RE: iTunes card... In Canada (I know, same old sad song) Apple does not allow you to spend card credits on apps.

I had a card that I never used for songs and figured now that I have an iPod Touch this would be the perfect way to spend it. I thought the point of the cards was to be "as good as cash." Nope. And a careful read of the TOS revealed that I should have never expected it to. Even though it is there in carefully crafted black and white legalese it still begs the question why.

It is beyond belief really, since there is no legislation in Canada that would prevent Apple from allowing the cards to be used towards apps. Don't you like money Apple?

Why, oh why, is Canada constantly being techno-capped? (Netflix, last.fm, Pandora, Hulu, higher game pricing even when exchange is at par...)

@Quipp: Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that they recently changed it so that you could use iTunes cards in the App Store.

A while ago, I had a pretty traumatic experience before involving a gift card, an iPod Touch and my girlfriend. Dicey stuff.

@Gaseous_Snake: I tried just this week to purchase a bunch of .99 cent apps after adding an card to my account but the purchases all came off my credit card instead. I researched around and I don't think Apple has changed their mind about this.

Here's a recent article about it. The government official's letter/response stating that there is no legislation preventing Apple from allowing it is shown in the article.

@Quipp: Sorry about the double post, but on the App Store on your iPod, if you scroll all the way down to the bottom of the main Featured page, there's a little "Redeem" button and all sorts of things about redeeming iTunes gift cards and etc.

HAVING SAID THAT, I have not tried it myself and I have not read any documentation that refutes your research.

    So basically, I've solved nothing.

Nice to see some Infinity Gene love. It truly is a great game with good controls.

My only complaint would be the music. It's okay, but it's not Space Invaders Extreme.

@Twik63: The entry price is 100 bucks for an iPhone (plus the plan) and 200 bucks for the iPod touch... not that i would recomend any of those.

I would say the real price of entry is 200 (16GB) and 300 (32GB) respectively, to have te faster ones.

I hate to be "that guy", but this list is just awful. Lots of obvious, commercially-known PC and home console titles that don't really translate all that well to the iPhone. Aside from Space Invaders, Rolando, and Zenonia, the rest of the list is questionable at best.

Apologies for my own long list of alternatives here, but there are many far-superior, iPhone-friendly titles out there: (HookChamp, Orbital, GloBall, Steel Sky, Baseball Superstars 2010, Flight Control, Earthworm Jim, HiHowAreYou, Meteor Blitz, DrawRace, Minigore, BackBreaker Football, Spider: Bryce Manor, Monster Pinball, Cocoto Kart Online, Fore!, Knights Onrush, Robocalypse, Canabalt, Soosiz, Inkvaders, MelonGolf, Submachine, JellyCar2, Nick Chase, DoodleJump, MicroPool, Squareball, Mystery Mania... to name a bunch).

Also, not sure why Streets of Rage is up there, when you openly admit it's pretty-much crap.

@sandwiches: actually, as much as i hate the virtual controls, i was pleasantly surprised to be entertained by resident evil.

doom resurrection and mgs touch? not so much.

also, the asphault games arent half bad either, and star defense is really fun and one of the first tower defense games ive liked (i mostly hate them because there are too many for the iphone/ipod touch).

the rest you either agreed were good (as do i) or i havent played.

Finally getting MGS Touch. I know it will disappoint, but its still 99c I just cannot see myself not at least enjoying it a tiny bit.

Did Kojima have anything to do with it in the slightest? Or is it a straight up cash in? Oh well, downloading now...

@Female Orca: Not a cash-in, it offers more to the tap-and-shoot genre. Think of it as Time Crisis with better graphics and no real time limit. You can also go into sniper mode to hit more distant targets and pick up power-ups to regen health and temporary invulnerability. Perfect port of sounds and music from the game too.

Mecho Wars should definitely be on this list. At $0.99 (or free), it's the best game in terms of value I've ever bought. Mecho Wars is a turn-based strategy game along the lines of Fire Emblem or Advance Wars, but I've enjoyed it a lot more than any installment in either of those series. It has great single player in addition to multiplayer. Check it out!

So, mind clearing up a point from the earlier article.
You can only buy iTunes gift cards right?
No "Give the Gift of Game" service like what Steam does for its DD?

Cos if it's iTunes card's only that's mega lame. Cos all you can do is juts nudge folks in the direction of this article with the little enveloped with a $20 piece of plastic in it.

i think the iphone/ipod touch have lots of potential as game devices, i mean if i were apple.. id slap real controls on the touch and sell it as a standalone gaming device. with controls, itd definitely be a better gaming device than an mp3 player.. i wouldnt have bought mine if i wasnt a fanboy of all things gaming (and mobile games suck on my blackberry lol).

I don't own an iPhone, but I was considering asking for one for my birthday next february - I quite like them, but have always been held back by their O2 network exclusivity (my parents are wierd about phone providers and haven't strayed from Orange since their very first phones). But now they're available on Orange, i'm noting a few of these down as possible purchases. They look interesting to say the least!

Am I right in saying iPod Touch games also work on an iPhone, and visa versa? I only ask because I was interested in Star Wars: Trench Run, but i've only seen that touted as an iPod Touch game, and that's another I'd like to add to list of potential iPhone games.
