Alright, I like Nintendo, and I love my DS. But this business practice of theirs, where they release "revised" versions of their products like...6 months after the original (or "original") came out is really ridiculous. And it's a huge slap in the face to consumers.

Surely these requests for a larger screen were floating around well before the DSi came out. #top

It is a good thing I waited because this is both cool and complete bullshit. It's neat that they made the screen bigger and a much bigger stylus but it would be bullshit to those people who bought the first generation DSi. #top

Many of the US articles are failing to note that, while a touch expensive at $200, the DSi LL has 2 brain games and a dictionary embedded within it. I can understand the brain games, as they are popular with the elderly, but not sure about the dictionary, because, well, most old people I know have a really good vocabulary which one can only assume is proportional to the number of years they've lived.

Plus, the DSi LL has DS Lite-like battery life. For example, at "high" contrast, the Lite was 7-11 hours vs the DSi at 4-6 hours. The DSi LL is 6-8 hours.

Give Nintendo a break. They heard the cries of the people and gave them what they wanted, without going all out with a whole new successor to the DS. It's too early for a new DS, anything above a bigger screen would count as new DS-material, and it will gain them profit from those who have yet to pick up the DSi. Deal. #top

So hang on a sec. There was:

    The DS
    The DS Lite
    The DSi
    The DS LL

Have I missed any? Anyone else think this is a cynical business model from Nintendo? I'm all for refining and enhancing a product but I think it might be nice to have something new that's actually, y'know, new...

To those who bought a DSi and are feeling very ripped off right now: Remember those of us who bought a GameBoy Advance when it didn't have a backlight and was literally next to unplayable. Then Nintendo "discovered" a way to make battery life "possible" even with a light (GASP!) and we all had to buy another GBA - or risk going blind straining our eyes to see the action taking place on a dark black screen. It gets to the point where I start wondering why people (myself included) don't just give up on corporations like Nintendo and Apple who can't stop with the constant revisions they planned in the first place but held off on for extra dollars.

@Sloopydrew: Early adoption always comes with a heavy price tag in that, you know you're only going to be on top of the world for 6 months to a year with your gadgets. By now as a fan of both Apple and Nintendo I can make a more educated decision on when to buy. #top

@Sloopydrew: it remind me of the ram expension for the n64 and the rumble pack. if those thing were not planned from the start when the console was designed there wouldnt have been slots on the console and controler for them to fit in so it was obliously a way to make people buy some big nintendo games (donkeykong and starfox) to get the addons. #top

@chamoo232: I may be remembering wrong, but I think Donkey Kong came with the memory expansion at no extra charge. It was people who bought it early for games like Turok that ended up getting screwed. Wow ... that's starting to seem like a long time ago now.

Since we're speaking of RAM in a DS thread, I'm going to ask again if anyone knows if the extra RAM in the DSi is going to be put toward games? A new Mario or something with a boost in graphics on the DS would finally get me to move past the DS Phat. And where's a new, side-scrolling Donkey Kong Country, already?!? #top
