Also big is the PC case modding scene, which got plenty of real estate at Gamescom.

The Germans, specifically the ones exhibiting at the Deutsche Casemod Meisterschaft booth, get a little kooky with the casemodding. Whether they're wedging a computer into Spongebob Squarepants' back or building miniature skate parks to house their hardware, the quality is usually top notch.

Not sure about that leather couch case mod though. Why the lasers? Why the fog machine? Why?!

It's cheese!
It's a mini skate park!
It's a refrigerator!
It's a tire!
It's a.... FIFA 10 grill?
It's Aperture Science!
It's an Xbox 360!
It's lame!
It's green!
It's a television!
It's completely invisible! It also has a fish tank.
It's a couch! With lasers! And a fog machine! And a teddy bear! I don't get it!

<![CDATA[The Best Team Fortress 2 Dispenser Case Mod We've Ever Seen]]> The last Team Fortress 2 themed PC case mod we featured, one built to look like the Engineer's sentry gun, was as ludicrous as it was impressive. Hardware modder extraordinaire Ton "TiTON" Khodee has done it again, slipping the guts of a highly capable PC into a case that apes the Engie's dispenser. It's adorable.

Sure, having this kind of stuff sitting around your house might frighten the majority of visitors, but with the mounds of internet glory that await its creator, being shunned by your peers is a small price to pay. Bit-Tech has an extensive walk-through on the dispenser's creation, something we definitely recommend giving some eyeball time.

<![CDATA[Pretty Sure This Violates the Warranty]]> watercooled.jpgFrom reader Michael Hurt comes this: a watercooled Xbox 360. As casemods go, this one looks like someone locked the A-Team in a barn, Murdoch and B.A. improvised with some aquarium tank hose and an aerator, and the gang saved the day. I love it when a plan comes together.

My first instinct was to call b.s., on this, but then I don't know what the hell I am talking about, either in the realm of casemods or electrical engineering. And, clearly, there are holes in the top of the console where he's routed the cooling tubes. So it looks like he gave his 360 a cochlear implant. (Seriously, you ever seen an old geezer with one of those? Looks like Lobot from Star Wars.)

The guy who made this also laid a better heatsink on the power supply. Check the link for pics of that, and more. Now I'm wondering if I can get his phone number.

<![CDATA[Return of the Dead Beaver Case Mod]]> Previously we featured the Compubeaver, and it is again in moving pictures. Well, the pictures are moving, but the dead beaver is very still. Dead, too. Compubeaver [Boing Boing]]]> http://kotaku.com/index.php?op=postcommentfeed&postId=354142&view=rss&microfeed=true <![CDATA[These PS3 Casemods Are Ridiculous]]> First up: Rainbow Six Vegas. OK, so it's less of a casemod and more of an everything-around-it-mod, but you have to admit: it's pretty amazing. It's Vegas! Built around a PS3! With casinos, and sexy Vegas lighting, and little pedestrians, and more casinos, and even a little SWAT truck for the Rainbow Six lads to kick back in after a job well done.

acps3.jpg Second: Assassin's Creed. As you can probably tell. So, so, so fantastic. Both of these are the work of German casemodder Butterkneter, and you can do worse things today than check out his site for other examples of his craft.

<![CDATA[Elaborate Halo Case Mod]]> 360leuj.jpg 'Brooza' sent us a link to this pretty amazing Halo case mod. Me? Not a Halo person, but wow. The original post at Maxconsole says in part: "The creator is mentioned to be from the UK and is called 'Craget' with the following unit taking him 2 months to complete in his spare time. There are no internal modifications apart from the base cooler that he fitted with some LED's used to light up the case. The creator will soon put his creation up on eBay too." This is the sort of mod I'd love to see some step-by-step pictures of.

<![CDATA[A Casemod to Give Grandpa Flashbacks]]>

A tipper by the catchy handle of Jwalestrom went apeshit in our inbox this morning (in a nice way), and among the 6 enthusiastic bombs he dropped between 4:45AM and 5:33AM was this collection of Xbox casemods.

The mods were harvested by news site CyberNet from various xbox fora. My favorite is the one picture at right, which looks "as if the beleagured 360 just barely made it's way out of a minefield." Well said, Jwales.

<![CDATA[The Most Disturbing Case Mod EVER]]>

Bookmark this post. Whenever you're feeling down, feeling that your life is worth nothing, or trapped under a rock opting to die of dehydration instead of freeing yourself by severing your leg with your trusty pocketknife, reload this entry and take comfort in the fact that you are not responsible for the most disturbing PC case mod of all time. Do not give up. You have never been this low. Oh, sure, there may be some maladjusted son of a bitch out there working on an aborted fetus case mod, but until he puts pictures of said handiwork online, this one reigns supreme.

Not only is it a life-size replica of a cartoon character—Leela from Futurama—it has poseable legs, a removable thumb drive (in the removable thumb!) and a Web cam installed in the single oversized eyeball.

Yes, it is an inspired follow up to a very suitable and admirable Bender case mod project, but, people, some things must remain only inside your head.

Final warning: these pictures cannot be unseen.

<![CDATA[Portable Gamecube Stretches Definition Of The Former]]>

You know, we post these classic consoles go portable, but really, semantics can only stretch the definition of 'portable' into so thin a layer of adjectival smegma. Not to belabor the obvious, but everything is portable if size isn't a consideration.

The Gamecube portable is exactly as big as a GC with an LCD screen and a controller glued to it. It does not contain a portable battery, as that would have added over 600 grams to the weight... even without, it weighs over 2 kilos, which is enough to vaporize an entire city block if dropped from a tall enough building.

If we don't like it, Ben Hartland — the device's creator — invites us to "do better" with a Gamecube portable. I will as soon as I duct tape a Gamecube to the back of a 50 inch plasma screen.

<![CDATA[DS Phatter: Casemods of the Damned]]>

What the christ is this supposed to be?

Isn't the whole purpose of the DS or indeed, any handheld, that it's portable and comfortable to, ahem, port? And I await answers from no man! Of course it's the point.

The gorge rises in my throat as I contemplate the horror found on the pages displaying the results of a DS casemodding contest held by Japanese peripheral maker Keys Factory. Apparently this was an internal contest, with the resulting abominations being perpetuated exclusively by employees.

This is fortunate, as it gives us a centralized location (the Keys Factory employee lounge) to enter into the targeting system, and allows us to avoid undue collateral damage.

Thanks Chris for the tip. ...and I almost like the little green tank. ALMOST.
