    10/16/09

This is a general overview of how the new tagging system works as of 10/16/09.

Remember that for right now unstarred commentors cannot start threads in tag's subforums unless they are promoted. Also, at current, unstarred comments cannot be seen even with "Show Hidden Threads" enabled by starred commentors. Unstarred commentors can reply to thread already in existence in a tag subforum though.

    1) How to create a subforum
Looks like there are two ways to go about doing this.
The first is using the new chatbox next to the Kotaku logo. You will need to replace the word after the pound/number/hash (#) sign with whatever word you want. This will create a subforum under the tag "yourword". The tag cannot contain spaces or special characters as this sends your comment into the unknown. Only alphanumeric characters will work for a tag.

You can add as many tags as you want in the logo comment box. Your comment will then appear in the subforum of each tag.

The second is to add the tag manually to the URL. After "kotaku.com/" input "tag/tagnamehere" (without quotes for either). This will bring you to the tag's page. When you click on the new logo comment box here, it will default to the "tagnamehere" subforum for your comment.

    2) Adding tags in normal posts
Including a tag in a post (normal front page editor post or subforum post) will link to that tag's page. It will not include your post under that tag's subforum.

    3) Other oddities
Editing a multi-tagged thread starting post will edit the post ACROSS ALL TAGS, i.e. if you use the new chatbox to create the subforums for #abc and #def, editing the post in either subforum will change it in the other subforum.

If you want to directly go to the comment subforum of a tag, but don't have any links to click there. Add "/tag/cmt/tagnamehere" to the end of kotaku.com/
