As long as they maintain the tone of the first game, this could really be something special. If they try to fill it with adult content, then failFailFAIL!
@DARTH_TIGRIS: The tone of the game was definitely lost in the pseudo-controversy that erupted before its release (which, not surprisingly, fizzled away afterward). The story of "Bully" was was spirited, atmospheric (loved the changing of the seasons), witty, and pretty hilarious too.
Anyone expecting "GTA in a school" were either let down or pleasantly surprised, depending on their expectations. I fell into the latter camp. #bully
Bully was a totally underrated game in the sense that it made open world "sandbox" games come full circle back to the old adventure game genre.
It was like a beat em up version of Willy Beamish (in a way). Hopefully they explore more interesting narrative directions with Bully not relying so much on brawler game mechanics. #bully
Awesome. Bully is still one of the best implementations of the Wiimote, especially in a port. Would have been a perfect game if not for the bug that took away my color camera. :-/ #bully
Cycling around campus and town with a camera to complete the year book is for me one of the most memorable moment of gaming history. It conveys something very very strong about social integration and self growth through Art. #bully
Can't wait for a new bully. The game was really fun, with great dialogue and really funny events. It certainly deserves a sequel. But I certainly wouldn't know if Rockstar would be able to make an even better sequel, since I believe they've touched on most topics/stereotypes about school life on the first game. #bully
@Lider: I think they could improve significantly the social engine which was one of the few minor letdown I had with this great title.
Another possible lead would be to change the age range and put the main character in a college campus. Doing so would be taking a huge risk though since teen age nostalgia was key to our emotional involvement in the first game. #bully
@RicoTheSaboteur: You've touched on a good point. The social engine could be improved, maybe having more options about the interaction with the other students at least.
And about the age change, it probably wouldn't be too good. Not only about the nostalgia aspect that you've mentioned but that one of the main charms about the game was about the ingenuity that surrounded the game. #bully
@RicoTheSaboteur: I had a talk with a friend about a truly open ended bully type game. One where it was played in college and the game was much more sandbox then title. You spent those four years doing what you wanted. Wanted to be a jock and train every day? Cue the Sports game sidegame.. How about a hipster and do art? Cue the mario paint clone.. What about a a campus party stud where it became more of a management title keeping track of your friends and beer supplies.
It was a curious sort of idea but it played off the age old adage, college is what you make of it. And most of us would kill to go back and relive it. #bully
I just wish the towns were bigger. Basically, I just want Bully on a larger scale. I wouldn't mind if they genericized some of the characters, which is what I think made the scope of the original game a lot smaller. I'd just love to see a really huge Bully, because I really felt like I was stuck in a small pond once I was allowed to explore the city. #bully
@DRaGZ: It's interesting, because I think I lean the other way. I do like the idea of more space to explore, but I'd much rather see a far more developed, tightly-knit plot centering on campus, with more individual characters getting fully developed and written out - a little less cheap caricature, because when they did flesh characters out those characters were generally awesome. #bully
That's what I like to hear! Traveling through those Northeastern inspired town settings outside of Bullworth Academy always reminds me of the fall. I think this game ranks up there in my favorites and the prospect of a sequel has me excited yo! #bully
I actually bought this game twice: once for the Wii, and again for the 360 this afternoon ($3.60 at GameCrazy on their last day of business). If there's a sequel, I'm definitely interested. #bully
Oh yes. Bully 2 with the GTA4 (Emotion?) Engine. The first one wasn't the most impressive game technically, but I loved it on the 360 because the focus was more on actual design.
If Rockstar can up the production values without turning the thing into another tech demo, this could be a great game. Also ditch the T rating, it really held the game back for nothing: it still was a menace "for the children" because boys could kiss. I want a college with frats, drugs, sex and a serious story.
Between this, Max Payne 3, LA Noire, Agent and Red Dead Redemption, the next two years are going to be really busy for them.
This was one of my favourite games Rockstar has ever put out. More than Grand Theft Auto III, San Andreas (and even GTA IV to an extent).
It felt like Dennis the Mennis and was nicely orignal to see a school setting use GTA-esque gameplay.
I had it on the PS2 originally and then happily bought a 360 copy.
Putting ribbons in my hair and kissing all the boys (well, one boy, since there was only that one blonde kid who was gay enough to make out with me) for that achievement was priceless. #bully
YES!
Right after my first Xbox 360 RROD'd I went back to the last generation games and played Bully.
What I'll say is that I can't wait to go to the next grade at Bullsworth (or a Bullsworth High - if there is one). #bully
Theoretically, wouldn't Jimmy be too old to be the main character this time around? Because in the first game you go through five semesters/years of private school, so he'd be like... 16-18 by the time the game finished up.
I'm cool with that though. Just let Jimmy be the star of the GTA London remake. ;) #bully
@Komrade Kayce: Jimmy wouldnt be too old the first game was just one year of school. Rockstar just split the game into 5 different chapters. Jimmy was 15 at the end of the game. (not that it really matters i just wanted to let you know)
I loved the game as well. It was the first sandbox game that i cared enough about to actually finish. If this rumor is true then i am very excited to start hearing more about it. #bully
Thanks guys, I didn't know that. I figured since the achievements were all 'YEAR ONE' and such, it was kinda hinting that Jimmy got dumped there for his entire high school career. #bully
Hm, interesting. Bully wasn't my favorite Rockstar game ever, but Gary was a fucked up villain. Probably one of the most twisted bad guys in video games.
I might play a sequel. Probably wouldn't buy it, but rental? Sure. #bully
@Archaotic: Let's give credit where credit is due: Peter Vack did a great acting job. Bully also stroke me as a game where not only the lines and voice acting was good, but also the motion of the characters.
One of my very few disappointment with the game is that Gary is at work, but off screen, during two thirds if not three quarters of the story. #bully
I never got into Bully. I don't really know what it was about it I didn't like. I do vaguely remember some clunky controls but there was more to it than that. Whatever the case, I'd be interested in seeing what they do for a second game. #bully
@-MasterDex-: I couldn't get into it either. I got the scholarship edition for the 360, but I think I played it for a couple of hours, and then just never wanted to put it in again. Then I traded it in for something else, that got traded for something else...
... well, you know how it goes.
I have a PS2 in my room that I use for late-night insomnia sessions though... I might give the PS2 version a re-try if I can find it on the cheap. #bully
@dracosummoner: Yes, very good! I try to recommend it to kids who want Grand Theft Auto all the time.
Of course, it always falls on deaf ears, because kids only care about blood and guts, not gameplay. Even when I try to tell them that it is, on the whole, much better than the GTA series, they just want something with guns and carjacking in it. #bully
