@EloquentZen: As far as I know, most of them do. I think with certain mods, there may be problems due to missing assets and so on but I think you should be alright with the majority of them.
@astidcrisse: Don't mean to criticise your spelling (heck, I might've misspelled criticise), but did you really want to write ''effect'', or you wrote it in french?
Considering the crew was paid absolutely nothing, had to do some pretty drastic things to the engine to get them to work correctly, and lovingly re-created a now-unused old gaming universe that some of us are old enough to associate fondly as a fairly big part of their childhood, (epic, EPIC battles took place between me and my friends in the place of my living room. Gamer heaven) I think I can forgive them for being a little late.
God. damn. awesome. So much so that I'm willing to venture into a god-damn's lions den of a community that will probably eat me alive, as there tend to be in these kinda niche-sim game communities, just so I can stomp around in a damned Mad Cat again.
@Evdor: I'm with you on this, I wish the trailer had a bit more fighting in it, I'm most curious about how that translated.
As a fellow Timberwolf/Mad Cat fan (too bad they lost the license to the Marauder) and die hard battletech fan in general I just wish I had a rig that could run it.
Oh, I wouldn't call the Battletech/Mechwarrior universe unused just somewhat dormant. There is another "official" Mechwarrior on its way... unless it got cancelled while I wasn't looking.
No way! They also put in Aerotech? Well damnit, I guess I have to buy a super-high end gaming pc in order to play a mod of a shooter I don't have any interest in, that is of a brand that was decent until FASA went bankrupt and have now shunned (almost) all of the tabletop roots...
Still waiting for a Battletech strategy game for the DS. That would sell like...Twilight novels to 15 year old girls.
@denki: FYI, Battletech the board game has been re-released in its classic rule-set, and a lot of the books have been re-printed. A couple places around here have started playing it regularly again, much to my surprise.
Also I would kill for a decent DS-y-version of Battletech--just program in the scenario packs of old and give it a go. Megamek with better scripting would be like crack to me.
@Evdor: I found out they were reprinting the stuff some time ago, but the story is kinda...dead. That and I haven't actually played the game in 8 years- a lot to do with moving around and losing my box of BT crap.
Yeah, Megamek is not without its problems. Needs a faster redraw, UI upgrade and AI rewrite- I hate watching my processor go nuts when the AI thinks.
@PoweredByHentai: That was FASA Interactive that MS bought and killed- the RPG FASA apparently just quit while they still had money. Thank you [en.wikipedia.org]
A GTX260 will eat anything alive at 1680x1050 resolution, max graphics. That can be had for $170.
I've seen Core2Quad CPU/motherboard combos go for under $200 at Fry's. 4 gigs of ram nowadays is $40 for DDR2, and a legit copy of Win7 64 bit can be had for $30 if you're a student.
Even a lowly sub $100 8800 will run Crysis on medium-high.
Ya don't need to break the bank to play it and you'll get tons of benefits from having a gaming PC anyways.
I own a boxed copy of Crysis, though its in the "scary closet". Hoping it goes on sale on Steam though. I've been wanting Burnout Paradise but didn't want to pay $30 since I own it for 360. Low and behold. $7 on steam with a few of the DLCs in there as well.
@PoweredByHentai: Smith and Tinker bought back some of the FASA rights from Microsoft and are supposed to be working on a new Mechwarrior and hopefully an actual Shadowrun game.
@PoweredByHentai: Nope, no I didn't. I'm currently running on very, very light skimming articles and blind assumptions, so I had no idea FASA just changed their name (by adding Interactive). I always figured the two were somehow separate, seeing as how the game versions of BT that came out were never like their tabletop counterparts (just because they weren't strategy, a shallow distinction). I just never figured the pencil and paper guys turned into keyboard and screen guys. Sorry for my ignorance, thanks for the good links.
I meant the MechWarrior (up to 3, at least) PC games, which this seems to have taken directly from. Who would expect it to be the tabletop version from the media they've provided?
@graavigala: This is a real 'mech game. A 'mech game for SciFi and table top gaming nerds, not Gundam or something anime. Dirt, grit, sweat, and blood; not high pitched whiny women and 12 year old boys saving the world.
If two legged walking tanks are made real this is why they'll look like. Can you imagine what an anime producer would have designed an M1 Abrams to look like?
@graavigala: I going to promote this comment with the purpose of educating you on just what made the Mechwarrior franchise so popular that it sprung out from its tabletop roots into an entire game franchise, had its own cartoon series, and continues to have quite a large fanbase even with the absence of quality titles for quite some time.
Apart from the fantastic universe that it is set in, the reason why Mechwarrior is just so fun is because of the mechanics of the gameplay. The giant bipedal walking warmachines are unlike other games in that they are tied down by some semblance of real life physics. They overheat, they turning limitations, they run out of ammunition with no reload. You really have to be strategic with your armor and weapons loadout and understand the strengths and limitations of each mech chassis. If you've never played it before I suggest visiting your local game hobby shop and getting some buddies together to experience the table top strategy game. The depth of gameplay will blow your mind.
@AOClaus: You do realize that many of the Mechwarrior designs were lifted directly from Macross. Right? I played the original tabletop version back in the 80's, like a lot of folks, but I'm not arrogant enough to pretend that the designs are original to the content. Some are, many are not.
@commentotron: There's already been a discussion about this on Kotaku, and saying that MOST of them were lifted is a bit of a stretch. There were a handful of designs lifted, and those were redesigned after the lawsuit.
Nice concept art, but to actually expect all of them to be great games or look as good is like expecting to cook a feast just because you bought great ingredients.
@b-radicate: the cryengine 3 is pretty and looks great but they've barely had a chance to do some really interesting work besides the same boring landscape. If they do something nice looking then yeah I'll say fine. But it's the most underused one at the moment. It's not an engine that counts but what you do with it.
The jet one seems the most out of place otherwise the rest could all be one fantasy epic combining Japan and China with a little Africa. I speak mostly of the body style and colors used along with clothing and architecture styling.

Well, I mean when I get home from work anyways.

"but will it run MechWarrior: Living Legends?"
