Bakugan is big with the kids, or it was last time I checked, which was a year ago, so the Nintendo DS game based on the animated series should do rather well, especially now that Activision has revealed the Collector's Edition, which comes with a limited-edition Naga Bakugan toy, which they can immediately sell on eBay. No, really!

<![CDATA[Cartoon Network Eying Chinese Market for Casual Games]]> Just joining the rest of the world in pursuing the magical (giant) Chinese market, Cartoon Network has announced that it is commissioning SinoTech, a Beijing firm, to create games based on CN-owned properties as well as SinoTech IPs. The games will first be targeted at the pan-Asian site and a site localized for Taiwan, and may find their way to other localized Asian sites and an in-the-pipeline portal for mainland China:

The Turner-owned kids brand has commissioned SinoTech, a Beijing-based firm, to create online casual games based on its own characters as well as cartoon characters owned by SinoTech. The deal also gives SinoTech exclusive rights to sell ads around the games, with a focus on tapping new advertisers from China.

SinoTech will develop two games each month that can be deployed on Cartoon Network’s pan-regional site as well its localized site in Taiwan. The games they produce may find their way onto Cartoon Network’s other localized sites in Asia such as Japan and Korea, as well as on a mooted localized site for mainland China that's in the pipeline.

CN is looking for a piece of the casual Chinese pie, though it's doubtful they'll really be able to challenge QQ.com; still, CN execs are confident that their targeted kids market will give focus and direction to future marketing efforts.

This time around they're taking on the Trauma Center series with the game Alan Probe: Amateur Surgeon. Join Alan, a pizza delivery guy whose truck's faithful meeting with a former doctor leads him to give up his day job in favor of performing unauthorized surgery in a dirty clinic. Open the patient with your pizza cutter, remove glass with salad tongs, close them up with your stapler and then cauterize the wound with your Zippo! Other available tools include a corkscrew, a car battery, and an Etch-A-Sketch? All the fun of surgery with none of those silly hygiene guidelines - plus his name is an anagram for Anal Probe! <![CDATA[Fusion Fall, The Cartoon Network MMO Hands-On]]> The Cartoon Network decided to skip E3 2007, instead focusing on Comic Con to show off its massively multiplayer online game Fusion Fall. It brings the entirety of Cartoon Network intellectual property—from Ben 10, Power Puff Girls, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, Megas XLR, et al—together in a fantasy world invaded by some green goo.

That goo transforms the world's ordinary objects, such as tires and barrels, into mutated, less than scary monsters. You'll do the typical MMO whacking, whether it be with an oversized wrench or sword, or blasting with a poppy purple gun, taking out enemies to gain experience. From the hands-on time I spent with the game, it follows fairly standard MMO action conventions.

What sets the game apart are the nanos you can summon, super-deformed versions of characters like Mojo Jojo or Eduardo or Dexter. Each will give you special attack powers or physical abilities that will aid you in your quest, not unlike Phantasy Star Online's mags or other MMO-style pets.

The game also sports a sharp, clean, colorful graphical style that stands out in Western released MMOs. Textures look appropriately cartoony and every avatar shown at Comic Con looks like an anime-like tween. It's infectiously cute.

Fusion Fall is in alpha stage at this point and impossible to judge on its gameplay merits, but visually and conceptually it looks like a solid entry into the market. I signed up for the beta at Comic Con and hope to spend more time with it in the coming months.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force Zombie Ninja Pro-Am Official!]]> Meatwad, Master Shake and Frylock fans already know that the forthcoming Aqua Teen Hunger Force video game was unofficially announced for the PlayStation 2 in February, but Midway makes it a respectable product today by issuing the press release.

Fully titled Aqua Teen Hunger Force Zombie Ninja Pro-Am, the game is "epic, action-adventure combat golf, cart racing game" that will "set a new standard for crime-fighting, golf-obsessed, food battles." Lofty goals, Midway.

Still, any game that features ninja and zombies and golf is probably going to sell, and sell well, regardless of the license. Hell, the press release was even fun to read and I detest the written word. It's after the jump.

Cartoon Network has awarded D3Publisher of America the video game rights to the popular cartoon Ben 10, which features a young boy named Ben who discovers an alien device that allows him to transform into different alien heroes, each with their own unique form and powers. It's kind of like the old DC Dial H for Hero comic. Speaking of which, someone needs to secure those rights. Dial H would make an awesome game...just think of the downloadable community created content possibilities alone. Boggles the mind it does.

Anyway, Ben 10 has all the properties in place to make an excellent video game. A morphing hero that can adapt to many different situations, a Cthulu looking alien enemy complete with minions, a human nemesis named Kevin 11 who would be perfect for two-player competitive gameplay...the list goes on. Of course, as a licensed Cartoon Network children's property whichever developer the license ends up with will mangle it horribly, but a guy can dream.

<![CDATA[Cartoon Network Launching "East-Meets-West" MMO]]>

It's official: Everyone is working on a massively multiplayer online game. Cartoon Network just announced that they have partnered with Grigon Entertainment to put together a MMO that will be packed with the likes of Mac, Bloo, Ben 10 and the Kids Next Door.

While at first blush this sounds like a formula for instant crap, there are a couple of tidbits that have me thinking the game stands a chance. The game is going to be a free download, making money off of a yet-to-be-announced subscription and in-game micro transactions.

The press release also says that the game's theme will be built around a "East-meets-West" creative approach, which sounds very interesting, especially if they mean that we will be seeing western cartoon characters mingling with Anime.

The game is set to hit in spring 2008. Hit the jump for a bunch of time-wasting PR babble.
