They're probably still working on the PS3 version of the new engine. There production pipeline was designed to spit out PC, PS3, and 360 assets all at once. It's not like they said anything about ports.
Hell yeah, I cannot wait for this game! I'm happy to hear that it's a bit different from the original in some aspects. One thing I cannot stand is copycat sequels, and this definitely doesn't sound like it's one of them. And it shouldn't be the same because it's about someone different this time, that's in a different situation. While Frank West may have covered wars, he couldn't handle a gun worth a shit. Sounds like this guy can definitely handle a gun. Oh, and procedural slicing?! Awesome!!!!
If you're not developing the PS3 version simultaneously then don't bother Capcom. Shitty shitty ports are shitty so unless you plan on singing shitty shitty bang bang during the promotional period please refrain from making a shitty port. It just takes away the illusion.
@Black-Dog-Howls: Best case scenario for PS3 owners, Capcom will be able to focus more resources on the PS3 version after the 360 version has shipped along with the possibility for some bonus content for the wait (characters, levels, weapons, etc.).
@Shin-san: Personally I get annoyed at all shitty ports to any platform. Lost Planet on PS3 was exceptionally shitty. Capcom has a really bad port record except for DMC4 on PC and RE4 Wii.
Shitty shitty bang bang isn't an SDF term. It's been around since the PSX/N64/Dreamcast days for games ported from PC that are horrendously dumbed down. Plus, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
@SlashZaku: But you know they won't. As they will likely do what they did with the first Lost Planet, and reissue all the updates on the 360 simultaneously with the PS3 release. Remember, Lost Planet: Colonies?
sorry, not excited in the least bit. I don't care how many zombies they can fit on screen, L4D is a perfect example of Quality over quantity. I'm sure the AI is just as enthralling as the first game...slow moving, they all walk the same, and all you do the whole game is pick shit up and hit endless "idiot" AI. Wow, that's fun.
@MasterOmega: "slow moving, they all walk the same, and all you do the whole game is pick shit up and hit endless "idiot" AI."
... They're zombies. You can't expect them to pull off some Rainbow Six tactics. They shamble, they eat, they shamble again. This is the life of a zombie.
One day they may learn to love, they may even come together with humans and usher in a new age of peace and tranquility (not to mention unicorns), but until then... zombies are pretty much only capable of shambling and eating.
Kidding aside, I do agree that the novelty wore off quickly, but Capcom got a little lazy in the world design, which I think played a major part in that.
That opens up a whole world of possibilities. Fighting insects on a breaking pool of ice? Hopping from floating ice shelf to floating ice shelf? Seeing a little foliage, just to spice things up and add some color? That single idea ("thawing") was all it took to get me interested in this title.
@Sloopydrew: does one of those possibilities involve Crecente using spellcheck?
I believe there were some LP1 maps released that were jungle themed. Maybe LP2 will sort of catch climate change in the act with semi-melted environments.
"Maybe LP2 will sort of catch climate change in the act with semi-melted environments."
That's what I'm hoping for. I did notice a lot of that "jungle" @Kazzahdrane mentioned, but this thawing stuff makes me feel like those will be later levels. I think it would be awesome to watch a world thaw throughout the game -- frozen at the beginning and melting to pretty much nothing but foliage by the end.
"it would be awesome to watch a world thaw throughout the game -- frozen at the beginning and melting to pretty much nothing but foliage by the end.
And Crecente's impressions of the game just knocked that idea all to shit. Oh well. It could still be a great game. But I still like the idea of starting in a frozen world that you watch thaw throughout. Maybe Capcom can use the idea for LP3, featuring a different, frozen, planet that has been lost.
Do not like vehicles being a "much bigger" part of the game. Same goes for the guns. He does say it's your choice how you play, but if this follows the formula of the first, the vehicles will be mandatory and if there are many more of them there will be many more mandatory moments of vehicular zombiecide.
I have a feeling this is going to be a dumbed-down gore-fest. The first may have appeared to be the same thing, but there was something more there. Alongside unique gameplay, that heart Crecente spoke of (not to mention humor) worked on a whole lot of levels. I'm not sure Blue Castle quite gets what made the first one such a success.
