"Christian Bale Likes 'Metal Gear,' Doesn't Like Talking"
Christian Bale appears to get annoyed during interviews and such and becomes irritable. It's unfortunate that some stars aren't the way you think they are. The nicest movie star I've seen in the past few years was Hugh Jackman.
So he's stated he plays a video game. One. Metal Gear Solid. And when he's pressed for more information he calls it an irrelevant waste of time.
So, he's a fucking liar. Not surprising, but the more I learn about Christian Bale the more I'm convinced he's a sleaze bag. Glad I didn't pay to see any of his recent movies.
@[ZTF]214A, 2A, 5A, 5B, 5C, 5D, 214B, 214D: That goes without saying but IMO he could potentially pull off the role. Facial hair and proper makeup would even work out the "baby face" he has. The biggest problem is that while he may be a "good" voice actor (and I use the term loosely - as much as I love Hayter's voice work, it isn't particularly good acting), that may or may not translate into live action acting. And I'd lean towards not.
Honestly Bale is probably my number one pick for the role. I vaguely remember reading Kojima saying he wanted Viggo Mortensen to play the part, although I always found that to be a strange choice.
Ironic that the man who played John Connor is being talked to about playing the man whose orignal image was based on the image of Connor's own father from the original Terminator.
Boy, that Bale is just a laugh a minute! And he's so thought-provoking too. You can tell he really prepares for his interviews. You stay classy, Mr. Bale.
@Musika13: If you watch the interview (click on the link), you'll see what Sir-Lucius was talking about. He sorta didn't want to talk about, as he said in the last line of the video (which Ashcraft left out). He still comes off sorta douchey though, by reading what he's said.
@crabperson: Yeah the fact that he states that he prefers to keep what he does outside of his work private changes the whole tone of the conversation. He really just sounds annoyed that he's being asked questions that are largely irrelevant to what he has done as an actor.
@Sir-Lucius is sappin' your sentry: "Yeah the fact that he states that he prefers to keep what he does outside of his work private changes the whole tone of the conversation"
So what you're saying is.... he's Japanese (and not an otaku / maniac / kid / currently posting on 2ch.net / alumnus of an American University / alumnus of an "international school" etc.)
@Hello Mister Walrus: If he doesn't like it he can stop being a movie star and earn a normal wage like the rest of us. If you were a celebrity headlining numerous movies, doing interviews, getting your picture taken on the red carpet, making your money off a public that follows you, and you got annoyed at the media covering you, then we'd all call you a douchebag as well. The man's in a line of work that depends on people watching him, he's in the public gaze, he isn't giving it up to work in an office because hey, this gig pays too well, thanks all your people who see my movies and buy magazines for my interviews and buy the products I promote. He doesn't get to act put out.
He is a dick. It's been seen again and again. This is just another example. A complete lack of grace.
@Indigen: Then don't watch his movies, or go organize some anti-Christian Bale neighborhood protest. I don't care if he is a dick - it does not affect me in any way. I watch movies if they are entertaining, not because of what I think about the people who make them.
The fact that millions of people watch Christian Bale movies despite his behavior off camera reinforces my point. Despite all their bitching, people still value his ability to entertain them more than they value his treatment of reporters.
@Hello Mister Walrus: None of which has anything to do with what I said. People watch him. That doesn't change the fact that he's an ungraceful turd who wrongly seems to feel aggrieved at people for all kinds of things, shouts and bawls frequently, gives antagonistic interviews, bullies his family and everyone else, is angry at his own publicity and generally has a major anger problem unbefitting a multimillionaire off the backs of the public. He lacks class of any kind.
Incidentally, 'people' will also stop to watch a horse piss in the street.
@Indigen: My whole point is that your whining serves no purpose. It is a waste of your time. Boycotting Christian Bale in movies is arguably a productive way to "punish" actors if you believe that they should be punished for having poor manners. I think you need a cold shower.
@spigeddie: I guess. He would've been a perfect Gambit in the Wolverine movie, but I suppose he'd be an alright Snake. I say just go with David Hayter. And let him write it too.
I've gotta admit it really doesn't look like him in Empire of the Sun but there is a three year gap there and he may have changed a bit between 8 and 11.
Then again who's to say this is the Pac-Man cereal commercial that had Christian Bale in it? We only know he was in one and the only thing telling us that it's this one is the YouTube video, not exactly a reliable source.
Might be, at the end of the day it doesn't really matter and I'm not sure why this is on Kotaku. Wow, it's a retro Pac-Man commercial with an incredibly overrated actor in it. Who cares?
I really don't wanna be one of those "This isn't news" douche nozzles but this is really pushing it. Then again I'm sitting up at 1:20 in the morning taking part in a conversation as to whether or not that is in fact Christian Bale in that particular commercial so what's that say about me?

[bales mind: What the .. metal gear? Is that a game?]
Bale: No.
MTV: Are you a video game fan?
[bales mind: Oh shit, is being a gamer a good thing now? I'd better go along with this]
Bale: Yeah.
MTV: What do you play?
[bales mind: Ah crap, busted ... wait! what was that game he just said?]
Bale: That. Metal Gear Solid.
MTV: You play it?
[bales mind: Keep it cool chris, you can do this]
Bale: Yeah.
MTV: How many hours does that suck out of you on a weekly basis?
[bales mind: damn it! he knows ... guess I've gotta confess now]
Bale: You know what, no, I've kinda devoted my time to more constructive things of late. You know?
[bales mind: yeaah .. how do you like that!?]

I'm sure that's exactly how it went. He did get busted when they ask "how many hours does it suck out of you on a weekly basis." lol XD

Whatever happened to that lovable kid from the Newsies, or the good actor from Equilibrium and American Psycho.....
I just wish he would act better (Both on and off the screen).

I think he played a pretty good Bruce Wayne as well. His batman voice is a little silly though.
