I'd feel insincere if I said he held any huge place in my childhood, but of all the celebrities to die this year, Captain Lou is the first one to warrant a memorial drink for me.
Anyone care to join me as I raise my glass and do the mario?

If only I had known he was Mario from TV at the time...

Also, he should have been Mario in the film. No disrespect to Bob Hoskins, but Lou = Mario. Accept no substitutes.

I remember when I was five years old, they had a VHS tape of an episode of the show at the local video shop, "The Great Bike Race", and I thought it was just about the best God damn thing on the planet. We watched it many times. I actually think I liked the segments before and after better than the cartoon itself.
I remember one scene pretty vividly: As Mario peeled what was supposed to be one of many old pizzas laying around their apartment off of a ringing telephone, he said "I don't remember ordering a pizza with green mold..."
That was a line that always made me laugh, no matter how many times I saw it.
R.I.P. Capt. Lou.

;_;
Mario has been voiced by a number of people over the years, even by Optimus Prime at one point, but... Lou was always my favorite... I don't know why, maybe it's because I saw it during a very impressionable age, but it always struck as the best, most authentic voice for Mario. I remember when they brought in Charles Martinet, I had a hard time accepting him the longest time. I'm used to him now, but... In my mind and heart, when I think of Mario and Luigi saying something, it'll always be in the manner Lou and Danny Wells did them.
Rest in piece, Captian, we'll miss you. ;_;

RIP Captain. Glad I got to meet you and talk to you, even if it was only for a little while.

With that said, R.I.P. Captain Lou, many good memories and much respect.

I grew up watching him not only as Mario but just plain'ol Captain Lou in the WWF. I even use a brief clip from a 'Super Mario Melody' that ends with "Do the Mario" whenever I get an email.
He lead a good life and seemed proud of what he accomplished. That's all anyone can ask for at the end of the day.