Jesus, you haven't even SEEN the freaking game yet with your own eyes and you're already shitting on it. It sounds like you basically want Dead Rising 1 again. You realize that there was 2 parts to Dead Rising, killing zombies and rescuing survivors? If you want that same experience, play Dead Rising again.
Me, I'll gladly take a different experience this time around.
@Sloopydrew: I dunno, the trailer convinced me otherwise. I think Blue Castle knows that Dead Rising was more about lulz and "what the hell? REALLY? A Servbot mask? YES!" than zombies.
Of course, as long as all the interesting spots aren't in one area, I'll be happy. That's what pissed me off about DR1. There's the awesome demo area... and the incredibly bland remainder.
Take a deep breath, d_r_e. Not everyone is going to be screaming "joy" at more guns and more cars. Who knows? Maybe the game will be incredible and every bit as fun as the first. Or maybe it will be a lackluster rehash that's too busy focusing on how many zombies can fit on a screen than on why 7000 zombies adds more to the experience than say, 1000. I don't want "Dead Rising" again. I want a sequel to Dead Rising with the quality of the original. And I have seen some of the gameplay -- even some described above -- it's in the trailer.
"There's the awesome demo area... and the incredibly bland remainder."
/facepalm
Did you make it to the grocery store? The hardware store? The tunnel of zombies? The playground with chainsaw clown? The demo area wasn't even one of the top 5 most interesting areas of the game.
@Sloopydrew: Indeed I did. And yet, despite this, opinion still =/= fact. I found the other areas to be a letdown after the demo. (And I despise the zombie tunnel. It's impressive, but oh so annoying.) I loved Dead Rising, but little dribbles of awesomeness like the hardware store and playground just couldn't hold up to that sheer awe I felt when going around the opening plaza.
I'll try to tag all of my posts with [/opinion] from now on. Unless, of course, you already knew that I was merely stating opinion, in which case: feel free to send me a list of the opinions I'm allowed to have from now on. I wouldn't want to step on any toes by forming my own, y'know. Next thing you know, I might end up disliking a well-received game. That just wouldn't do.
7000 not 6000?! Holy freaking hell. If this ever comes to PC you would need something more then needed to play Crysis perfectly. If bodies didn't disappear then you would be playing around through mountains. Over there is large bulbous zombie mountain next to supreme skinny zombie mountain! We should find an exit up top after getting through all the mountain right?
@mitch_93: Just imagine how fucking far away the screen will have to be too see 1/3 of those zombies! It'll look like an RTS!! but with even more enemies on screen.
@Antiterra: i dont think anybody who normally plays on the wii wants a sequel to anything. as long as they can play wii fit, and a few other games (forever) then they'll be the happiest campers. and for the people who did play the last DeadRising wii game, they probably wont want a sequel either.
I'll play this if it doesn't have timed levels. Nothing turns me off a game faster than having to do something because of a time limit. I simply can't enjoy those types of games.
Well, this one won't be for you ... because apparently it has a 72 hour feature as well. It's a shame you won't play it because of that. It's practically impossible to do everything in the 72 hours, that's why you have to manage your time just right ... and then once you beat the game, it's a beat easier the second time around.
Majora's Mask was most amazing, and you didn't notice the time aspect near as much as in Dead Rising. That's because you could still do what you wanted and the clock would reset itself. In Dead Rising, the end of 72 hours means end of game. Not so with MM.
Why do the bodies need to disappear? I could understand if they were adding more to the scene, but there has to be some kind of middleground. It's not like you'll really be able to count to make sure they're displaying the max zombies possible.. just dont introduce more until after a longer time period (say 30 seconds). Even that might be more than enough, I doubt a corpse in this game will attract someone's attention for more than 30 seconds.. (besides, of course, the 1000's corpses trying to eat you).

I think its interesting when you take something like that and make a gameplay mechanic of it.
As it stands, I never played the first Lost Planet. :/ Is that wrong?
EDIT: I meant to respond to this thread.

If anything's wrong, it's playing it on the PS3, considering the awful port it got.
