2K Boss: Wii Market Is Full Of Crap
Bioshock Could See Upwards Of Five Sequels, Story Willing

But, it's Nintendo, they're so freaking huge there isn't ANY way they'd make the same mistakes. I can't even imagine any of the big three dropping out...ever. Nintendo may just be a games company, but they're so massive and popular. Sony has tons of other electronics to keep them afloat(despite their first loss in five years), and MS has that windows thing.
At the same time, I can't imagine anybody breaking onto the console scene, easily at least. With an increasingly expensive cost to produce better and better machines, unless someone has a huge backing, they wouldn't make a dent, and would end up like the many failed handhelds that have come up over the years. Apple has done a great job of trojan-ing their phone into people's hands, and then sneaking games on it, which happen to be sorta great.

So does he mean that it was a really crappy christmas?

Yes, there is a predominance of crapware on the Wii, but if people weren't buying it, this wouldn't be true. Look into the mirror, people!
Therefore, I think that either 1) people need to research their purchases beforehand, or 2) they WANT these crappy minigame titles.
And to blame Nintendo for all of this doesn't make much sense. They aren't making anything considered shovelware, really-- it's the 3rd-parties that are. Nintendo does apparently license these crap games, but again-- they are making money, right?
So, I'm with Soldier in that a third-party who recognises the massive amount of Wii shovelware but doesn't use this as an 'in', is just full of beans and hot air (maybe hot air caused by beans?). Why not position yourself as THE 3rd-party who makes quality games?
Oh, that's right, because it's easier to just bitch about it.

Asking casuals to read gaming press is to ask them to cease being casuals (by definition). It's a circular argument. So much for Rebochan's definition of "LOGIC".

The question that I have is: "If a company's rep jeers the amount of 'shovelware' existing within a platform, why not advise said company to become a leading edge for said platform and make tons of dough from the more dedicated users/owners/players?"
Just entertaining the gripe.

@RedYetti: Problem is, lots of longtime gamers picked up the Wii at launch as well - I know I did. And it seemed promising. But then then Nintendo put up their casual campaign, and their longtime customers who expected the same quality they got on the N64 and GCN were screwed over.

The Wii is for little girls. Face it, most of the titles are completely geared to 8 year old girls. I give you exhibit A & B... the Petz and Imagine line of games for not only Wii but DS.

I don't know if all my years of gaming has narrowed my choice or made me a bitter gamer, but normally I can stare at a wall endlessly picking the order of games I would want. Out of two walls of games, the only two that stood out to me was De Blob and Blox, that is pretty pathetic.
01/14/09
Having bought a Wii for my daughter and I this Xmas, I bought a bunch of games 12 - 15 of them and as far as I can tell, the best games for it are multi-platform games suchas as Rockband2, Guitarhero, & Shaun White Snowboarding, or Th Wii Fit which wii use for the SW Snowboarding game.
There are some exceptions though like De Blob, Game Party, SMG, Zelda, SMK, and SMB.
and after all was said and done, I spent as much on the Wii after buying all of the accesseries (xtra 2-part controllers, Battery Chargers, wireless this-and-thats), as I would have buying a PS3 or 360.
lesson learned. we still have fun with it, but for how long I wonder....
I've already rented 3 games that I immediately took back to the store because the controls completely sucked or didn't work as well as I would have liked, making my enjoyment of the game die quickly.
just my experience

Oh dear what have you done? The masses of Nintendo fanboys will rape this post!
Anyhoo it's not Full of Crap. It's.
He is right you know.
Now that you mention it, this is the first time I noticed that yes, videogame websites are disregarding most of the Wii's games for review unless it's a significant one.
Oh and the comparison to the 2600? Creepy! So if there was a new videogame crash it'd be Nintendo's fault?!
Just stroking the fire kids...=)

01/14/09
When is nintendo actually going to be part of this generation
01/14/09
It's not Nintendo's fault, they've put out more quality games for the Wii than almost every other developer combined. If anyone is to blame, it's third party developers and publishers.
01/14/09
Oh and the comparison to the 2600? Creepy! So if there was a new videogame crash it'd be Nintendo's fault?!
I read that differently. My understanding was that, if one assumes shovelware contributed significantly to the decline of the 2600, the Wii could suffer the same fate if they don't limit the amount of bad games taking up shelf space.
01/14/09
I took the original post to mean that it is Nintendo's fault for letting all the shovelware through.
01/14/09
Oh and they don't need to be a part of this generation...They created their own!
@TimDJ84: No, not really. I have massive callouses from all the manly things I do...(by manly I mean jerk off until I fall asleep).
@Daisuash: They didn't actually "dry" the market. They just deemed the casual market is the more significant one. Oh and as for the innovation for the Wiimote? Do they even need to properly implement it? From the looks of things, no they don't...=)
@Silhouette2501: I agree with your points. Thing is, Nintendo isn't really helping sway 3rd party devs' stance on things. I mean Wii music and Wii-Fit,Animal Crossing (the recent ones I remember) isn't exactly helping...
@doubtful: Yep...=D
@GHill4Life: I played my Wii (teehee that never gets old!) a lot during the first 2 weeks I bought. Naturally I had friends over and whatnot but as was the case with a lot of people, it now sits on a corner. Unplayed for months...
@m0m0: Oh but they still have their fanboys! (almost anything does!) Cue 'em in 3...2...1...And enter!

"Oh and the comparison to the 2600? Creepy! So if there was a new videogame crash it'd be Nintendo's fault?!"
That's right, and the PC wil flourish just like it did in the years following the 2600 crash. And when consoles make their come back, they'll have to work hard to get the old developers back.

The Wii/2600 analogy is pretty spot on. The only real difference is that the 2600 was an open platform. Nintendo actually has the power to stop this unmitigated crap, but they won't.
The Wii is cheap, popular and easy, both for consumers and developers. While this should be a positive aspect, Murphy's Law dictates...

01/14/09
Everything else just isn't quite up to par. I'm looking forward to 2009, though.
01/14/09
01/14/09
True. Even though I had the Wii as a gift, I still haven't purchased many games as I had for my PS3. Thank goodness to WiiGator.
01/14/09
Oh! You mean everyone clamors to make stuff for the most popular console of a generation? And this generation they all got caught with their pants down because they assumed Sony would be the king forever? I can't imagine how that might have contributed to the problem...
Mario, Zelda, or... crap? Whatever. In addition to Mario Galaxy, Super Paper Mario, Twilight Princess, Smash Bros. Brawl, and Link's Crossbow Training, I've got No More Heroes, Okami, Bully, and Zack & Wiki that I'd characterize as "must haves." I also have Dokapon Kingdom, Mario/Sonic Olympics, Wii Sports, and Wii Play for my kids (ages 5 and under). Games I don't have but can recommend to particular audiences include Boom Blox, Mario Strikers, World of Goo...
"The Wii has no games" is pure fanboy whining. Between my Wii and my PC (for Fallout 3, GTA4, Mass Effect, etc.), the only must-have game I feel like I've really missed this generation is Eternal Sonata and maybe MGS4.

The words before the comma and the words after it seem to be from two completely different sentences. Somoone should fix that.
01/07/09
I want innovation in games yes but if a game is done right as Bioshock is (I think a lot of people will agree with that). Then I don't see what's wrong as long as they churn out quality titles.
He even said so himself that they won't make a Bioshock game for the sake of one.
If the story and gameplay holds up, I'm there! No, I don't automatically think every franchise should end in trilogies.
