You didn't even check the leaderboards before deciding to write an article, the sitting down, writing the article proof-read it, consult the editor and then posting said article??
@haran_elessar: We all constantly do things without checking all possible details beforehand. We also all make mistakes. Only occasionally does this backfire on us.
The fact is, the man quickly issued an apology and corrected himself, which is a much greater feat than never making a mistake.
I really loathe the "reporting" of rumors, unconfirmed hearsay, and the like which unfortunately Kotaku itself does from time to time. It's not that print is dead -- journalism is dead. We report and blow up allegations which destroy lives. We read about late disproved rumors which hurt sales and businesses. The editorial process as it once existed is long gone. Now, in the mad rush for timeliness in this instant demand Internet age, it's shoot first, ask questions later.
I will say that this is a minor instance of such a practice and almost trivial, but I'm writing this rant to not so much chide you for doing this but rather for taking the time to post such a lengthy retraction. That is all too rare these days. While this unfortunate practice will likely continue -- it's probably impossible to go back due to demands of the business and public -- it is nice to see this follow-up, particularly for something many would dismiss as a trivia matter and at best posted the correction on the original topic, now buried within the depths of Kotaku.
@pd771: Is this one of the cases where the game is better than the movie though? I've no interest in anything Michael Bay does, but I've heard some good things about the game. Seems a little odd I guess. Apparently the Wolverine movie was one big suckfest, but I had a lot of fun with the game.
The movie isn't bad at all...its a mindless, blow everything up action flick...that's what they wanted to do, and they did it. Michael Bay is all about the "entertainment" in his movies...he doesn't set out to make Oscar winning titles, just ones that you can sit down with a group of friends and ENJOY for a few hours. But apparently some people don't like the ALL ACTION and NO SUBSTANCE formula...to those people I ask this...if you hate his movies so much, why in Gods name do you keep going to see them? There NOT for everyone...
@LegendofMyth: Actually, they ARE for everyone. Only snobs and assholes nitpick Michael Bay movies. Explosions, jump cuts, zoom ins, slow motion rotation shots and at least one extra hot girl. Boom. Throw in 3-5 decent 80s style one liners and you just described every Michael Bay film ever made.
lol...after reading your reply, I have to agree with you...way to many people nitpick his stuff. I'm not saying he is a god at directing movies...just that he has a particular style to them that's just entertaining to watch. I don't need to cry or "feel" attached to any of the characters to enjoy stuff...sometimes, I just want a good old entertaining movie...no strings attached. That's what Michael Bay does best. Kinda like a one night stand?
PS ~ I also enjoy movies that make you cry and think...Michael Bay just scratches a particular itch, you know?
@LegendofMyth: I am a big Transformers fan, and I like mindless action movies as much as the next mindless action movie fan... But 'Formers 2 IS bad. It is very, very bad. And I liked the first one a lot. But the second one ruined everything by having too many "silly" robots. They were cringeworthy and ruined the whole film. Like a fairly tasty cake with a giant turd baked through it. The good bits are okay but I won't touch them, there's shit in there.

The worst part of that movie was Sam getting to the NEST team. Jesus, that took FOREVER.

Ya...the movie was long. If they would have cut it up a little, and compacted it together, it would have been better...
never said it was perfect...just said it wasnt bad.

...what the HELL? It's easy to see with regular games being released or not, but why should we even PAY for free stuff?!

It's enough to make Charlie Brooker cry.
