Fallout 3 Collector's Edition In The Flesh

Bethesda has posted the official contents of their Fallout 3 Collector's Edition package, leaked and confirmed in April via GameStop, and while everything promised is indeed represented, from lunch box to art book to making off DVD, but there is something different about the Vault Boy Bobblehead. Rather than the approving, thumbs-up tossing bobble I received back in July of last year during the press preview, this Vault Boy stands in judgment, arms folded across his chest as he weighs your worth and finds you joyously wanting.

This of course means that the thumbs-up bobblehead could still be auction viable, should some unscrupulous member of the gaming press choose to part with him. Unfortunately I've grown accustomed to the daily affirmation my little plaster pal gives me, so for now he stays on my mantle lovingly nestled between Cortana and Kos-Mos, as he should be.

Fallout 3 Collector's Edition To Reach Everything And Everyone

Bethesda has gone ahead and officially confirmed the Collector's Edition of Fallout 3 that leaked last week. But they added a good-news-cherry-on-top to fans. The Collector's Edition will be available for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC, and it will be available worldwide without retailer restrictions. While Bethesda still hasn't announced a price, GameStop reckons it'll run you $80 on the consoles and $70 on PCs. Will GamStop be right? Will the Dynamic Duo escape the treacherous tank filled with half-opened, M-rated games? Tune-in soon to find out! Same Kotaku time. Same Kotaku channel.

namco bandai editor's day

Namco Bandai Editor's Day: More Soul Calibur IV

As we previously announced, the big news out of yesterday's Namco Bandai Editor's Day was the announcement of a street date for Soul Calibur IV: July 29, 2008. Also announced was a special Collector's Edition will be made available on the same date for both the 360 and PS3 versions. The Collector's Edition will come in a tin box and includes an art book, a t-shirt, a poster and exclusive access to downloadable content only available in this special edition. Announced at the same time was the news that the Original Soul Calibur will be making it's way to XBLA.

SC IV was on display for everyone to check out, but much like McWhertor's experience at GDC, there were only a limited number of characters to play with. My choices were a bit different than McWertor's however as I got to pick between Taki, Cassandra, Seung Mina and Hilde. I took Cassandra in hand and roundly bested my opponent (who's name I will leave out to save them embarrassment, but You know who you are!) in three rounds. I was also able to check out a little of Hilde and her shiny armor before i had to give up the controller to the next journo in the long line. I really like her fighting style and plan on exploring them more extensively when the final release happens. Something tells me she will be in my regular roster along with Ivy.

GameStop Details Fallout 3 Collector's Edition

Dammit, I knew I should have hit up eBay earlier. GameStop has the details on the collector's edition of Fallout 3 due out this fall, and some of the contents look rather familiar. For $20 more than the normal edition ($79.99 console, $69.99 PC), you'll be receiving the much-coveted Vault Boy bobble head in all its encephalitic glory, a hardcover Art of Fallout 3 book, a Making of Fallout 3 DVD, and the game itself. All of this comes neatly packaged in a completely customized Fallout 3 lunch box, which I now have in both broken and non-broken varieties, thanks to the lovely folks at Bethesda. This is one collector's edition that seems well worth an extra $20, unless of course you already own half of it.

Stranglehold Collector's Edition (PS3) Is $40 On Amazon

Amazon has a nice deal going on Stranglehold Collector's Edition for PS3. It's just $40 if you order today (which is $30 off retail). Some of you may remember this as the version with a Blu-ray movie of John Woo's "Hard Boiled." And some of you may also remember that the movie was original region protected, but Midway gave and made the movie region free after fans complained.

So in other words, this deal may be decent for our UK friends as well (and even you Ash, to pick up while you're in the States). It's odd not to hear from Ash in his night notes, isn't it? Not that Luke "kangaroo boxer" Plunkett isn't great, but I for one am eagerly awaiting the tales of Mini-Bash experiencing Tex Mex cuisine, American Santa and buxom Texas ladies.

The Assassin's Creed Collector's Edition Figure: Now In Full Color

A few weeks back, our good friend Cheapy D revealed that the Assassin's Creed Collector's Edition would include a nice little collectible Altair figure. Unfortunately, all we had at the time was a simple black and white photo. But thankfully, German website cynamite.de has gotten a nice color photo of the whole set for us to check out, although truthfully, his outfit is mostly white anyway. I love that these collector's editions are getting more and more elaborate. Pretty soon they'll just come with a little game dev inside to help you through the game. More »

Unreal 3 Collector's Edition Detailed

I have long not been a fan of collector's editions, but in general it doesn't really hurt anyone. Typically the collector's edition of a game comes with a better case, maybe a little figurine or poster or somesuch. The only time I'm really annoyed by the concept of multiple versions of a game is when one version comes with more bits of the game than the other, like extra maps or such.

Fortunately, the Collector's Edition of Unreal Tournament 3 for the PC doesn't fall into that category. Their CE version comes with a ten hour video tutorial about game mods, a history of Unreal Tournament and behind the scenes stuff for the game. The history and behind the scenes stuff don't really interest me, but it's really quite clever of them to pack in a tutorial for modding, since that's what usually keeps their latest version of the franchise alive for so long.

The PC LE version will sell for $60 starting in November in the US, Europe, South Africa, Australia and most other territories.

what's in the box!?

Tabula Rasa Collector's Edition Revealed

NCsoft loves their limited collector's editions, so it comes as no surprise that Richard Garriott's Tabula Rasa will be getting the full LE box treatment when it comes out this fall. Players who opt for the expensive edition will be treated to three special in-game status items: a spacial emote, exclusive die recipes for armor tinting, and a unique pet, all suitable for selling on eBay for exorbitant amounts at a later date. Also included is a briefing from the recently promoted General British, classified maps, an Allied Free Sentients field guide, dog tags, a limited edition coin and a poster. Now how much would you pay? But wait, there's more! Act now and you will also get a special 'making of' DVD you will never, ever watch. Click the image above for a closer look, and hit the jump for a pic of the box that will be sitting on my bookshelf neglected for years to come! More »

Ultimate Civilization Collector's Pack Announced

I'm not a huge fan of collector's editions. Usually they seem to be just some extra art, maybe a book, a DVD of stuff you don't care about. But I can actually see some real value in the Civilization Collector's Edition that Take-Two just announced. More »

Gears of War Collector's Edition Booklet Scans

Although Gears of War won't be available until November, when Microsoft hopes it will deliver a hay maker straight to the crotch of Sony's Playstation 3 launch, the cheese sniffers over at XBoxygen somehow managed to get their escargot begreased hands on Gears of War's Collector's Edition booklet, and there's a lot of beautiful art, enemies, weapons and details to oggle. There's no word yet on whether or not the booklet is limited to the Collector's Edition, or if it will also be available to you cheap plebs. More »
