At least it doesn't feature exclusive areas and party members like the Dragon Age CE does. I think that's when things get really criminal. Of course there will be some inevitable reply claiming this is just business, or whatever. I'm just saying it's a huge turn off as a consumer.
Game content that is reserved for a special edition makes me want to opt-out of this whole industry sometimes. I can't believe I have to pay more to experience a game with all the content it has at launch. Again, I'm sure someone will say "you don't have to buy it" or something trite. This is inevitable, and misses the point.
@Swift_: Shale and the Warden's keep are not exclusive to the deluxe edition. They are included DLC that you can buy seperately.
But to buy them seperately will pay more than if you had just gotten a deluxe edition.
I am not the biggest fan of EA but in this case I think they did the right thing. It is nice they gave people who bought the standard edition the option to buy the DLC included in the deluxe version.
I like the idea of collectors edition because at least you get more content and extras for paying more. The alternative would probably just be the cost of standard games being raised with nothing extra.
Otherwise your point seems to be that stuff costs more than it used to. #masseffect2
@Nulls: Shale isn't even CE exclusive: all copies bought at launch come with it. You could technically get all the important stuff (Shale and Warden's Keep) for less than the price of the CE. #masseffect2
I've been putting off beating the first Mass Effect for so long, but I've finally made an effort to get to the end and now I'm almost there.
Although doing Noveria at level 40 was a mistake.
Still, at this rate I'll be done with Mass Effect this weekend, can power through Dragon Age and when Mass Effect 2 comes out I'll be ready to enjoy this collector's edition.
@TrjnRabbit: Do yourself a favor and DO NOT power through Dragon Age. Bioware put a hell of a lot of work into creating an incredibly rich world, and despite being only a few hours in, the time I've taken to explore, read, and talk to people has really made me appreciate the game so much more.
If it and ME2 overlap schedule-wise, then you'll just have to deal with choosing between two superb experiences. #masseffect2
Playing through Mass Effect, for me, was reminiscent of watching the original Star Wars trilogy when I was 8 or 9 years old. Being taken to such a fantastic universe (our own!) and exploring and being empowered through my abilities and my choices. Ah! I get giddy just thinking of it all.
Mass Effect stands head and shoulders above all other RPGs as my favorite of all time. The setting, the rich history, the characters... it all just meshed with my own personal interests and I can't think of a better game to splurge on a CE than the sequel.
Plus, it doesn't hurt that cover art is the most badass I've seen in ages. #masseffect2
I'm definitely getting this; art books are always great. Also a deal as I was going to pick up the comic book as well. The one thing I *hate* though, is the fact that the unique in-game armor and weapons will be a stupid 1-time only download from using a redeem code. You accidently delete this content from your hard drive, you can never get it again. I understand this is a money saving strategy to just have the user download it...I'm just saying that I like to have things for keeps. That's why I never downloaded Fallout 3 downloadable content and just waited for the GOTY edition so I could always have it on a disc. Just saying. I'm still buying this limited edition. #masseffect2
I usually buy CE versions of crap anyway (Im a collector, and a sad nerd), but man, even if I wasn't, that box art would sell me. That shit better be final. #masseffect2
See after Jason got a film in space, he's been dying to get some space action too, and EA wanted a movie star in the game to attract a different audience, so... #masseffect2
When I first got to the Kotaku main page I saw the thumbnail version of the image, and my first thought was "another racing game?" Something about the cover just made me think racer.
Nice cover art though. I guess I should play through the first to understand its significance. #masseffect2
Sounds like a deal to me. These limited editions are just great for hardcore fans. Shit, I'd buy the art book alone if I had to. I always love game concept art, and for a game I love as well? Deal. #masseffect2

Any word on a PC CE?
Cos that case looks pretty spanking.
I always like the behind the scenes stuff too n artbooks the like. Its why Uncharted scores so highly for me as its all on the regular game. #masseffect2

Just go to your 360 download history. You can get anything again right from there - even stuff that is no longer listed in the Marketplace I believe.
The only problem would be if you've switched Live accounts AND consoles. #masseffect2

I'm starting a petition and boycotting this game.
Seriously, water won't collect on armor like that in space!!!
OMG, what are they thinking?! They're ruining the franchise!!!
Soooo angry....
PS - who is Shepard fighting that would leave marks like that, Wolverine? Uhhhhggg....
