I'm sick of it. I want to nominate another video clip in its stead.

Now obviously, you're not going to get the exact same reaction from another pair of fresh-faced youngsters opening up their first major home console (not unless they're hamming it up, anyway). But perhaps you could have a non sequitur video that's only tangentially related to the holidays. Or video games for that matter.

Here's a few for your consideration.

First, the Japanese Zelda rap commercial. It's directly game-related, entertaining and doesn't even mention the holidays so persons who abstain from Christmas or what have you don't feel left out.

Second, President Obama and his talk with kids about Christmas and The Sims. Very much on-topic, if a bit hard to hear and there's a lot less screaming.

Finally, how about Easter Bunny hates You? Sure, it's not related to video games and it's the wrong holiday — but it's way more entertaining to watch than two kids flipping out over the Nintendo 64.

Got your own holiday YouTube recommendations? Hit me up in the comments — I'll be at my sister-in-law's house, pretending to not be Jewish. Happy Holidays everyone!

<![CDATA[2009 In Review: The Trailers]]> They're at the forefront of marketing, rarely show gameplay and have been hopelessly corrupted by "developer diaries", but that's not to say we hate trailers. We like trailers. There are even some that we love.

Whether indicative of a game or just the "feel" or "tone" of one still in development, the humble game trailer has become an artform unto itself in recent times. Here's some of 2009's best, which we've picked for their raw entertainment value, not for the job they do depicting the actual game in question.

Mass Effect 2

Left 4 Dead 2

Halo 3: ODST

Star Wars: The Old Republic

Forza 3

The Beatles: Rock Band

Killzone 2

The Last Guardian

And that about does it! For what it's worth, my favourite was the ODST one. Really slick, expensive, powerful stuff. Who would have thought Hungarian would sound so futuristic?!

Did we miss anything? Let us know!

<![CDATA[Southpeak Games Wishes You A Charmingly Awkward Christmas]]> The gang from Southpeak Games wishes you and yours a happy holidays and a something 2010, showcasing one of the most adorably goofy groups of game industry professionals ever assembled, except for that one guy.

Man, that one guy. He's just not in the holiday spirit at all. I'm not going to single out which one I am talking about, as the holidays are different for everyone and enforcing my particular notion of what the holidays mean on you folks would be terribly insensitive of me.

The rest of them are so adorable you just want to pinch their cheeks. Next time I run into the Southpeak folks, there will be pinching. Just warning them ahead of time.

<![CDATA[Left 4 Dead 2's Midnight Riders Wish You Warm Christmas Beatings]]> They may not be getting a starring role in Left 4 Dead 2 downloadable content as we'd hoped, but the self-proclaimed Greatest Southern Rock Supergroup of All Time is providing more musical back up than we were expecting.

The Midnight Riders—or their management, we presume, since the band has been missing in action since October—have released their holiday single "All I Want For Christmas (Is To Kick Your Ass)" online, giving Left 4 Dead 2/southern rock superfans a new Christmas anthem to break pool cues and beer bottles to.

The fiction, explaining how the Midnight Riders would even conceive of writing a Christmas tune, can be enjoyed at the band's YouTube page.

<![CDATA[Why Can't This Ever Happen At The Airports I Use?]]> This is quite possibly the only Army of Two: The 40th Day teaser that's made me laugh. Probably because I've spent six hours in airports so far this holiday and have another four ahead of me to go home.

I don't even care that it's a United Kingdom teaser instead of a North American one. You'll find that airports — from their appearances and smells to their interminable waits and wailing babies — are pretty much a universal concept. By the time we colonize the moon, I'm sincerely hoping we've solved the wailing babies problem.

Merry Christmas to those of you ahead of the United States' timezones. Happy day-before-Christmas to the rest of you!

<![CDATA[NSFW: A Brief Peek At Heavy Rain's Adult Content]]> Adult games and games for adults are different. European developer Quantic Dream doesn't just dream of making games for adults, it is.

With upcoming PS3 title Heavy Rain, the developer aims to make the video game equivalent of something like an R rated film — adult characters, adult content. As mentioned previously, some of that content is nudity. The preview build of the game played by Kotaku included a little bit of nudity - a bare male posterior, a topless woman, and cheekily blocked genitalia during some scenes of dressing and undressing — but no sex.

Footage from Polish site tvgry.pl offers a look at how the adult content in the game is being handled — looks somewhat sterile, which is refreshing for a video game.

<![CDATA[A Nomination For Coolest Game Developer Of The Year]]> This is Uber Entertainment's Aung Zaw Oo an animator and man of... other talents. Great, yet another game developer who eats potato chips. Oh, and he can juggle. And sit in a chair. But look at how he does it!

