The previously mentioned Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow showing at the Leipzig Games Convention is simply a mobile phone remake of the Game Boy Advance release of the same name. However, Konami also announced it would be bringing an all-new original Castlevania, known as Castlevania: Order of Shadows, to mobile carriers AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon Networks, among others, this September.

The game follows the adventures of a new character Desmond Belmont, which means the Castlevania series entry on Wikipedia is just about due for an argument on canon. More details on the development and associate blog for the both of you interested in mobile gaming after the jump.

KONAMI INTRODUCES ORIGINAL CONTENT FOR THE MOBILE PLATFORM BASED ON THE COMPANY'S TOP VIDEOGAME FRANCHISES

Konami Mobile's First Original, Castlevania®: Order of Shadows Available in September On All Major Carriers

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — August 23, 2007 - Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. underscored its commitment to the mobile games market today by announcing the development of original content specifically for mobile phones, based on the company's legendary videogame brands. Featuring never-before-seen game play, storyline features and original music, Castlevania: Order of Shadows for the mobile platform will be available on September 18 on most major carriers, including AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon Networks.

"As a worldwide leader in high quality, multi-platform videogames, Konami is looking to raise the entertainment standard of games for mobile phones," said Joe Morris, Vice President of Konami Mobile. "Mobile technology has exploded, providing powerful new tools to enhance today's mobile gaming experiences. Konami's esteemed game developers will be creating original titles based on the company's top franchises including Castlevania, Metal Gear Solid Mobile, Contra and others."

Castlevania: Order of Shadows is the latest chapter in the popular videogame series, designed exclusively for the mobile platform. Developed in collaboration with franchise mastermind Koji Igarashi (aka "IGA"), the game breathes new life into the Belmont family bloodline with fresh adventures, characters and perils. Featuring updated abilities and spells, unique enemies, original songs and full screen particle effects, the title takes mobile gaming to new heights.

To give consumers a direct connection to Konami Mobile's development team and insight to upcoming game titles, the company has launched the "Developer's Corner" on its Web site, www.konamimobile.com. The first installment of the Developer's Corner will feature a blog written by Castlevania: Order of Shadows' lead game designer, Tyrone Rodriguez, discussing the genesis of the title, working with IGA on his vision for a mobile Castlevania game, and Konami's aspirations for improving mobile gaming experiences. Also featured on the website will be mobile game emulators as well as art and video, so consumers can sample the new games before purchasing them.

Castlevania: Order of Shadows will launch for the mobile platform on September 18, 2007. For more information, please visit www.konamimobile.com.

<![CDATA[Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow, Silent Hill Orphan To Make Appearances At Leipzig]]> The German equivalent of North America's ESRB, the Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle, has issued some interesting new ratings on a trio of Konami titles due to be previewed at this month's Leipzig Games Convention. You may remember the USK revealing the name of the next World of Warcraft expansion, Wrath of the Lich King, issuing a rating on the then-officially untitled expansion pack. Today, the USK listed new ratings for three trailers scheduled to be shown at Leipzig: Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow, Silent Hill Orphan, and Metal Gear Solid 4—all, strangely enough, for the PC.

That the three are listed as for the PC may simply be in error, as the trailers themselves may just be shown non-interactively played from a PC. However, the USK also specifies that some trailers specified for Games Convention will be shown on a DVD-Player. On the other hand, there are plenty of titles, such as Crash of the Titans, Escape From Bug Island and Pro Evolution Soccer 2007 Mobile, that have rated trailers with a system specification of PC, releases that sound unlikely.

Still, why show a new trailer for Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow at Leipzig when the Game Boy Advance version was released in Europe over four years ago? Is Konami pursuing yet another Castlevania remake? Are they readying a Game Boy Advance collection for some other platform? Whatever the theory, it's a curious new entry.

The next rating for Silent Hill Orphan may reveal either the final name of Silent Hill V or the European localized name of the PSP prequel Silent Hill Origins. It's also possible this is a new product altogether, as it too is listed for the PC.

Finally, the Metal Gear Solid 4 Games Convention trailer has been rated by the USK, dubbed the "Camp Trailer." It is also, as specified earlier, listed as for the PC. The last Metal Gear Solid to makes its way to PCs courtesy of Konami was Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance.

As already mentioned, just because these trailers are listed for the PC doesn't necessarily mean they're coming to that platform. We'll keep an eye on these three titles and will be in contact with Konami USA in an attempt to learn more about the listings.

<![CDATA[Gamestop Knowingly Selling Counterfeit Games?]]>

Our good Gawker buddies over at the Consumerist, while remaining total assholes, did manage to spot a fascinating gamer-related story in between all their kvetching about exploding laptop batteries and fruit-flavored Cheerios: at least one Gamestop out there is knowingly selling counterfeit Nintendogames.

The complaint comes via Curmudgeon Gamer, who tried to buy a copy of Aria of Sorrow second-hand from a local Gamespot. He quickly spotted it was a counterfeit and schooled the loquacious pimple behind the counter about how you spot a fake cartridge.

Me: First key was the label. That one doesn't look like the one I own. Then when I looked at the contacts, I didn't see the word "Nintendo" on the circuit board. Look here at Game A. [I hand him Game A, pointing at circuit board]

Dude: Whoa. [he takes Aria of Sorrow from me] You're right, it doesn't say "Nintendo". That's cool.

Me: Yeah. If you peel the price sticker off, you can probably tell the back of the cartridge is slightly different. And if you take the case apart you'll see a nasty cheap battery and a blop of black epoxy or something over the main chip.

Dude: Whoa. Learned something tonight! [he hands back Game A, puts Aria of Sorrow back in case] As long as it's just between you and me, no problem, right? [he closes case]

Well, now it's between you, Curmudgeon Gamer and 200,000 Kotaku readers. But we'll be quiet, won't we, guys?
