Asked by MTV Multiplayer if Nintendo was disappointed by Chinatown Wars' showing, Dunaway said:

It's frustrating, quite frankly. Certainly there have been mature titles - Resident Evil, the first Call of Duty - that have sold over a million units and with something like GTA, there's great content there. We do think it'll have a long tail and we've seen that with a lot of titles across all genres on the DS platform that consumers continue to discover them. par. But part of what's needed is you have to continue to put marketing support behind these titles. It's one of the things we've learned over the past few years. The old dynamic of throw it on TV for a few weeks and forget it isn't going to work, because new consumers are coming in all the time.

<![CDATA[Chinatown Wars Ad Gives Brief Glimpse of Gameplay]]> It's a free ad for GameStop, but since we haven't seen any Chinatown Wars gameplay, it qualifies as interesting. So does the pre-order lure: Start the game with $10K and the best weapons.

This ad had been running in Late Night With Conan O'Brien - which just aired its last episode last night. Wonder where else this will be popping up.

<![CDATA[GTA DS Bigger Than GTA PSP, Say Rockstar]]> The GTA games on PSP did a great job of cramming lots of stuff onto a UMD. Yet as big an achievement as that was, Rockstar think they can do better.

And what's more, do better on the DS. Speaking with Nintendo Power, Rockstar Leeds boss Gordon Hall says "We are very proud of all of the PSP games we have made, especially the two GTA games, but this game is far bigger". Really?

Really. Hall says that thanks to the addition of more jobs, the drug-trading mini-game and "more moments of over-the-top action", Chinatown Wars should eclipse the bar set by Liberty & Vice City Stories.

Granted, that bar isn't that high - the PSP combat controls undid the games' technical achievements - but it's comforting to know Rockstar are putting their shoulder to the wheel regardless.

<![CDATA[DS Touch Screen 'Used Extensively' In GTA: Chinatown Wars]]> The folks over at 1up spoke with Gordon Hall of Rockstar Leeds, the developer behind Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars for the DS.

In the interview, Hall describes how the touch screen interface will be used in the game, or more specifically, how much. Besides allowing access your PDA for things like checking your e-mail or ordering weapons, players will be doing a lot of tapping and scratching when it's needed.

"Outside of the PDA, you also use the touch screen to fill in those little details left out of most console games. You may find yourself in a minigame hotwiring a car or breaking into a warehouse by disabling a key-code lock. We also use the touch screen for more everyday events like buying and using [lottery] scratchcards. Everywhere it felt right to use the touch screen, we've done so."

Hall also noted that while there will be plenty of touching going on, the driving controls will still be used by the d-pad. Thank goodness! Now we just need to see if there are any prostitute minigames involving use of the stylus. (Yeah, I went there)

<![CDATA[First GTA: Chinatown Wars Screens [Updated]]]> On Thursday, McMike slipped you a batch of details from Nintendo Power regarding Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, which will be a bona fide M-rated sandboxer for the Nintendo DS when it drops (sometime before Feb. 2009) Well, Gamekyo (formerly JeuxFrance) has the November edition of the magazine in its possession, and five screenshots. If you'll excuse the halftone screen, which fuzzes up the graphics, you can get an idea of the cel-shaded graphics and isometric camera angle. All seven are in a gallery on the jump.

UPDATE: Nintendo Everything has shit-tons more screens at better resolutions. They lead the gallery.