You may remember Aung Zaw Oo, who goes by AZO, from April, when he posted his real-life take on Mirror's Edge

The Kirkland, Washington-based Uber Entertainment where AZO works is developing unannounced video game projects. Consider me officially curious.

<![CDATA[Robin Williams On The Wii]]> If you ever wanted to know how Academy Award winner Robin Williams feels about the Nintendo Wii, we can't help you. We can just direct you to this one bit of comedy wherein he mentions it.

It's right at 6:44 in that video. The rest of it is pretty hilarious, too, though.

Fans of Williams were probably already well aware of his Weapons of Self-Destruction tour. Sadly, I was in the dark about it until I came to my mother's house for the holidays and discovered her TiVo.

There's also a bunch of The Big Bang Theory and Men of a Certain Age on here too. Perhaps the holiday vacation won't be as boring without my Sims 3 as I thought.

<![CDATA[See Nintendo's Zangeki No Reginleiv In Bloody, Limb Chopping Action]]> Nintendo isn't normally in the business of publishing bloody, violent M-rated—or, in Japan's case, CERO D rated—games for its hardware. In fact, Zangeki No Reginleiv will likely be the first Wii game to carry such a high rating.

But blood shall flow and limbs shall be neatly severed in Zangeki No Reginleiv, a game announced way back in October 2008 and, so far, only for Japan. The game was originally known as Dynamic Zan, if that rings a bell. Should Nintendo bring the game to the Americas and Europe, we're guessing it's not going to be titled Dynamic Zan or Zangeki No Reginleiv.

The Wii game was developed by Sandlot, the team responsible for similarly violent action series Earth Defense Force for D3Publisher, so expect some familiar looking giant-thing slaying here. But also expect Wii MotionPlus and the Classic Controller support, as well as online cooperative multiplayer, should you ultimately get your hands on it.

You can officially color me a bright crimson hue of "interested."

<![CDATA[Cameron Diaz Was (Almost) In Mortal Kombat]]> Most of the time, our news is fresh. It has that "new news" smell. But sometimes, our news is old. Like a fine wine. Like this vintage clip from a special on Cameron Diaz with some surprisingly game-related info.

Did you know Diaz had been cast as Sonya in the first Mortal Kombat movie? And only pulled out because she broke her hand having karate lessons? We didn't.

Imagine that...one of the most beautiful and successful actresses of our generation, and she was one broken hand from throwing it all away...

<![CDATA[Here, Have A Sonic Racing X-mas Video]]> I cannot express in words just how sick I am of the 12 Days of Christmas song. And I'm not saying that just because I'm Jewish and Hanukkah is over — I really can't stand that song.

Doesn't it drive anybody else crazy how the first five days or so are birds? Or how you can't get the pear tree without taking the damn partridge, too (because that would be ungracious)? Why can't we just declare the Trans-Siberian Orchestra's Christmas Eve/Sarajevo the official song of the holiday season?

Anyway, here's an alternative take on The 12 Days of Christmas, featuring Sonic: Sega All-Stars Racing.

<![CDATA[N64 Emulator Stumbles Onto The iPhone]]> Jailbreaking an iPhone isn't as necessary as it once was, but hey, some people still like to do it. And those people can now play some N64 on their iPhones.

By all accounts it's a bit of a mess but then, that's what you get when you muck around with this kind of business. There's sloppy framerates and poor controls all over the shop.

On the bright side, it supports the...Wii Remote?

<![CDATA[On The Worst Day Of Christmas Dante's Inferno Gave To Me...]]> The Dante's Inferno marketing team sinks to new lows in this "The Worst Day of Christmas" trailer. Two purple peaks? Really?

Have you ever been embarrassed for someone else? The moment the music starts up in this holiday-themed Dante's Inferno trailer my cheeks started getting warm. By the time the first line came out, they were deep crimson. "On the worst day of Christmas Lucifer gave to me..." Ug. Someone had to sing that. Not only did someone have to sing that, they probably had to do multiple takes, while other people were watching. Is there a circle of hell for marketing that makes you vaguely uncomfortable?

<![CDATA[Weyland-Yutani: Building Better, Bloodier Worlds]]> Lance Henriksen slithers back into the role of Charles Bishop Weyland in this story trailer for Rebellion's Aliens vs. Predator, once again managing to sound comforting and sinister at the same time.

I'm pleased to see Rebellion putting so much work into the story mode for Aliens vs. Predator. While I love the multiplayer concept of three diverse factions fighting against each other, I wouldn't want to miss the thrill of being a lone space marine caught in the crossfire between two vicious alien species. The fact that Lance Henriksen's fatherly serial killer voice will be accompanying me on the journey is the blood-spattered icing on the cake.

His voice makes me want to curl up with a hot cup of cocoa and then choke on it.
