What is the deal with everything plugging into the Wii remote? It's super annoying. Pretty soon they're going to be telling us that we have to be plugged into the Wii remote and be turned into an army of Nintendo cyborgs. That must be why they called it the Wii (we).
@dowingba: At least in this case, they're -USB- rechargable. Meaning, the USB jacks on the back of the Wii get some use (I use them to recharge my MP3 player, so I don't need to keep my PC on all the time).
@SilverStar95: Yeah that sounds like a good feature. Except you still rely on the Wiimote's batteries to even use this thing. Granted you can get rechargeables or even one of those 3rd party chargers. Point is...why couldn't they just make the damn controller rechargeable out of the box?
I was disappointed with the classic controller. Why the cord comes out of the bottom of the controller versus the top is beyond me. Plus the analog sticks just don't feel like they belong.
@NeoAkira: Convenience? Never heard of it. You seem pretty smart, though-- care to explain?
A good answer would have been the lack of battery dependence. Admittedly, I don't know why I didn't think of that, duh. But a less smartass answer-- one that you had to go back and correct, since dangling has absolutely nothing to do with it-- would have sufficed.
But yes I will explain. Instead of having to turn on my Wii, take out my wiimote, take out Nyko's classic controller and plug the receptor into the Wiimote. I would just turn on my Wii and take out Nyko's controller.
Here, let me make this easier for you as I fell I might have already confused you.

ah, the classic controller... truly the wii's bastard child. I wish Nyko well with this, the salad shooter of video game accessories. If anyone realizes that a sideways wiimote or wireless GCN controller do the same thing for about 99% of games, for (probably) a lot less money, Nyko will be lucky to get $5 for these doo-dads.
@CaptaiNeNN: Well, a wavebird will cost you about $35 on ebay and a sideways wiimote won't work for most VC games. This actually seems like a fantastic product and Nyko had been known to make quality peripherals.
@CaptaiNeNN: Yeah, but I have to disagree with the sideways wiimote. Holding that thing sideways sucks, but it works. I have the Classic Controller, which is okay, but it'd be sweeter if there were actual "NES" and "SNES" controllers (wireless?) that would be created to work with the Wii...something that feels more solid.
@TheGuilty1: gamestop sells another wireless gc controller for $20, at which point the pricing is probably even. So it would be a tossup between whether you're going to be playing more SNES or GC/n64 games (I know CC will work for N64, but it's kinda awkward).
I guess it would be different if the classic controller worked for everything, but this seems like a bit of a niche product, which comes down to my conceptual issue with the classic controller.
Also, I didn't mean to slam Nyko. It looks like a well-made product for what it is. It just seems like a manufactured need to me. YRMV. Sorry.
@ninja_warrior: Really? I kinda like it. It's never felt awkward or off to me. I actually really prefer it.
I do think you're onto something, though. I'm surprised no one has realized that people who wanted to play the old games would want to do so though on something that felt like the old controllers. A replica would be a nice idea. Not one I'd buy, but...
@koenn: I've done exactly that and you're right that it sucks... so it really depends on what your game 'mix' is whether the CC will work for you, as I think I wrote above. It just seems excessive to pay for a controller like that which could potentially only work with half of your games. If you've got a lot of SNES games, that could obviously be different.
Those wireless controllers GameStop sells are by Mad Catz and are a piece of CRAP. I've never liked ANYTHING by Mad Catz...
Nyko, though? They're alright. I got their Megaman X controller for GameCube and Shadow the Hedgehog controller for PS2, and they're pretty good. And in the case of the MMX GCN controller, it was officially licensed by Nintendo in addition to Capcom. Not often does Nintendo license third-party accessories (outside of Hori's products, which are top-notch).

too bad i don't attach monetary value the ability to rid my lap of a remote.
even if i did, i'd have to weigh the cost of the extra batteries against it.
@dowingba: agreed; batteries suck
first thing i thought, even before release, about all the wireless controllers:
"nintendo, sony, microsoft and ENERGIZER...they're in cahoots!"
i bought a pretty good battery charger and rechargables when i got a wii,
and it comes in handy for all sorts of other things including rock band 2.
the rockband bundle came packaged with energizer coupons, by the way.

@SilverStar95: wii is a great charge station for me too
don't get me wrong, i love the console,
but lately i've come to think of it as a gamer's usb charge box.

True enough except for the Sony part. The PS3 controllers have a built in battery that charges via an included (way too short) USB cable.

If the wire came out of the top of the controller, then the Wii Remote it's attached to would be pulling it down, possibly damaging it.

The difference being you don't have a wiimote dangling off your controller. It's a little something called convenience.
11/11/08
er, I didn't mean dangling, but that your controller isn't dependent on a wiimote.
