Super Show back in the late 80s, is now on Hulu for your trip down memory lane pleasure.

I feel kind of silly now, having bought the whole thing on DVD some years back. At the time I thought it would be a wonderful edition to my collection and that I'd get all the nostalgia mileage out of it that I did out of Jem and the Holograms on DVD.

Apparently, memory had blocked a few things out. Now, the DVD case just sits there covered in dust along with all the other DVDs in my collection I never watch anymore because they cause physical pain.

Thanks for the tip, Dan!

P.S. I didn't notice this as a kid, but what is up with Zelda's pants? It's like primordial camel toe.

P.P.S. My favorite Zelda cartoon episode is actually the crossover episode they did with Captain N. Now there's a box set I need to get.

<![CDATA[Super Mario Bros. 3 The Complete Series]]> If you've grown tired of watching your Captain N: The Game Master DVDs, more craptastic Nintendo-licensed animation is just a credit card authorization and a regrettable decision away. Shout! Factory has released another Nintendo nostalgic cartoon series to DVD, this time collecting the entirety of the awkwardly titled The Adventures Of Super Mario Bros 3 in a three disc set.

The Adventures Of Super Mario Bros 3 ran a brief 26 episodes (or 13 double episodes, if you prefer) and features a bizarre Milli Vanilli guest appearance in a journey outside of the Mushroom Kingdom. That appearance, sadly edited to remove Rob and Fab's hit "Blame It On The Rain" can be seen on YouTube if you don't feel like ponying up the $29.99 for the DVDs.

Thanks for the heads up, Derrick!

<![CDATA[The Custom Captain N Varsity Jacket]]> Reader Stephan, who's a bit of a Captain N cosplay snob (and I like that) just sent us pics of his custom made jacket that he says features "cartoon accurate coloring (solid white trim on the collar, solid red trim everywhere else)." Hardcore, man.

He's even got the Zapper out. And to the right? A Neo Geo arcade cabinet! It's pretty clear that Stephan does not fuck around when niche gaming is involved.

The only negatives here? Explaining to people who the hell Captain N is. And finding an Eggplant Wizard cosplay buddy. Pure hell. Regardless, thanks for the pics!

<![CDATA[Captain N Now On DVD]]> Wow. Has it really been nearly a year since we began pining for a Captain N collection on DVD? While that initial lust for awful 80's cartoons loosely based on NES properties from Capcom, Nintendo and Konami may have faded with time, we're happy to be reminded that Captain N: The Game Master - The Complete Series has finally been released on DVD.

Featuring all 26 episodes on a four disc set, Captain N from Shout! Factory can be yours for the low, low price of $24 from Amazon.

Videogame animation fans should note that Shout! Factory is having a limited time sale on their Super Mario Bros. Super Show! and Legend of Zelda Animated Series DVD sets. They should also watch for the upcoming release of the Sonic the Hedgehog complete series next month.

<![CDATA[Every Single Episode Of Captain N Ever]]>

Oh, I suppose you could spend a few hours searching YouTube for Captain N episodes, but wouldn't you rather have them all at your finger tips for maximum masochism? I'll admit it's been a while since I've subjected my eyes and ears to this Saturday morning parade of brand violations, but the liberties they take with classic Nintendo (and Konami and Capcom) characters are hilariously bad.

Thanks for the pointer, Blake.

<![CDATA[Captain N Coming To DVD?]]> Simon Belmont? Really? The NES era cartoon, featuring Kevin Keene, a normal teenager battling the evil Mother Brain (yes, from Metroid) in "Videoland", is finally coming to DVD. Finally! Now we can all rest easy and watch the intellectual property of a half-dozen franchises birthed on the NES bastardized in digital quality.

If you don't remember this show (I barely do), it featured a handful of beloved characters such as Simon Belmont (pictured) from Castlevania, Mega Man, Pit from Kid Icarus, and an anthropomorphic Gameboy battling Dr. Wily, the Eggplant Wizard, and even King Hippo. It was truly the best cartoon to ever feature a robot boy and a walking handheld console fighting an eggplant and a boxer.

The details crept up earlier this week on the Captain N forums.

I am the producer of the DVD line of DiC titles at Shout! Factory, beginning with the recent COPS: The Animated Series. For the past couple of days, I've been going around the net researching Captain N: The Game Master, because I will, in fact, be producing it for OFFICIAL release (so, PLEASE stop any and all bootlegging you may be working on) later in the year.

I'd like to clear up a few things that I've noticed posted here and a couple of other sites. For starters, Shout! isn't owned by Sony. Sony is our distributor, so for a small percentage, Sony stocks retailers with our product. Shout! Factory is owned by Richard Foos (the founder of Rhino), his brother Garson, and Bob Emmer.

Secondly, regarding Captain N's masters...

I'm dealing with DiC even as I write this and the masters are in excellent condition. There's virtually NO difference between a production master and a broadcast master when you're dealing with animation. The major difference is that a broadcast master has several minutes of black where the commercials should be. Therefore, the masters I'm working with look as good as any that were "destroyed" when Disney took over.

I'm actually in the process of putting together a list of possible special features. While the lists I receive from people are in no way guaranteed extras— because as people have mentioned, Captain N isn't a show on which most companies can spend a LARGE amount of money and expect a return—, I would very much like to hear what the fans are looking for.

If you're interested in throwing out suggestions, please do so here. Do not email me, as I'm working on far too many projects to look and answer a ton of emails from fans. But I assure you, as you can witness in other forums around the web, that I will check back and respond here OFTEN.

Thanks in advance and tell all your friends that the Captain's finally coming to DVD!

Don't take it as gospel, but I think we can at least squeeze out a little "Yay!" for this.
