@Showmeyomoves!: Seeing as how Chrizkerr2 is such a big marvel fan he's totally going to know that MUA 2 means marvel ultimate alliance 2. Hell im a marvel fan and it took me more than 2 seconds to figure it out.
The fact that Marvel only digitally distributes comics that are months old tells me they're not that serious about it yet. That and the small screens of handheld devices mean I'll keep making the weekly trip to my LCS.
@Showmeyomoves!: The people hitting up the LCS every week, are not the people Marvel is approaching with this kind of service. This is for lapsed or laid back comic readers looking to get their fix at their own convenience. Like me.
@andrewwyatt: I just got the entire civil war story (according to Marvels Civil war checklist) and I have to say it's well worth the read. There is a lot of it though.
I already own the main books so I don't feel too bad about obtaining scans of a few I'd never have gotten round to finding.
@LandMineLandSnake: I know this is off-topic to the post but to give you info. (Spoilers if you will though the event is 2 years old)
He was shot after the Civil War and was believed dead till now (since there was a corpose an autopsy and everything, even a state funeral). Bucky/Winter Soldier took up the mantle but now we've found that Cap is just unstuck in time like in Slaughterhouse 5 or to quote more recent sources Lost's Desmond and should be back most likely. That bit of the story is ongoing.
@LandMineLandSnake: I don't think that's what the newspaper said. He already shook the world fighting the US gov and turning himself in. His going on trial would be first page material.
@ShadowOdin isn't american: Well it's entirely pointless but when you look at comics as soap operas then yeah it's perfectly logical.
Characters won't stay dead if there's no actor to play them. Sure people may dislike Final Crisis but when it went meta and supes said the pray for a resurrection line - well that about sums up the modern age. At least Bruce Wayne's not technically dead I guess.
As for Spider-man, it's pretty much because the Editors wanted spider-man to be like when he was a teen. The marriage breaking bit sucks but it seems like they're working towards erasing the erasure.
@Derangel: I doubt if Bruce will be back by the end of Blackest Night, probably after some time-travelling or alternate reality hunting since he's at the time Anthro lived and died.
not trying to sound like a fanboy... because i like the psp well enough.. but reading comics on an iphone/ipod touch seems like its better than this will be. i dont know how they handle zooming and whatnot.. but i cant imagine it comparing to double touching and sliding on the i-devices.
@shouryuuken: you make a good point but I think zooming with actual buttons would work perfectly fine, seeing as how you don't have to worry about smudging the screen when scrolling or zooming. what would be really great is if they programmed some type of smart panel viewing.
@spiderweb1986: Well, the much larger screen, for one.
But then, those devices aren't in color.
PErsonally, I think this will live or die based on price, not on control or quality. If you have to pay just as much as a paper comic, most will go that route (what are they now, $3? $4?). If they're a buck, it will take off.
When you're looking at a battery life of weeks, its a plus. Also Not being obligated to a 720 dollar contract for 2 years of 3g data services is a plus. Kindle's 3g is covered in the initial cost of the device.
Also starring at a backlit device for hours can be a pain.
As Matthew Weflen pointed out a few comics above here, the readers can't display in color, which is absolutely essential to these comics the way they are published now. I don't think digital ink would make up for reducing a comic intended to be seen in full color to black and white.
I see this as an insult to those of us that have actually continued to support the comics industry as it exists. Comics don't need to become easier to buy.
And the type of person this would appeal the most to is the type of person who'd already choose to just use CDisplay and pirate comics anyway.
@Ueziel: "Comics don't need to become easier to buy."
If it keeps the industry going, is it really a bad thing?
As for the second point...if it does appeal to people who pirate and gets them to pay for a legal version instead of downloading for free, that is, unarguably, a good thing.
@Ueziel: Personally, i've been wanting to get into comics, but have yet to find a shop close enough to where i live that sells them. For people like me it's a good thing to get a foot in the door.
@SHOWTIME!: You could try some mail order places - some offer really good discounts that offset the shipping costs. I'm lucky to have a good comic store here, but I know they can be hard to find.
@Ueziel: But they could be, potentially, easier to read for people like myself with disabilities that make turning pages tricky at best. If the PSP can provide a comfortable interface to legally read comics, I won't complain.
@Ueziel: I don't see this having a detrimental effect on the comics industry in any tangible way. If anything, it should help it expand to a new market, and create doors for otherwise obscure comics to get mainstream recognition.
I just don't understand how you could complain about this :/
@Ueziel: While I like comics in paper, for someone who's moved countries as often as I have, I'd much rather a digital medium and I'm glad a few companies are going that way.
I think people who love the medium will support it in whatever form it appears in. I mean we're not supporting comic books for its paper but for its content.
@ddmeightball: Ignoring the fact that manga simply means 'comic' in Japanese, I don't think country of origin or format should matter if the book is of quality. Just saying...
I love the idea, but to be perfectly honest, it seems like it is going to be a major pain in the ass to read scanned full page comics on the PSP screen. There is going to be A LOT of scrolling around and zooming in. Many comics use full two page spreads for some major moments and I have a feeling those moments will be diminished on the tiny screen.
This would be AMAZING on my HDTV at home. I'd be all over this if it were available on the PS3. As it stands on the PSP, I honestly don't see this being very successful.
@KillerBee: from the video and earlier images it seems like we can view panel by panel of a comic page. I think it could just get a bit messy for a multi-panel image but otherwise it's fine.
@KillerBee: I've often read e-books converted to .jpgs on my PSP at night, it's suprisingly easy, although, there is a bit of resizing involved for the .jpg files. For instance, I read through a fair bit of The Oxford Book of Modern Science not too long ago using my PSP.
@WhatTheFrag: I've downloaded a few comics and the best ones are the ones that aren't just scanned books. Panel by panel makes it much nicer to view on a computer. I imagine PSP will do the same.
@Exhorresco: not with the current display. I already tried reading comics with a homebrew ds-app. It really had all the needed features like zooming, rotating and fully supporting the dual screens but it just feels.. wrong. When you open a comic you get the full 2-page impression with all the carefully layouted boxes and text-bubbles that build an harmonic picture as a whole. This just is not working on a screen like the psp.

@TaggarT6: Having thought about it...I think the only way this could really work would be if each comic was animated in such a way that all the panels were broken up into separate slide shows.
The screen is too small to try to show a full page at a time. Break the pages into panels that are resized to tfit teh screen.
@davincij: I'm familiar with online site. I use to use it back in the day. They need to take that idea and move it to the next step by treating each panel as its on "slide".
The PC app tried to retain the magazine page feel. I don't think they can try that on the PSP given the screen size.
Ok, yeah, as anyone that's played this game will tell you, that chick is one of the few who don't get in bed with the protagonist, and at no point during the game are ANY female characters naked. That is, the 3D models during gameplay do not feature textures that expose the upper or nether regions on any character.
So no, this is not a nipple slippage. It's an idle animation (she's a whore seductively playing her hands over her body), coupled with a poorly-timed screen grab.
Ignore it and move on. Better yet, ignore it and buy this fucking game, because The Witcher was fantastic.
And lo, we are granted a brief glimpse into the world before the underwire cup.
God help us all.
(Sidenote: I recall reading of atrocious loading times for that game, on here, but the skyglow in that last picture makes me think it might be worth it. What is that? Specular lighting? Some sort of ___glow effect?)
