I'd only get excited about this if it was a more realistic rally game that didn't include the shitty other vehicle racing and made it so the cars don't pivot around the centre of themselves.
Dirt 1 was alright but those floaty physics just ruined it after a while for me.
Is it just me or was there more real life footage than in game footage? And no, the graphics aren't THAT good for me to be confusing the two. It seemed equal, but the more I saw the more I was thinking "they're just taking tv footage" Maybe I'm just not thinking properly, all that horrible music caused a lot of blood to be pouring out of my ears.
That's not to say that this game won't be good, it's just rather concerning when the PR department decides it should show you real life more instead of in game. Makes me think I should just take up real rally and not buy this game...
I'm not as much a racer as my dad, but god damn I dunno what to do. Save my racing game quote for GT5, or get this.
Still there both bound to be better than "PhysX, whats that?" FUEL.
@deanbmmv: Well I'm sure if you put that money you're hiding away for GT5 into a savings account, the interest you'll get on it before it comes out should net you at least another game or two!
@deanbmmv: I'm with you man, Dirt 2 was almost a definite purchase for me, (seeing as its the only worthwhile console rally series) but when I saw that little WRC logo on the GT5 trailer, I nearly pooped myself.
I told myself I wouldn't be an early adopter of DX11, but if developers like this are actually going to take to it faster than DX10 (what a joke), I may have to reconsider.
That looks incredibly good. I wonder though, how well this franchise will do once GT5 goes gold.
PD will give Codemasters a run for their money seeing as GT5 will have rally and some more.
Yes, I know...it will take some time till GT5 is out and we don't even know how good rally will be in that game but....c'mooon, it's Polyphone 'freaking' Digital - they do not make half-arsed games.
I agree with you, I'm on the fence...all I know is Dirt 2 was gonna be a day one buy for me, but after seeing that GT5 will have the official WRC license...hmmmm....as I said, I'm on the fence.
@homernoy: I'm pretty fond of Vista myself. The GUI is pretty great-looking, that's for sure. My only real complaints are how they changed old steadfast program's names like 'Add & Remove Programs' to 'Programs and Features' (What?), and how it seems to just generally run a bit slower than XP (even on a quad-core w/ DDR3). But it seems really stable (no more crashes than XP, possibly less) and the DX 10 incentive fucking clinches it. Like I'm not going to get DX10 because people don't like Vista? Fuck that. Even if Vista sucked fucking acid-laden balls I'd still get it for DX10 and just partition the drive or something.
Seeing as though I just got a PC (old one completely broke down), the words DX 11 fill me with a silent terror. I mean, I love the leap in graphics technology, but goddamnit, I just got the fucking thing. (And, yes, I knew about Windows 7 and DX 11, my fucking PC broke.)
@Strangelove:I wouldn't worry too much about it. DX11 is backward compatible with DX10 hardware (unlike DX9 to DX10), and if DX10 is any indication, it will be awhile before the majority of PC games are DirectX 11 anyway.
Racing Games aren't really designed for the PC so does it really matter? The majority of the PC market doesn't have a gamepad (myself included) so what's the point of releasing racing games? Trackmania is the only exception i see which i am re-downloading off of steam as we speak.
@T3rm1n4L: The Wii is a slightly enhanced GameCube. It should be capable of better than this. This doesn't look much improved over the decade old Sega Rally 2.
Limitations are one thing, and perhaps Codemasters scaled things down by focusing on the split screen mode shown in the trailer. It's still disappointing to look at even if you consider the inferior hardware let alone compare it to modern, current titles.
@Kobun: You know what's odd? You linkingthat video makes me want to buy this game now. I freaking LOVED Sega Rally. So much so that by similarities alone, I will buy this game. Codemasters send Kobun a check k thanks.
@T3rm1n4L: Do you have Sega Rally Revo for the 360/PS3? It's like a perfect Sega Rally game minus good but less memorable soundtrack. Newegg has the 360 version for a ridiculous $13.99 with free shipping.

Also that bit was CG.

You can still do them on AWD cars, since the differentials are set up with different power placement percentages.
i.e. 60% rear and 40% front.

GT5 will have the rally mode and Nascar included. Plus your traditional track racing.
What is more beneficial to you, you have to ask.

I think (going from memory... don't quote me) devs have been playing with DX11 for around two years now.

Yeah I just said that. But seriously, it's on the Wii you shouldn't expect much in the visual department. The Wii is like an immobile DS.
