia in in Disney’s Cinderella. Who’d’ve thunk?

Charlie’s piece points out a similar feature run by Gameplayer, which lists the voices behind a ton of video game characters. “70 Great Game Characters Unmasked” makes for heavy reading at six pages of lists a pop, but I’m pretty sure it covers every video game voice I’ve ever heard in my life. Not counting games that let you play with the original Japanese audio.

My all-time favorite voice-over actor, though, has got to be Cam Clarke. Trite, I know – but he was both Leonardo the Ninja Turtle and He-Man Kaneda in the original Akira dub, very huge heroes of my childhood. When I hear his voice, it fills me with love even when he’s playing Solid Snake’s evil twin brother.

ETA: Whoops, wrong He-Man. John Erwin was the He-Man from my childhood. Cheers to James for pointing that out, and please don't ask me why I was watching Akira when I was six.

<![CDATA[Condemned 2 Ads Get Banned ]]> UK watchdog group Advertising Standards Agency has outlawed two SEGA Condemned 2 ads for being "brutal" and "realistic". The ads were in the post-9pm and post-11pm time slots and received nine complaints — with three stating that the ads were "inappropriate for broadcast at any time". States the ASA:

We noted in particular that both ads showed a man punching another on the floor and blood splattering on the screen as a man was beaten with a club and considered viewers were likely to find those scenes offensive and distressing and to see them as condoning real violence and cruelty.

It only takes nine complaints for ads to get banned?

<![CDATA[Zero Punctuation Reviews Condemned 2 (And Indigo Prophecy)]]> This week, Yahtzee officially reviews Condemned 2. And that's great. But then, in the heat of passion, he breaks into a mini-review of Indigo Prophecy. Plus, if you really think about it, there's actually a good amount of rhetoric on the original Condemned, too. So you are actually getting like 2 to 2 1/2 Zero Punctuations this week. And it's all coming at you for a low, low price of just $100 an episode. Oh, didn't you know? Then you're fucked, man. But at least you get some steak knives (for only $8.95 S/H).

<![CDATA[What Are You Playing This Weekend?]]> The FedEx man and the UPS man stopped by not too long ago to drop off what I'll be playing this weekend. I'll be enduring my share of bums and corpses in Condemned 2 for the Xbox 360 for a good portion of the weekend, hoping to provide my thoughts on Monday. I've also got a copy of Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword to try out, which means I'll have to bust out by old Nintendo DS. Still haven't shipped off the DS lite to be repaired.

That's all I'm signing myself up for. How about yourselves? What are you playing this weekend?

<![CDATA[Condemned 2 Trailer]]>

Condemned was one of the first games I got for my 360 a few years ago and to be perfectly honest, I wasn't terribly impressed. As a matter of fact I sold it back to the store only a few days after purchasing it. Perhaps I should have given it another chance, but I had already moved on. This new trailer for Condemned 2 however has piqued my interest and looks to be much more up my alley. Hopefully the gameplay will be a bit more interesting than the original.

<![CDATA[Condemned Movie Not Dead Yet]]> Details are scant on the Condemned 2 movie tie-in The Unforgettable. The movie was first announced in Variety back in 2005. Scribe Kurt Sutter (pictured) was roped in to pen the move, and at the time he said, "I'm a big gamer, one who feels that, in the last five years, some of the smartest and most innovative ideas have come out of the gaming world." Not many details have surfaced about the film recently, so game site Sega Nerds contacted Sutter, who said he just closed another deal to do a big script rewrite. A director, he said, is attached and will be announced at a later date. What's more, Shutter adds:

But the project is very much alive (especially after the surprising success of THE 300). In the world of features, a few years to get something into production is the norm... There will be some parallels [to the game], but it is not a movie BASED ON the game. It's INSPIRED BY the same source material.

I do like the idea of a movie being based on a game, rather than a game being made into a movie. That seems like a better approach.

<![CDATA[Condemned 2: Bloodshot]]>
Crecente hit everyone with a doozy of a Sega Gamer's Day update yesterday by oh-so casually mentioning that Sega would be releasing Condemned 2: Bloodshot out for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 before making like a banana and splitting.

Details about what will entail Condemned 2's 2008 arrival focus mainly on plot:

Players will assume the identity of Ethan Thomas, the former Serial Crimes Unit investigator, who's been called back to duty to track down his missing partner. As Ethan, players will engage in visceral combat using a variety of firearms, blunt instruments and an all-new fighting system complete with defensive and offensive combo chains. To help track the killer and solve the mysteries behind Condemned 2: Bloodshot, players will crack open an all-new set of high-tech forensic tools. Using wits and brute strength, murders can be solved in a number of different ways to keep players guessing throughout each suspenseful investigation.

Plus, Condemned 2 will also have an online multiplayer mode where these CSIs and other characters can beat the forensics out of each other. What could be better than that?
