<![CDATA[The Stuff Super Nintendo Nightmares Are Made Of]]> While most case mods are designed to improve the appearance of a games console - or at least tailor it to suit the whims of a more fickle owner - we don't see many that will make small children cry.

But, man, if I was four years old and saw this thing, it'd disturb me. And that's just during the day. At night, it glows green and bellows smoke like a the very gates of hell.

Oh, and despite it's horrific appearance, the "Game Over" Super Nintendo still works just fine.

<![CDATA[How To Make Your Wii A Little More Versatile (And A Lot LOUDER)]]> Do this, and you'll never have to complain about your Wii having no games to play ever again. Course, you'll also have voided your warranty. Actually, you'll have voided your entire Wii, since it's now nothing but a case for a loud VERY LOUD PC, but hey, some people will go to great lengths to make a point about the Wii and its supposedly limited uses. Pic of the guts (and the loud vid) after the jump if you're keen.

<![CDATA[The NES Case That's A NES That's Great]]> The premise is simple: take one NES cart, one NES, empty the working-bits from the NES, empty the NES cart, put the working-bits from the NES and squeeze them into the NES cart. Insert actual NES cart into NES cart NES, plug into TV, play Mario. Easy. It's the slimline NES we would have had if old Nintendo ever pulled a new Nintendo and released a slimmer, smaller NES, then released it in limited-edition, themed variants.

<![CDATA[Atlas Mech PC Case Mod]]>

Wow. I have a thing about PC case mods, I think they're cool as hell. So I'm always looking around for them, just because I like checking out the details and seeing how they were made. Call me a geek, but I sort of feel about modded PC cases the way car enthusiasts feel about rebuilt cars. I want to check out their guts, look at step-by-step pictures of how the thing was made.

A few weeks back I posted about Extreme Tech's case mod competition, posting pics of the Dragon Case mod, which was a thing of beauty. But this, this is just freakin cool, a PC case that looks like an Atlas Mech. Look at that thing! Hit the jump for more pics of this case that took more than a year to build.

Extreme Tech is having a month-long computer case mod contest. Each week the site picks a winner and then on August 20 they will announce the grand prize winner.

Last week's winner was this amazing Dragon Case, a computer case carved out of Black Walnut and painted. This thing is a work of art, especially the dragon. Hit the link for the case description and more photos of both the Dragon Case and the runners' up.

<![CDATA[Pimp My Beaver!]]>

I have seen case mods that glowed, had moving parts, looked like robots and any manner of other things, but this one really leaves all of those in the dust. The CompuBeaver was created by artist, Kasey McMahon , using an old piece of beaver taxidermy and yes, it really works. The foam insides were hollowed out and the eager beaver was tricked out with all kinds of gadgets and computerfied goodies including:

Intel Core 2 Duo processor - T7200 2.00 GHz 667 4MB 1.0375-1.3V
160G Hard drive - laptop drive
1G RAM - NBM 1G|PATRIOT DII667 PSD21G6672S R
Motherboard: AOpen Mini ITX A-I945GTT-VFA (RoHS) with external power supply
Panasonic UJ-85J 8X Slim DVD Burner
Tornado 80mm fan - ACCES FAN|80X38 3/4PTD8038H VTTD RT

Kasey has documented the whole incredible process in words and pictures on her website and it's truly a site to behold. That red button on his belly if the power switch. Anybody want to venture a guess where the fan is?

<![CDATA[The Only Zelda Wii Case Mod You'll Ever Need]]>

Pardon me while I pick my jaw up off the floor...

I have seen some case mods in my time here at Kotaku that were the envy of every gamer on the block. These mods are usually done with PS2s, Xboxes and 360s with the 360 seeming to be the most popular medium, but I haven't really seen any Wii mods that particularly impressed me. But this baby takes the cake! (much like Luke stole our precious game cakes away from us!)

This Zelda Wii was created by Ramon J. Stokes on whom I am now bestowing the title of "The King of Wii Mods" and is in full working condition. It is up for auction on eBay (yes this could be yours) and at the time of the writing of this article, the current bid is up to $1,125. With six days to go, I can only imagine the price will continue to climb as well it should for this masterpiece. What makes the deal even sweeter is that a portion of the proceeds from the sale will go to Penny Arcade's Child's Play Charity. So not only would you be the owner of possibly the greatest case mod ever, but you'd be donating to a worthy cause.

For all you gadget heads out there, Ramon has a full explanation of how he put this beauty together on his auction page along with a bunch of other pictures. And in case you were wondering, the sword and shield are the self same ones that came with the Limited Edition Twilight Princess soundtrack.

I bow to you Ramon, the King of Wii Mods. We are but your humble servants.

<![CDATA[The Return Of Chuckii]]>

Last weekend I brought you the colored Wii Nunchuck shells (lovingly dubbed Chuckii by it's creators at Extreme Enterprise) that will soon be available for customizing your Wii peripherals. Today, NDS announces a new nunchuck "color", Clear. Well, technically, "clear" isn't a color, but if you've ever felt the urge to see the inner workings of your nunchuck, now is your chance. The clear Chuckii shell will join the ranks of the other "clear" greats of our times, the clear neon telephone and the mother of all clear products, Pepsi Clear.

Make the jump to check out pictures of NDS's initial prototype for the Wii-mote shell, but be warned, it's not very pretty. However, as NDS reminds us: "This is only a prototype, you may not like what you see. These images are not suitable for unimaginative people."

