This looks fun. The story will probably be better served by being told in a more cinematic approach, and the gameplay looks more action-oriented and honestly, it looks more fun than the old game.
It reminds me of the unsung Squaresoft action-platformer RPGs of the PS1 era, like Threads of Fate and Brave Fencer Musashi. I've read in interviews that the entire original team is making this, and that all of the music is being brought over.
If they think that this is the direction the series should go in, maybe we should respect the fact that the people who made the goddamn franchise have a good idea of where it should go next. Fingers crossed for an english release.

Naughty Dog had a top notch group for Uncharted, and MGS4's voicing wasn't bad either. Here's to hoping that it at least comes out halfway decent.

Those summons are looking good and I'm sure there will be quite a few surprises. Will be nice to see the English trailer with the new theme song at some point.

Really, I'd rather have something different than both of them.

Yeah, "generic" is putting it perfectly. I think that "zzzz" also sums it up nicely. Even Japanese netizens are somewhat jealous of the English theme song.
I'm sorry, but the Japanese version is one of the most generic songs I have ever heard. You could easily swap it out with another random jpop song, and I don't think many people would even realize it.
Frankly, I am pleased that Square is taking (baby) steps to appeal to a western audience. Bringing in a native English speaker, to sing songs with lyrics that were originally written in English. All I can remember is that atrocious rendition of 9's "Melodies of Life" sung in horrendous katakana English.
And I am sick and tired of this mentality that anything that existed in the original Japanese version must remain...like the game existing in raw Japanese form is some kind of perfect gift from god, and altering it is blasphemous. When you are selling a global product, sometimes you need to adapt it to a different market. I mean look, Square is obviously going all out for the English language version...releasing it a mere 3 months after the Japanese version, and they are taking the time and effort to go back into the game, and recode the lipsynchs so that they match up with the English dialogue track. Leaving the theme song in there "as is" or having the singer perform it in broken english isn't good enough...if you are going to go through that much effort to reach out to the western audience, you need to change the song as well.

From what I've seen so far, it looks like it could potentially replace IX as my favorite Final Fantasy.
That'd be no easy task, so we'll see. Either way, the 9th is going to be a very, very good day methinks.

IX IS AMAZING!!! I thought I was the only one who thinks it's the best.
The characters alone in IX destroy every other FF's. I'm a dude and I actually cried at the ending. Tears of joy. ahhh I love FFIX so freakin much.

The opening "play" in Alexandria, Burmecia, Madain Sari and so on. About the only place I didn't like was Kuja's Palace (but that was mainly because I've never liked the portions of JRPGs where your party gets split up, have to roll out the B squad).
Ah, I think that's enough gushing for one night.

hahaha yeah I hear ya. That palace was a PAIN! I hate using all the characters I haven't bothered leveling the whole game. Sure it's a nice challenge, but it's just not worth the headache.
Not to mention, some of the puzzles in that place were practically impossible without either playing the game multiple times, or having a strategy guide.
I looooved the opening. Especially the 'secret scene/easter egg' if you keep answering the question wrong about who you're supposed to kidnap.
Madain Sari is awesome. Conde Petie was my absolute fav. "Rally ho!"
Beatrix+Steiner = the best couple ever. And who doesn't love Vivi.
The summon system was great, and so was the music. My copy is actually autographed by Nobuo Uematsu. Probably worth a pretty penny...
*sigh* now I want to play it again...

Did Namco royally screw up the adhoc code or was the connection in adhoc party screwed up?

What did I ever do to you, 8-bit Michael?
So to add to the list of things Michael has done....
- Assisted space policewoman and space news anchors in battling space evil
- Transformed into giant robot to assist Alex Kidd in defending Earth against Zangief & Princess Toadstool
- Become a little girl
and now,
- fueled my nightmare machine for weeks.
