I'm really excited about it too. Hopefully Battlefield 1943 will keep me satisfied till release but I doubt it. It just doesn't have enough shit to blow up.
First the movie and TV industry takes the spotlight at Comic-Con, now Microsoft and LucasArts making big game announcements there... I'm starting to worry a little that there won't be much limelight left for comics at... COMIC con.
@Bastard11: That wouldn't even be a Day One purchase - that'd be a Minute One purchase.
With the possible exception of the space expansion in Galaxies (which I've never played, unfortunately), I can't think of any Star Wars games that had large-scale multiplayer space battles. I'm not sure if there'd be a good way to make it work and, more importantly, make it fun...but if there is they'd have a surefire hit on their hands.
Unsurprisingly the old game and the basic concept lend themselves quite well to large scale battles. Look to MAG and KILLZONE 2 for some inspiration. Squads would work well playing with your friends. AI or ranked player would give orders and assign objectives.
The only thing you'd really lose out on are the smaller missions IDing cargo containers and whatnot.. it would always have to be some massive scale conflict. Death Star II would probably be the most played scenario. ;p
Of course who would be crazy enough to fly an unshielded TIE Fighter in such a huge scale conflict? Need something to balance that out. Maybe AI wingmen that will always take a missle for you? ;)
Maybe not at Comic Con, but I'm expecting SW: The Force Unleashed 2 to be announced any day now. After all, how many units did the first one sell? It might not make sense from a story perspective, but it definitely does to someone looking at corporate earnings
@GilesCeler: Actually... now that you mention it, all of our collective desires aside, Force Unleashed 2 is indeed the most likely announcement.
Story'd be a bitch, but it was actually one of the most creative things about the first. Plenty of places for another bridge-the-gap moment in the overall timeline, or you could play as the escaped beard of Kyle Katarn or something.
@Blore07: Go play the Knights of the Old Republic series. It is full of whimsy and magic. Especially Jedi Academy. Empire at War was pretty good too.
Lucasarts feels to me like a company who is more interested in churning out the quick cheap product, all in the name of profits. I dont know when this happened either, they used to be so good.
What the world needs is a new Jedi Knight game. Jedi Outcast is in the Top 3 of The Best Star Wars games ever made alongside with KOTOR and some other Star Wars game... I don't know... let's just say Yoda's Story.
Anyway, Jedi Knight was brilliant and seeing a new game starring Kyle Katarn would cause a level VII nerdgasm-earthquake on the Richter scale.
@Archaotic: And the world entirely revolves around you and not the rest of us that were really happy that LucasArts decided to stop screwing with us for nine years and greenlit games that aren't Star Wars.
@Rebochan: I don't know, I don't seem to see this discussion being about their other IPs...it's about Star Wars games.
I don't know how they do it, but they manage to continuously fuck up leveraging the easiest IP in the world. It's Star Wars, for God's sake, and they just CAN'T get it right anymore.
After last weeks "Big" announcement was just some old games coming to steam, I'm not going to get too excited about this. I'll wait until they actually say what it is.
You might not be a fan, but judging from the hype around Monkey Island there's still a large crowd of adventure game fans. Seeing the legal release of The Dig, the Indy games, and everything else - games that, in some cases, had been legally unobtainable for the past decade or longer - was a huge deal.
@(Zombie) Jolan: Hey, semi related to your post, is Sam and Max on XBLA any good? I'm seriously considering it but I haven't played through too many point and click adventures (but I liked the show). Or should I get monkey island?
@NeVeRMoRe666: Sam & Max is an incredible game, not so much the gameplay, the dialogue and the characters alone are worth the purchase. That being said Monkey Island is just a classic...Buy both =D Sam and Max then Monkey Island
@Marios_shadow: @Ryan from ElectricGorillas: Thanks for the advice.! I just went out and bought 2 1400 MS point cards (you actually spend an extra .01 cents when you buy a 2800 card-although thats not the reason I did- I'M NOT THAT CHEAP!). I think I'm going to pick up Sam and Max and if I get as hooked on point and click adventuring as I think I would, I'll be sure to get monkey island.

I never played the first one (I think I was burned out on FPS at the time) but I heard some great things about it.
I might consider picking #2, just to see what's up with this franchise.

Oh of course it is. It's awesome to see a planes dog fighting above you snipe your enemies from across the map. It's addicting but I want more.

It wasn't as bad as Superman Returns, but it was pretty bad.