Indeed...

<![CDATA[The Chuckii Project]]>

NDS-Central, creators of the sweet SHOCK DS Lite case mods are working their customization magic again, only this time, it's for the Wii peripherals! First up in the new line of mods is Chuckii, custom shells and controls for your Wii Nunchuck. The shells come in five colors: red, yellow, black, navy white with custom black buttons and thumbstick. Not exactly sre why you would want to purchase the white one, but hey, to each his own. Next week will see the release of similar shells for the Wii remote and one would assume at some point, a case for the Wii itself. You can see more detailed shots of the Chuckii shells on the company's Flickr Gallery.

<![CDATA[Awesome Gears of War 360 Case Mod]]>

Thing I hate about cool mods? They crap on my Plain Jane console. An individual over at the Xbox-Scene Forums has crafted this slick as hell Gears of War Xbox 360.

*Round of Applause*

Thanks for making my 360 look boring as hell. Mine, and pretty much everyone else's. Well, except for the dude with that Half-Life 2 case.

<![CDATA[Awesome Half-Life 2 360 Case Mod]]>

While most of the case mods I've seen should have remained a thought in the maker's head, this one is actually quite impressive. Pin Point over on the QJ forums is the mad genius behind this creation.

The Xbox 360 mod has a massive window cut in the top, and a further window and decal added to the DVD drive. There's an awesome layered logo on the bottom, and the console is designed to be stood up, with a fantastic paint job. It's a slick finish and the whole thing works really well, with some nice geometric shapes giving it a unique appeal

Nicely done, Pin Point! Make the jump for the another view.

<![CDATA[A "Clear" Answer For Crackage: The See Thru Casemod]]>

With some folks running into DS Lite crackage, now might be a good time to consider your options. Take this Shock! casemod, for example. Just gut your portable and put it in this clear plastic DS Lite case, on which the good taste jury is out. Or rather, don't. Cracks or not, the part of the Lite's appeal is the glossy color of the original cases.

<![CDATA[Fruit Fucker Case Mod Interview]]>

I spent a few minutes talking to Adam Allessandrini at the Penny Arcade Expo last week.

Allessandrini is the guy who created the Fruit Fucker case mode for the show. He's also the one who did the Anarchy case mod last year.

"Last year I came and made the Anarchy case mod because I thought it would be simple and easy to do," he said. "I had to out do myself this year, so I though the best possible thing to do would be the Fruit Fucker."

The mod took his team about three months to put together and it wasn't easy, but it was, of course, well worth it. The case itself cost about $500 in parts.

Initially the plan was to install an actual juicer inside the FF casemod and have it spew out the pulpy remains of the fuckified fruit into a glass, but that turned out to be a bit unachievable.

Besides, as Allessandrini points out, the Fruit Fucker is a juicer, it doesn't have one inside it.

So instead they installed a vat that can hold the juice. Allessandrini said they used water-cooling equipment to circulate the juice from vat to cup in a warm, frothy stream.

Allessandrini said the Hot Head Studios guys were talking about buying the case, which is about 5-feet tall, from them, but that he might end up giving it to Penny Arcade instead. He hinted that he was hoping for them to perhaps include him in a strip in exchange for the mod.

He ended up handing over the powercord to the FF computer to the guys during their second comic panel.

My money is on the guys auctioning it off during their annual Child's Play dinner. That could raise some serious cash for kids.

I did forget to ask Allessandrini what it was like when he first got the thing working. In my imaginings it was like something out of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, but with way more oranges.

<![CDATA[Duct Tape DS Wraps Itself in Fulgyness]]>

Eliza put out a call, and reader Chris answered. Unfortunately. Here is the ugliest DS case mod on this planet Earth. This oddly duct-taped DS was created by altometer1337 (oh, boy), a member of the Pocket Heaven forums. As soon as he finished wrapping his portable in duct-tap and coloring in the DS symbol with ball-point pen, altometer1337 posted this on Pocket Heaven, where everyone with eyes declared this case mod as truly hideous. Note that altometer1337's post signature is:

I'm really not all that 1337. I just screwed up my first acount.

Your DS, too. Oh, and you also misspelled "account."

<![CDATA[Don't Jump On This Koopa Shell]]>

Although the DS Lite on its own is obviously a lot more aesthetically pleasing than the original DS's more bloated, vaguely Soviet looking design motif, one interesting side effect of everyone replacing their old DSes is the sudden explosion of cool DS case mods we're seeing. Like this Koopa Troopa shell, designed by Penny Arcade forumer Kouri.

We got a chuckle out of 4CR's closing line in the post that drew our attention to this and we won't try to top it: "Please do not confuse this mod with an actual Koopa Troopa shell. Jumping on it repeatedly while on a stairway will not help you rack up infinite lives. It will just piss off your parents."

<![CDATA[Amazing Chopper PC Case Mod]]>

Now this is a computer case mod. The folks at Colorado-based Chopper Computers design cases that look like sexed up choppers, complete with custom paintjobs and, by the look of this photo, your very own motorcycle mama.

It doesn't look like they've gotten past creating this single prototype, but I'm very intrigued. I'm also frightened at how much this bad boy might run you.

The site walks you through the complete manufacturing process. The specs for both the innards and outtards of the chopper computer are on the jump along with a better, passenger-free, picture.
